Transfer Master Mattress Review

Transfer Master isn't a general mattress brand. It's a hi-lo hospital bed maker, founded in 1993 in Postville, Iowa, and owned by GF Health Products (Graham-Field) since April 2024. Its mattresses are 6 to 7 inch medical foam surfaces. They're built for its Supernal adjustable hospital beds and most other adjustable bases. You'll find the Ascent (firm laminated foam, $799) and Soft Touch memory foam ($885). It also resells PressureGuard pressure-relief mattresses and the Geo-Mattress Atlas bariatric upgrade.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

For firm, structured support and easy transfers, such as for a bedridden or post-surgery user, choose the Ascent. For plush contouring with heat release, pick Soft Touch. The brand says it suits side and stomach sleepers because it shapes to the body.

If you need pressure-ulcer prevention or round-the-clock bed rest, look at a PressureGuard model. Easy Air and APM2 are powered. Span-Care Convertible works unpowered if there's no outlet. If you weigh over 500 lb, you need the Geo-Mattress Atlas. It's the only mattress option for the Night Rider HD and Companion HD bariatric frames. Transfer Master says standard mattresses aren't recommended for HD or bariatric beds. It also says you don't need a topper on the Ascent.

Mattress prices and value

These are factory-direct base prices from September 2026. Ascent is $799 and Soft Touch is $885. PressureGuard Span-Care Convertible is $2,534, APM2 is $2,737 and Easy Air is $7,706. Geo-Mattress Atlas is $1,160. White glove delivery is a separate one-time fee you add at checkout. Dealer MedShop Direct lists the Ascent at $798.60 to $1,597.20, depending on size and cover. Adaptive Specialties advertises free shipping on the Supernal Ascent mattress.

Per inch of foam, this is expensive next to consumer mattresses. You're paying for transfer-safe edges, fluid-proof covers, federal flammability compliance, 500 lb capacity (750 lb for the Atlas) and hi-low bed fit. The brand doesn't publish financing, bundle discounts or mattress-only promotions (checked September 2026). A Request a Quote page exists for facilities and dealers.

What are the mattresses made of?

Ascent uses progressive laminated foams. The layers get firmer so the surface supports you more as you settle in. The top layer resists shearing, and extra-firm foam on both borders stops slipping. It's 6 inches tall. Soft Touch has a cool memory foam core over supportive foam, with a 2.5-inch open-cell memory top per a dealer spec. It's 7 inches tall with the same firm borders.

Both mattresses come with one of two covers. One is a Natural Bamboo Quilted Cover with Joma wool filling, described as anti-bacterial, deodorizing and breathable. The other is a waterproof Stretch Fabric Cover that cleans with household cleaners and is approved for FDA-grade cleaners. Zippers make replacement easy. Cores are made in an FDA-approved facility. They're designed and engineered in the USA, meet federal fire protection laws and need no flipping.

PressureGuard models pair a foam shell with air. They have a Geo-Matt top with 800 cells in head, torso and foot zones, a Heel Slope, a Safety Edge and antimicrobial fluid-proof covers. Atlas has a 2-inch Geo-Matt topper, three foam layers, an air layer and a fluid-proof cover. The brand doesn't publish CertiPUR-US, GOTS or GREENGUARD certifications, foam densities or ILD numbers (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The brand says you don't flip the mattress. You should rotate it head to foot four times a year, or monthly for better results. Keep the head, back and leg sections flat when not in use. Spray the pivot points with silicone every 4 to 6 months. It also says a good memory foam mattress can last ten years or more because it doesn't sag like springs. Standard mattresses hold up to 500 lb, and the Atlas is built for 750 lb.

Independent evidence is thin. There's no published durability, sag, pressure-mapping or foam-wear test data (checked September 2026). The dealer-stated warranty is 1 year on the cover and 5 years on the core. That's shorter than the 10 to 15 years typical of consumer memory foam beds. It matters if you expect a decade of nightly use at home.

Customer reviews and complaints

The brand's testimonials page claims hundreds of 5-star reviews and more than 20,000 well-rested customers. Roland says the Ascent is comfortable. Denise F. credits the strong edges for transfers. Independent checks are sparse. The BBB profile for Transfer Master Products in Postville, IA shows an A+ rating and 33 years in business. It isn't BBB accredited, and it lists 0 customer reviews and 0 complaints. Trustpilot's profile is unclaimed with 0 reviews and a 0.0 score. Beds.org and MedShop Direct show no Ascent reviews.

