Southern Lady Mattress Review

Southern Lady is the house line of Weil's Mattress Co. (Weils Sleep Products). It's a fourth-generation Charleston family factory that also builds Charleston Mattress products. You can buy it at the Charleston Mattress Park Circle store and at charlestonmattress.com. Two models start from $840 and both are flippable. You get a 10-year warranty and 14-night returns. It's best if you live in the Lowcountry and want a locally built bed. The biggest caveat is that there's no standalone brand site, so pricing, trial and reviews all run through Charleston Mattress.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you sleep on your side, the Harbor Latex 11 inch with resilient Dunlop latex comfort is the closest fit for pressure relief. The brand doesn't publish firmness ratings or weight guidance, so confirm in store. Back sleepers who want firm, foam-encased innerspring support should look at the Beaufain Firm. If you want contouring, compare it with the Harbor.

Stomach sleepers get the Beaufain Firm and Ultra Firm as the firmest options. If you're heavier, confirm support with store staff, since thickness-by-weight guidance isn't published. Hot sleepers get the Harbor's breathable latex plus bamboo cover. No cooling test data is published. Flippable two-sided builds extend usable life for heavier sleepers. The brand doesn't publish specific weight limits (checked September 2026).

Mattress prices and value

Starting prices on charlestonmattress.com are $840.00 for the Beaufain Firm 13 inch and $1,565.00 for the Harbor Latex 11 inch (mattress only). Each comes with an optional made-to-order boxspring or foundation in 2-, 4-, 6- or 9-inch heights. Add-ons include CleanRest Pro encasement ($95.00) and a bed frame ($75.00). The brand doesn't publish per-size (Twin, Full, Queen, King) prices (checked September 2026).

Starting prices are clear, materials are US-sourced, and the build is flippable and two-sided with a 10-year warranty. That compares well against single-sided online rivals at similar prices. But we can't fully verify value without per-size pricing. Distant buyers face freight of $500 to $2,000, while local delivery is $75 in three SC counties.

What are the mattresses made of?

The Beaufain Firm pairs a high coil-count spring unit with foam-encased edge support, high-density filling and quilted natural bamboo ticking. It's a flippable two-sided 13-inch build. The Harbor Latex is an 11-inch flippable build made with the Dunlop latex process and a soft natural bamboo cover. The brand doesn't publish coil gauge or counts, foam densities, latex blend percentages or layer thicknesses.

Charleston Mattress lists shared material sources. Leggett and Platt coils come from St. Louis, Missouri, with up to 95% recycled steel. Carpenter Renew foam comes from Richmond, Virginia. Future Foam Harvest soy-based foam comes from High Point, North Carolina. Mountain Top natural latex comes from Pennsylvania, and Culp quilted covers from High Point, North Carolina. The brand says foams are CertiPUR-US certified and covers meet STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX. It doesn't publish GOTS, GOLS or Greenguard (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Both models are flippable and two-sided for extended life, and product pages advertise a 10-year warranty. The warranty page covers defects in manufacturing, workmanship or material on sleep sets bought together. It also covers a mattress with an adjustable bed, platform or waterbed cavity. The maker chooses repair or replacement. Exclusions include the fabric cover, abuse, missing center support, a mattress without its matching foundation, and normal MiraFiber quilting settling. Unsanitary condition, chemicals and solvents, and body impressions under 1.5 inches are excluded too. You pay transport costs.

Rotate regularly and use a proper foundation with center support for Queen and King. The brand doesn't publish independent durability testing (checked September 2026). The factory history comes from the brand. The Weil family has made mattresses in Charleston since 1914, in a 68,000 sq ft North Charleston plant, with commercial hotel work plus home sales since 2011.

Customer reviews and complaints

Judge.me review widgets are installed on product pages but show no published reviews (Be the first to write a review) as of September 2026. The brand doesn't publish third-party ratings from Google, BBB, Yelp, Sleep Foundation or RTINGS. We found no complaint themes.

