Yankee Mattress Review
Yankee Mattress Company is an employee-owned, factory-direct maker in Agawam, Massachusetts. It handcrafts made-to-order beds in three collections, Silver, Gold and Black, from $449 to $4,798. You'll mainly buy through three Western Massachusetts showrooms. You get free local delivery, US-sourced materials, CertiPUR-US foams and natural latex. Which mattress suits your sleep needs?
If you sleep on your side or want a cloud-like feel, look at Nantucket in latex or Westerly in memory foam. Back and combination sleepers should try York, Newport or Florence in medium. Stomach sleepers, heavier sleepers and firm-preferring couples should look at Fairhaven, Chatham or Conway. If you want extra firm or need an easy exit from bed, try Brunswick, Revere, Rockland or Manchester.
Couples who disturb each other should look at the Gold Collection, chosen for motion isolation. Kids' rooms, guest rooms and first apartments suit the Silver Collection. If you sleep hot or wake with aches, the Black Collection latex models breathe and relieve pressure. Every model except Rockland works with adjustable bases. If you want the lowest profile, choose Newport, Chatham, Revere, Manchester or another 12-inch-or-below model.

What are the mattresses made of?
These are handcrafted, single-sided hybrids made to order in Agawam, MA with US-sourced components. Silver uses CertiPUR-US certified upholstery foams, responsive pocketed coils and a quilted or stretch-knit cover. Gold uses CertiPUR-US foams, including gel memory foam and high-density firm foam. It has pocketed coil systems such as Quantum Edge, per the FAQ, plus center and edge micro coils. Rockland uses a traditional rigid innerspring instead.
Black uses FSC and Rainforest Alliance certified natural latex in Nantucket, Fairhaven and Brunswick. York uses high-density gel memory foam. Both sit over pocketed or combi coils with a nano coil layer and edge micro coils, under a thick breathable cover.
Across the range, all foams are CertiPUR-US certified. They contain no ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde or phthalates. There's no fiberglass and no spray-on chemicals, because a felt-like rayon barrier meets federal flammability standards. You won't find pillow-tops or sewn-on handles. Handmade goods can vary up to 1 inch in size.
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Warranties are your main assurance. They're non-prorated, at 10 years for Silver, 12 for Gold and 15 for Black. The official term is printed on the law tag. The brand points to high-density foams, natural latex and reinforced coil systems with nano and micro coils as long-life parts. It says softening and body impressions up to 1.5 inches are normal wear, not defects.
Coverage depends on your care. Rotate the mattress 180 degrees every 1 to 2 months. Use a supported foundation or slats no more than 3 inches apart, and add a waterproof protector. Otherwise a claim can be refused. The brand doesn't publish independent long-term durability testing, lifespan data or third-party lab results (checked September 2026).
Customer reviews and complaints
Yankee publishes named testimonials. They praise knowledgeable, no-pressure staff, made-to-order freshness, smooth delivery and the comfort-adjustment warranty. Names include Steven U., Cameron T., Robbin P., Dana D., David M., Dan and Sue G., Bonnie D., Devin D., Gary J. and Joe M. The company says it won Best Local Mattress Store in the Readers Raves and Readers Choice awards from 2013 to 2025. It also cites the Advocate Best of the Valley readers poll from 2010 to 2025.
The brand doesn't publish independent star ratings or formal complaint data from Google, Yelp, BBB or Reddit (checked September 2026). The most likely complaint trigger is structural, not product quality. You can't return or get a refund on a used mattress. You must bring the bed back to the Agawam workshop for a free comfort adjustment, or pay transport if you can't.
Where can you try and buy?
You can try and buy at three company showrooms in Western Massachusetts. Agawam is at 314 Springfield Street, (413) 786-0999. Northampton is at 316 King Street, (413) 584-5858. Greenfield is at 70 Mohawk Trail, (413) 325-8845. All are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can book through Calendly.