SpinLife's Supernal 3 Hi-Low bed page has 4.8 out of 5 from 14 reviews, with 100% recommending it. One owner found the Queen Ascent bamboo firm mattress a little too firm at 90 lb. Another said it slides and suggested a pad. The recurring friction point is the sales terms: final sale on mattresses, a one-day return window on bed frames and a 25% restocking fee.

Where can you try and buy?

You can buy factory-direct at transfermaster.com and shop.transfermaster.com. You can also call 678-291-3190, 7am to 5pm EST, Monday to Friday, or email transfermaster@grahamfield.com. To try one in person, the Find a Showroom map lists independent dealers. Dealers include Access to Independence (Ravenna OH) and BEK Medical (Dallas and El Paso TX). You'll also see Ben's Furniture (Greeley CO) and Freedom Mobility (Hanover MD and Ashburn VA). More are Gulfshore Apothecary (Naples FL) and Hartland Medical (Crystal Lake and Naperville IL). The rest are HomePro Medical (Brooklyn NY), Kohll's RX (Iowa and Nebraska) and McCanns Medical Supply (Portland OR metro).

Online dealers include SpinLife, MedShop Direct, Adaptive Specialties, NewLeaf Home Medical, Synergy Health and Express Hospital Beds. Products ship to Canada through authorized dealers. The brand doesn't list Amazon, Wayfair or mass-market retail (checked September 2026).

Delivery, setup and removal

White Glove Delivery is a one-time fee you add at checkout. It isn't in the price shown. SpinLife's white glove option includes bed setup and removal of all wrapping and packaging. But the mattress and side rails may ship separately and may not be covered. NewLeaf Home Medical ships free with first threshold delivery in the contiguous US. It builds in about 3 business days and transits in 2 to 5 business days. Optional delivery and setup add 3 to 7 business days. Alaska and Hawaii cost extra, and elevator access can add fees.

MedShop Direct quotes standard shipping at 6 to 10 business days. White glove delivery with in-home setup takes 12 to 16 business days. The brand doesn't publish old-mattress removal (checked September 2026). Only packaging removal is specified.

Sleep trial and returns

There's no published sleep trial (checked September 2026). Official policy makes products and parts final sale, and mattresses aren't returnable. A bed frame alone can be returned within one day of delivery with a Return Merchandise Authorization. It must be new and unused in original packaging with all documents. You arrange return shipping and pay a 25% restocking fee. Refunds take up to 30 days after inspection. Rejected returns may be destroyed or shipped back at your expense.

Dealers differ. NewLeaf Home Medical allows a mattress exchange for another type within 30 days, with shipping fees and the item in new condition. MedShop Direct needs an RMA within 7 calendar days of receipt and refuses opened, installed, used or custom items. SpinLife says mattresses are non-returnable. The brand doesn't publish comfort guarantees or fee waivers.

Warranty

The official site doesn't publish mattress warranty terms. Its Shipping and Returns page says only that products are covered per the documentation that comes with them. The warranty page shows no policy content (checked September 2026). Dealer NewLeaf Home Medical lists 1 year on the cover and 5 years on the mattress core for both the Ascent and Soft Touch. It also lists a 1-year limited warranty on the Companion bed.

Beds.org says the Ascent I shares the Supernal beds' 1-year limited warranty. It isn't transferable and is void if the product is abused or not kept sanitary. The official bariatric page says the Geo-Mattress Atlas includes a 3-year warranty. The brand doesn't publish labor coverage, prorated schedules or transfer terms. Confirm them in writing with the seller or at transfermaster@grahamfield.com.

Transfer Master vs. other brands

Against clinical suppliers such as Drive DeVilbiss, Invacare and Medline, Transfer Master does the same job. That's thin, edge-supported, fluid-proof, transfer-friendly surfaces. It brings US manufacturing, hi-low bed expertise and nationwide dealer support. But it's a bed maker first. It resells Span America PressureGuard and Geo-Mattress Atlas rather than making every surface.

Against Tempur-Pedic, Sleep Number, Saatva and Avocado, it isn't a fair comparison. You get 6 to 7 inch medical mattresses with no sleep trial, no comfort exchange, no plush or cooling retail tiers and no showroom tryout. If you want a standard bedroom mattress, shop those brands. Bases from Leggett & Platt, Ergomotion and Reverie can't do full hi-low height adjustment. That's what Transfer Master beds and mattresses are built around.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
