Mattress Mill Review

Mattress Mill is a family-run mattress maker in Bozeman, Montana, operating since 1986. It builds innerspring, pocketed-coil, zippered-comfort and blended Talalay latex beds by hand and sells factory-direct. The lineup is large and customizable. It runs from budget firm innersprings to premium latex hybrids. You get a 10-year warranty and a 120-day comfort-exchange program. It's a strong fit if you live in Montana. It's a weaker fit if you want free shipping or a risk-free trial.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you're a back or stomach sleeper who likes firm support, look at Nova I, Royale I or Royale II. All are rated Firm, and Royale II adds two-sided longevity. If you're a combination or average-weight side sleeper, Premier I or Premier II (both Medium) give you balance.

Couples with different firmness needs should look at Prestige, Preference, Gold, Platinum or Blended Latex. They all offer split side-to-side firmness and later layer swaps. If you sleep hot or are chemical-sensitive and lean natural, Blended Latex has a wool-quilted panel and latex comfort layers. If you want the lowest price, Nova I is it. For maximum adjustability, choose Platinum (two swappable 1.5-inch layers) or Blended Latex (two swappable latex inserts). We can't match Caliber or Nova II to sleep needs, because the brand doesn't publish their specs (checked September 2026).

Mattress prices and value

Published mattress-only ranges run Twin through King or Cal King unless noted. Nova I is $345 to $465 from Twin to Queen, with sets at $545 to $795. King pricing wasn't shown. Premier I is $585 to $1,125 ($785 to $1,585 as sets). Premier II is $685 to $1,325 ($885 to $1,785). Royale I is $735 to $1,425 ($935 to $1,885). Royale II is $935 to $1,675 ($1,135 to $2,135).

Prestige is $1,235 to $2,375 ($1,435 to $2,835). Preference is $1,435 to $2,775 ($1,635 to $3,235). Gold is $1,485 to $2,975 ($1,685 to $3,435). Platinum is $1,885 to $3,675 ($2,085 to $4,135). Blended Latex is $2,085 to $4,125 ($2,285 to $4,585).

Nova and Premier compete on price with mass-market innersprings, and they add local build and service. The zippered families cost more for swappable layers and split firmness. That can save you from buying a whole new bed after a comfort miss. Blended Latex is priced like premium Talalay hybrids. The brand also offers custom sizes, RV, low-profile, foam blocks and pet beds by quote. The brand doesn't publish Caliber or Nova II prices (checked September 2026).

What are the mattresses made of?

Support cores vary by family. Nova I uses a traditional Bonnell-style innerspring. Premier, Royale and the zippered families use individually fabric-wrapped pocketed coils. Several have extra-firm perimeter coils or high-density foam edge encasement. Blended Latex uses a 6-inch firm blended Talalay latex core.

Comfort layers include 1.8-lb-density support foam in Nova I, Royale and Premier II. Zippered models use 1.5-inch high-density polyurethane layers. Platinum, Gold and Blended Latex use two 1.5-inch blended Talalay inserts, which you choose in soft, medium or firm. Memory foam is an alternate cushion choice in Gold, Platinum and Blended Latex. The Blended Latex top combines foam layers with breathable, hypoallergenic New Zealand Joma wool.

Platinum, Gold, Preference and Prestige have a heavy-duty zipper top. It opens so you can reach, flip and swap the inner comfort layers, including split-firmness setups. Bases are sold separately: a 9-inch solid box spring, a 5.5-inch solid box spring or a 2-inch foundation. Optional toppers add about 2 inches of softness. The brand doesn't publish Caliber's construction (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The brand builds for longevity. Royale II and Premier II are two-sided and designed to be turned end over end and rotated. Zippered models have replaceable inserts, so you can refresh a softening top layer instead of replacing the bed. Pocketed coils have reinforced perimeters. The brand publishes a seasonal care schedule: flip or rotate in spring and fall, including flipping individual zippered inserts.

A 10-year workmanship and materials warranty backs it up, with a 3/4-inch body-impression threshold. Two caveats. The brand publishes no independent long-term durability data or third-party certifications such as CertiPUR-US, GOTS or GOLS (checked September 2026). It also doesn't fully disclose foam densities beyond the 1.8-lb support foam. Expected lifespan rests on maker claims and owner feedback.