You can also buy at yankeemattress.com or by phone. A mattress quiz helps narrow the collection. Every showroom displays material samples, so you can see foam, latex and coil layers before you buy. Select floor models are 25% off and sold first come, first served through any showroom.
Delivery, setup and removal
Every mattress is handcrafted to order, usually in 1 to 2 weeks. Yankee's own truck and crew deliver and set it up. Delivery and setup are free within 20 miles of any showroom if your order includes a mattress or adjustable base. It's $79.95 if the order includes neither. The 21 to 40 mile zone is a $99 flat rate. Beyond that, it's quoted case by case, and the page cites both 40-plus and 60-plus miles.
Shipping outside the delivery zone is a $249 flat rate anywhere in the continental US. Only Westfield, Florence, Conway, Manchester, Westerly, Newport, Chatham, Revere, York and Brunswick can ship. Rockland, Nantucket and Fairhaven can't. Old mattress or box spring removal and recycling costs $40 per piece and happens at delivery. You can ask for a call ahead when the truck is on its way.
Sleep trial and returns
There's no traditional sleep trial. You can't get a refund on a used mattress. Once a mattress or box spring enters your home, you can't return it. The brand offers a comfort adjustment instead, for environmental reasons. The free 100-Night Comfort Adjustment is one-time. You can use it after sleeping on the bed at least 14 nights. It adds or removes upholstery to make the bed slightly firmer or softer. It's refused on stained or soiled beds.
You deliver the mattress to the Agawam workshop, or pay a reduced, non-negotiable round-trip transport fee. Plan on about two nights without it. From night 101, a one-time Lifetime Comfort Adjustment runs for the length of the warranty, for a fee.
Non-mattress items can be returned within 7 days in new, undamaged original packaging. That excludes adjustable beds, toppers and wood bedding. A box spring or foundation height or size change within 7 days costs $49.95 handling plus normal re-delivery. Special or odd sizes need a 50% deposit and are final. Floor samples and close-outs are final. Layaways need 20% down and lose 10% restocking if unpaid by day 60. Returned checks cost $25.
Warranty
The limited warranties are non-prorated, so they never lose value. You get 10 years on Silver, 12 on Gold and 15 on Black. They run from the purchase date and are printed on the white law tag. On mattresses, it covers body impressions deeper than 1.5 inches, measured straight-edge away from stitching, or up to 2 inches on pillow-top styles. It also covers coils or wires poking through the fabric and separation of the binding tape.
On foundations, it covers broken or split wood frames, broken or loose metal supports and compression over 1.5 inches. It also covers non-frame-related squeaks or rattles and fabric separation. It excludes normal impressions up to 1.5 inches and the fabric cover in any way. Merchandise sold as-is or distressed, missing law tags and stained, soiled or burned beds are out. So are mattresses on an unsupportive non-Yankee foundation or frame, and comfort preference.
Support rules apply: one center leg for queen and two for king. You need the original receipt. Coverage isn't transferable. The company decides repair versus replacement. You pay transport, and the term isn't extended.
Yankee Mattress vs. other brands
Yankee is a small, employee-owned, factory-direct maker. You compare it against national brands and online bed-in-a-box names. Its strengths are handcrafting in Agawam, MA, US-sourced materials, natural latex and CertiPUR-US foams. You can see full material samples. There's no fiberglass or spray-on flame chemicals. You get free local delivery with setup, $40 old-bed removal and no retail markups. Its beds also appear in MGM Springfield high-roller suites, Hotel UMass and D Hotel Suites and Spa.
Its weaknesses are only three showrooms, all in Western Massachusetts, and no nationwide retail network. There are no returns or sleep-trial refunds. Shipping is a $249 flat rate, and three models can't ship. There's no public third-party rating. Choose Yankee for regional service and handcrafted hybrid value. Choose a national or online brand if you need nationwide logistics, a money-back trial or adjustable-base compatibility across every model.
