Why this matters to you: Firmness decides whether your spine stays straight. Too firm, and your shoulders and hips ache. Too soft, and your middle sags. Heavier people sink more, so they need a firmer bed than lighter people.

Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.

Compare the mattresses
Why this matters to you: The build decides the feel. Coils bounce and sleep cool, foam hugs and keeps still, latex floats, and air lets each side pick. Choose the build first, then the model.
Nine adult beds share the Saatva name, and they feel very different. The table lines up build, height, feel and Queen price.
For most shoppers the choice comes down to three beds. The Classic ($2,229) is the bouncy, cool pick. The Memory Foam Hybrid ($2,149) costs less and hugs more. The Contour5 ($3,179) keeps the bed still for couples.

How well do the mattresses hold up?
Why this matters to you: Beds soften with use, and brands change parts over time. The warranty terms tell you what the maker will stand behind.
Saatva gives no lifespan for most models, and says ten to 15 years for a few. The warranty covers a dip deeper than 1.5 in.
Latex and steel coils usually hold up better than cheap foam. Latex resists dents, which is why the latex models need no rotating. On the other beds, rotate head to foot at six months, then once a year.
What to watch for, and when:
First months: the pillow top settles a little as it shapes to you. That is normal, not a defect.
Six months, then yearly: turn the bed head to foot so it wears evenly (not the latex models, HD or Solaire).
Any time: a deep dip with nobody on the bed is a warranty claim; the warranty chapter has the rule.

What the $99 pays for: a crew collects the bed from your home, so you do not have to get rid of it.
Swapping for another feel: an exchange costs $99, and Saatva builds the new bed for you. The trial page does not say whether a new trial starts, so ask before you swap.

Chapter 07
Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal
Why this matters to you: Saatva beds ship flat, not rolled in a box, and a Queen can weigh up to 135 lbs. The crew carries it in and sets it up, so you never lift it.
Every mattress comes with free White Glove delivery. Plan for 9 to 21 days, because each bed is built after you order.
Setup and old-bed removal are free; ask for removal at checkout. Alaska and Hawaii need a freight forwarder, arranged by phone.

What do the warranties cover?
Why this matters to you: A lifetime warranty sounds unlimited, but the terms change after year two. A claim also needs a dip deeper than 1.5 in and a proper base.
Warranty fights usually come down to how deep the sag is and what the bed sat on. Learn both rules now.
Sag rule: deeper than 1.5 in, measured with nobody on the bed.
Base rule: slats less than 4 inches apart, with center support on a Queen or larger.
After year two: repairs cost $149.
Years one and two: Saatva replaces a faulty bed at no cost. From year three: it repairs and re-covers the bed for a $149 fee. The Solaire has its own terms: free repairs for the first three years, then you pay part of the parts cost.
How they measure a sag: lay a straight edge across the widest part of the dip and measure the gap. A dip deeper than 1.5 in is covered.
A new bed instead of a repair: from year three, Saatva offers a replacement at a share of the price you paid, and the share rises with age.

Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.

What are the mattresses made of?
Why this matters to you: What is inside decides how the bed feels, how hot it sleeps, and how long it lasts. It also tells you which fire barrier sits under the cover.
Saatva builds with steel coils, latex, memory foam or air. The table shows what each model uses, and the glossary explains each material in plain words.
The Classic stacks two layers of coils: wrapped comfort coils over a firmer base. The latex models use natural Talalay latex over coils or on their own. The memory foam beds use heavy 4-lb and 5-lb foams. Saatva says it uses no fiberglass; the fire barrier is thistle, wool, cellulose or a rayon blend, depending on the model.

How heavy is a Saatva Queen?
Heavy enough to need two people. A Queen weighs 70 lbs (Memory Foam Hybrid) to 135 lbs (HD). That is one reason Saatva sets it up for you.
Are Saatva store staff paid on commission?
No, the brand says. Saatva says its phone and store staff earn no commission, so they have no reason to push a pricier bed.
What sheets fit a Saatva mattress?
Check the pocket depth. Most Saatva beds are ten to 13 inches tall, but the 14.5 in Classic, the Rx (15 in) and the HD (15.5 in) need deep pockets of 16 inches or more.
Buying and policies
Do I need to flip or rotate a Saatva mattress?
Rotate most models, but never flip them. Saatva says to turn the bed head to foot at six months, then once a year. The Zenhaven, Latex Hybrid, HD and Solaire do not need rotating.
Does Saatva give discounts to teachers, nurses or the military?
Yes. Saatva takes $225 off orders of $1,000 or more for military, veterans, first responders, government workers, nurses, teachers, seniors and students. You verify with ID.me at checkout.
Can I pay with an HSA or FSA card?
Not at checkout. Saatva says you may qualify to use HSA or FSA funds through its partner Truemed, which it says can save about 30%.
Why is there a recycling fee at checkout?
State law. California, Connecticut and Rhode Island charge a small fee on each mattress, foundation and adjustable base to fund mattress recycling.