Customer reviews and complaints

The brand's site embeds markup claiming a 5-star aggregate rating across 158 reviews. Its testimonials page shows only positive first-person comments. Themes include better sleep, low-pressure and knowledgeable staff, a tidy showroom, and careful home delivery with old-bed haul-away. Others mention durable builds and follow-up firmness exchanges. Example quotes are "We have never slept so good" and "NEVER once with any pressure." The official pages show no complaints.

We couldn't verify independent ratings or complaint volumes on Google, Yelp or BBB in September 2026. Treat the review picture as maker-presented, strongly positive and uncorroborated. Before you buy, call and ask about freight cost, exchange and restocking fees, and comfort-layer swap charges.

Where can you try and buy?

You can try and buy only through Mattress Mill itself. The single factory showroom is at 8383 Huffine Lane, Bozeman, MT 59718. Call or text (406) 586-4525. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 4:30pm MST, and Saturday, 10am to 4pm MST. It's closed Sunday.

You're invited to test beds in store with staff fitting help. Custom sizes are made to order, including RV, daybed or trundle, low-profile, foam blocks and pet beds. We found no third-party retailers, marketplaces or multi-state showrooms. All sales are direct, by store visit, phone, text or the official website.

Delivery, setup and removal

Local delivery costs $60 within 10 miles of the store, and most deliveries are within about 100 miles of Bozeman. It includes assembly of a purchased frame, installation and setup of your new set, and a mattress-care demonstration. It also includes haul-away of your old mattress and box spring under the brand's recycling program. Beds are built to order, and most are ready in about 2 to 3 weeks from order approval. Over half are built to stock and faster. Staff call a day or two ahead with a 30 to 45 minute arrival window.

Montana delivery covers Helena, Butte, Missoula, Billings and Great Falls. Nationwide freight goes by carrier at roughly $300 to $400 to the West, $500 to $700 to the Midwest and $600 to $800 to the East and South, depending on size. Curbside is the default, and inside delivery and setup cost extra. Existing owners can ask to have a bed shipped to a new location. Shipping isn't available to California. Added transit runs about 7 to 10 days.

Sleep trial and returns

There's no free trial or cash-refund sleep trial. Instead you get a 120-day Comfort Guarantee based on exchanges and adjustments. You can micro-adjust firmness within 120 days. Platinum, Gold or Latex layer swaps cost $150 per split-Queen or split-King 1.5-inch layer, at a substantial customer discount. That discount continues for the life of the bed after 120 days. Prestige or Preference swaps cost $75 per split-Queen or split-King 1.5-inch layer under the same structure.

You can also swap the whole model within 120 days. The full price of your current mattress is applied, minus restocking fees, plus transportation charges. The brand doesn't publish restocking fee amounts (checked September 2026). The warranty page separately mentions two comfort-layer changes within the first year. Confirm all fees, eligibility by model, and whether returned beds are restocked, donated or recycled before you buy.

Warranty

The brand states a 10-year warranty on all its mattresses. It covers workmanship and materials, including the ticking fabric. Body impressions are covered once they reach 3/4-inch depth. It excludes normal wear, softening (deemed normal), firmness-preference changes and impressions under 3/4 inch in usual sleep areas.

You handle remedies directly with the people who built the bed. The maker covers most material costs, less any transportation charges. The brand doesn't publish claim steps, law-tag or foundation requirements, transferability or proration schedules (checked September 2026).

Mattress Mill vs. other brands

Against national bed-in-a-box brands like Casper, Purple, Nectar and Saatva's online flagships, Mattress Mill trades away free shipping, long home trials and online scale. You get Montana handmade construction, in-store fitting and split-firmness customization. You also get flippable, re-layerable builds and direct access to the builders for service.

Against premium latex specialists, its Blended Latex uses blended Talalay, not certified-organic natural latex. It has a wool-quilted panel at comparable flagship prices, but no published third-party certifications. Against local and regional independents, it stands out for the zippered comfort-layer system, the 120-day exchange framework and true two-sided models. Its disadvantages are a single showroom, freight costs outside Montana, no California shipping and thinner published specs for Caliber and Nova II.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