The About page says word-of-mouth is the most common referral source and claims a returns rate under 1%. That comes from the brand. Southern Lady sells through a single local showroom and its host site, so feedback is thin and mostly offline. Ask in store for references before you buy.

Where can you try and buy?

You can try and buy at the single Charleston Mattress showroom at 1078 East Montague Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405 (Park Circle). It's open for walk-ins Saturdays 11:00am to 5:00pm, weekdays by appointment, and closed Sundays. You can also buy online at charlestonmattress.com. The phone and text line is 843-303-2478. The brand doesn't publish other dealers, showrooms or phone-order-only channels.

Southern Lady is the house line of Weil's Mattress Co., Inc. / Weils Sleep Products. It's the same fourth-generation family factory (Ritchie Weil) on Piggly Wiggly Drive in North Charleston that makes Charleston Mattress products. The Park Circle store is separately family owned by Liz and K.C. Rennie. There's no standalone Southern Lady site, and all ecommerce runs on charlestonmattress.com.

Delivery, setup and removal

Local delivery, in-home setup and haul-away cover Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester Counties (SC) for $75. BedShred mattress recycling and haul-away costs $20 per piece. Built-to-order standard sizes deliver in 3 to 4 business days, and next-business-day rush is possible for a fee. Special orders and custom sizes take up to 6 weeks. Store pickup is free, but staff can't load or secure items to your vehicle.

For long distance, truck delivery is quoted across the Carolinas and Georgia. Nationwide freight is typically $500 to $2,000, depending on destination. Queen and King need a proper foundation or frame with center support. Made-to-order boxsprings come in 2-, 4-, 6- and 9-inch heights. Affirm financing (0% to 36% APR) is offered at checkout.

Sleep trial and returns

You can make comfort returns within the first 14 nights at home. The brand strongly encourages trying beds in person first. Local returns (Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley Counties) cost a $175 pick-up and return fee. The mattress must be in like-new condition, and you get a refund of the original price. Returned mattresses are never resold as new.

Shipped returns outside the local area mean you pay shipping, plus a $175 return fee. The return policy page says $400 to $650. Product pages cite freight of $500 to $2,000. The same like-new rule applies. Custom sizes are final sale with no returns, and exchange is at store discretion. The brand doesn't publish an extended sleep trial or free-return option (checked September 2026).

Warranty

Product pages show a 10-year warranty (10-Year Warranty for Peace of Mind). It covers failure of the mattress or foundation from defects in manufacturing, workmanship or material, on sleep sets bought together, for the original buyer. It also applies with an adjustable bed, platform bed or waterbed cavity.

It excludes the fabric cover, abuse, Queen sets without proper center leg support, and King sets without a head-to-foot center bar and legs. It also excludes a mattress bought without its matching foundation and normal MiraFiber quilting settling. Unsanitary mattresses, damage from cleaning chemicals or solvents, and body impressions under 1.5 inches are excluded too. The maker repairs or replaces free of charge, with a comparable substitute if the model is discontinued. You pay transport and delivery charges and must show the warranty form with proof of purchase. The brand doesn't publish a sag threshold, transferability or prorating details (checked September 2026).

Southern Lady vs. other brands

Against Big Fig or WinkBed Plus, Southern Lady wins on locally built flippable two-sided construction and in-store try-before-you-buy. The national brands win on published coil counts, per-size pricing, long trials and national reviews. Against Avocado or PlushBeds, the Harbor wins on local build, flippable latex and a lower starting price ($1,565). The nationals win on GOTS and GOLS organic certification, published latex specs and long trials.

Against Casper or Leesa, Southern Lady wins on two-sided longevity and local setup and haul-away. Online brands win on long free trials, published specs and nationwide free shipping. Against regional factory-direct peers such as Original Mattress Factory, Southern Lady wins on Lowcountry local delivery and the Dunlop latex option. Peers win on multi-store footprints and deeper published review histories.
