MattressGrove Mattress Review

MattressGrove is a family-owned Greensboro, North Carolina workshop run by owners John and David. It hand-builds made-to-order mattresses. Its Simply Luxe Artisan hybrids and the Spring Air Back Supporter Royale focus on cooling foams, zoned coils and low motion transfer. White-glove delivery covers many eastern US regions. You'll pay premium prices, from $1,799. You get a 180-day comfort guarantee, but you'll pay a $199 fee to return a bed. It isn't a fit if you want a bed in a box or live outside the eastern delivery area.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

This is premium handcrafted made-to-order pricing, above budget bed-in-a-box. You're paying for cooling materials, zoned coils, hand-tufting and included white-glove service in many eastern regions, not for a low price.

What are the mattresses made of?

The Artisan line has a designer four-way stretch knit cover with natural silk and wool fibers for breathability. Inside are gel-infused cooling cushion foam, Tranquility Cool Gel memory foam, Aero-cushion and cushion foams, and firm support foam by model. The MaxLife foam-encased, individually wrapped, heavy-gauge coil system sits on a firm foam base with a foam-encased perimeter. It's hand-tufted with handles and an embroidered border. The Plush adds navy edge tape and a foot emblem. Heights are 14 inches for the Plush and Ultra Firm and 15 inches for the Super Pillow Top.

The Royale line has 670-plus alternating dual-gauge coils, zoned with extra middle-third support. The Cruz Firm build uses 672 coils. It has a foam-encased wireless edge, high-density soy-based foams and a Cool Gel lumbar zone. The All-Seasons side is silk on one side and wool on the other. It also has firm support plus zoned memory foam layers and a zone extended-life foundation. The brand doesn't publish certifications (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The brand points to hand-tufting to reduce impressions, foam-encased perimeters, heavy-gauge non-roll pocketed coils, soy-based high-density foams and extended-life foundations. It claims durable comfort for years and support for all body types. Care rules: rotate monthly, keep your support sound and aired, use a protector and keep the law tag attached.

The brand doesn't publish independent long-term durability testing or sag-rate data (checked September 2026).

Customer reviews and complaints

The official site's testimonials are all positive, with no complaints shown. Customers from Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham and Asheville, NC call it true luxury and cloud-like. They report feeling rested, pain-free mornings and looking forward to bedtime. One says it was worth every penny, and another calls it an investment in better sleep. One praises the comfort-support balance for both spouses.

The brand doesn't publish star-rating counts, third-party Google, BBB, Yelp or retailer aggregates, or verified complaints (checked September 2026).

Where can you try and buy?

Call (336) 272-8115, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. The contact form asks for your name, email, phone, zip and message. The site has Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages, plus Dealer Locator, Contact Us and Call John and David links.

The brand doesn't publish dealer and showroom list details (checked September 2026). We found no sign of Amazon, big-box or nationwide third-party retail. It looks like factory-direct plus dealers.

Delivery, setup and removal

Beds are made to order, not warehoused or boxed. They arrive flat, with no tight box or foam brick. Free white-glove delivery is advertised in many eastern regions, including white-glove home delivery in the Charlotte area. Service includes in-home setup, packaging removal and old-mattress removal if needed. Scheduling is stated as within 14 business days of your order, through a premier delivery partner.

The brand doesn't publish an exact zip-code coverage map, delivery fees outside covered regions, or thresholds and stairs policies (checked September 2026).

Sleep trial and returns

The 180-Day Comfort and Confidence Guarantee is online only. If the mattress isn't right, call (336) 272-8115 within 180 days and the brand will process a return. You pay a $199 restocking fee covering pickup and removal.

The brand doesn't publish exchange steps, comfort-swap options, required break-in nights, mattress condition rules or refund timing. It doesn't publish in-store or dealer purchase trial terms (checked September 2026).

Warranty

The brand doesn't publish a fixed warranty length. Check the law tag for the warranty period (checked September 2026). The mattress is covered for body impressions over 1.5 inches. That applies only when you use it continuously with the paired company base and a suitable frame, with floor-reaching center support on larger sizes. It also covers loose, broken or protruding coils or wires. Foundation coverage includes a splitting wood frame and defective, loose or bent beams.

It excludes comfort or firmness preference, stains, soiling, burns and odor. Impressions under 1.5 inches, misuse or careless handling, and edge-wire damage from folding or wrong moves are out. So are bed bugs, dust mites, and normal latex or foam softening without loss of pressure relief. You pay transport or inspection costs. Stains of any kind void the warranty. Keep your protector on, linens tidy and support aired, rotate monthly, and don't remove the law tag. The brand doesn't publish a claim address or steps. The site shows only a warranty registration module.

MattressGrove vs. other brands

Compressed bed-in-a-box brands ship rolled in a box with DIY setup. MattressGrove ships flat and uncompressed with white-glove setup. National innerspring makers like Sealy, Serta and Beautyrest offer national scale and broad retail. MattressGrove competes on small-batch North Carolina handcraft, silk-wool-gel materials and zoned lumbar builds.

On the same site, the licensed Spring Air Back Supporter and Chattam and Wells offerings differ from the Artisan. The Royale leans toward zoned coils plus flippable seasonal comfort. The Artisan leans toward a plush-to-firm gel hybrid choice. Ultra-budget value brands cost less, while MattressGrove prices premium for craft and service. The brand doesn't publish head-to-head test scores (checked September 2026).
