The best mattress stores in and near Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Updated October 18, 2026 · 12 stores, each checked against its own website

The best mattress stores in and near Chapel Hill are Ashley Durham (Fayetteville Rd), Mattress Firm Durham (Watkins Road) and Green Dream Beds. We rank stores by how many mattress brands you can try in person, then by how many of their delivery, old-bed removal and return policies they post, counting one location per chain. We checked 12 stores within 8 miles of central Chapel Hill, and no store pays to be listed.

  1. Ashley Durham (Fayetteville Rd): 6 brands to try, including Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster and Purple. Durham, 5.8 mi, open Sunday; old-bed removal offered, publishes a return policy.
  2. Mattress Firm Durham (Watkins Road): 5 brands to try, including Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster and Sealy. Durham, 3.1 mi, open Sunday; old-bed removal offered, publishes a return policy.
  3. Green Dream Beds: 4 brands to try, including SavvyRest, Suite Sleep and Ergovea. Durham, 6 mi; publishes a return policy.

A few minutes on a showroom bed will not tell you how it feels after a month at home. Pick a bed you trust from a store whose exchange and return policy you can live with: 8 of the 12 stores here post a policy that lets you return a bed, so read the fees and time limits before you buy.
