Bemco Mattress Review
Bemco is an old-school American brand, founded in 1954 and now built by SBI Mattress in Springfield, Illinois. You'll find 58 innerspring, gel memory foam and Talalay latex models, plus rare two-sided flippable beds and a numeric firm-to-plush comfort scale. There's no online store, no public prices and no sleep trial. The warranty averages 10 years. Bemco is also a licensing group, so a Bemco made in another state isn't the same bed as one made in Illinois. It suits you if you want to lie on a bed first at a local dealer.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?
Bemco's own Comfort Level scale makes this easy. Level 1 is ultra firm and 9 or 10 is ultra soft. Ultra firm (level 1 to 2) includes the Sloan Extra Firm Two Sided (1) and Sleep Sense Olympia Firm (1). It also includes Newhaven Firm (1.5) and Somerset Firm (1.5). Middleton Firm, Prescott Firm, Clayton Firm Flip and Sleep Sense Hybrid Nantucket are all 2. The Nantucket looks like a hybrid but is the firmest Sleep Sense bed.
Firm to medium firm (3 to 4.5) includes the Weston Firm Flip, Cascade Hybrid Gel, 8 In Luxury Gel and Heritage Firm (all 3). The Sterling Firm Flip is 3.5. Jasmine Firm, Foster Firm, Victoria Firm, Caroline Firm, Melody and Sleep Sense Olympia Pillowtop sit at 4. The Sterling Plush Flip is 4.5.
Medium (5 to 6.5) covers the Jasmine, Foster, Victoria and Clayton plush and pillowtop beds (5). Calm Nights Gel 9 In is also 5. Coastal Dreams 10 In is 6, as are the Middleton, Heritage and Prescott plush and pillowtop beds. Chattam & Wells Foam Core is 6 too. The Newhaven, Somerset and Sloan Plush beds are 6.5.
Plush (7 to 10) covers Weston Plush Flip, Sea Scape Gel 12 In and Sleep Sense Hybrid Amelia and Catalina. The Chattam & Wells Plush, Firm and Pillowtop, Aspen Hybrid Latex and Lilly Latex are also 7. Ocean Side 12 In and Evergreen Latex Core are 9.
Side sleepers who want pressure relief should look at the gel memory foam beds with 3 to 4 in of gel, or at the latex beds. Back sleepers, stomach sleepers and heavier sleepers do best in the 858 independent coil group with 70 ILD torsion edges. Couples should favor the 858-coil beds, since Bemco credits that coil with motion separation. You'll find nine flippable two-sided choices and five all-foam beds with no springs. Hot sleepers can look at gel memory foam, Joma wool on Chattam & Wells, or the breathability of Talalay latex.
Mattress prices and value
Bemco doesn't display prices on its shop page, but its product pages and catalog data list them. Queen prices run from $499.99 regular and $399.99 sale for the Melody up to $3,099.99 regular and $2,999.99 sale for the Chattam & Wells Pillowtop. That's roughly $400 to $3,000. Every model currently carries a Sale badge, usually $100 off. The Evergreen Latex Core is $200 off. BestCompany says neither Bemco nor its retailers list pricing, and each retailer asks you to contact them for a quote.
Here are the tiers. Between $400 and $600 you get a Melody, Caroline or Victoria. Between $700 and $900 you get a Jasmine, Foster, Heritage, Sterling Flip, Middleton or Prescott. The 8 In Luxury Gel and Calm Nights fit there too. Between $1,000 and $1,300 you get a Newhaven, Sloan, Weston, Clayton, Somerset or Cascade Hybrid Gel. Coastal Dreams, Sea Scape Gel and Ocean Side fit there too.
Between $1,400 and $1,900 you get the Talalay latex group (Gardinia, Orchid, Lotus Blossom, Lilly). Chattam & Wells Foam Core and the Sleep Sense Olympia and Hybrid Amelia fit there too. At $2,000 and up are Sleep Sense Olympia Plush and Pillowtop, Hybrid Nantucket and Catalina. The Chattam & Wells Aspen, Plush, Firm, Pillowtop and Evergreen are up there as well.
The best value is in the flippable beds and the Talalay latex beds. A Sterling Flip at $799.99 sale can be turned, which doubles the usable surface. The weakest value is the Chattam & Wells top three at $2,700 to $3,000. The all-foam Gel Collection is weak too. An 8 in bed at $999.99 sale competes with better-specified online foam beds. Because Bemco sells only through dealers, expect discounts off list, bundle pricing with a foundation, and financing from the dealer.
What are the mattresses made of?
Bemco builds four construction families. The Melody uses a 285 Verti coil. The 504 Verti Coil System is the volume group (Caroline, Victoria, Jasmine, Foster, Heritage, Sterling). The 805 Lura-Flex covers Clayton, Middleton, Prescott and Weston. The 858 independent coil covers Newhaven, Somerset, Sloan, Cascade and Chattam & Wells. Chattam & Wells adds a 1351 independent coil on top. All six Sleep Sense beds use the Hi/Lo Coil. Bemco says it adds support at the shoulders and hips and gives 15 to 30 percent better pressure relief.
Edges use 70 ILD ultra-firm or torsion support on the better beds and firm foam encasement on the rest. Flippable and Posture beds add a center-third reinforcement. Comfort layers are high-density firm, super-soft, Conforma and gel memory foam (1 in to 4 in depending on the model). The latex group uses Talalay latex over a 6 in or 7 in foam core. Bemco says it's Oeko-Tex Class 1 certified and washed in a 5-cycle system. It also says the latex is ILD-tested at nine points, hypoallergenic, mold and dust-mite resistant, and made in the USA. The Evergreen is the one exception, with a 6 in Talalay core.
The flippable range uses what Bemco calls a patented eco-wood base instead of a box spring. Covers are firm or super-soft quilt. The four latex beds have a bamboo quilt. Chattam & Wells has a four-way stretch knit and Joma wool, which Bemco says regulates heat. Covers carry a fire-retardant barrier. Bemco's 'Mattress of Tomorrow' sheet names Arctic Life, Arctic Breeze, MaxLife and Supple-Soft as proprietary parts. The brand doesn't publish foam densities, and it makes no organic, GOTS, GOLS or CertiPUR-US claim (checked September 2026).
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Durability is mixed and depends on which factory built your bed. Bemco is a licensing group, so each factory builds to its own spec. GoodBed's owners report an average lifespan of 14.2 years, which is long. Bemco points to high-density foams, button tufting on the better beds, heavy-duty center and edge reinforcement, and two-sided construction on nine models.
The most common complaint in reviews is body impressions and sagging, with some owners reporting severe impressions within one to three months. The warranty sets a low bar. Bemco only treats sagging as a defect at 1.5 inches of severe compression, and it excludes body impressions as normal conforming. You must also rotate the mattress every three weeks for the first six months, then every sixty days. Stains and a non-matching foundation void coverage.
The flippable and 858-coil beds with 70 ILD torsion edges are the durability picks. Be wary of the 504 Verti-Coil promotional beds at the bottom of the range. The all-foam Gel Collection has the least published durability information.
Customer reviews and complaints
Reviews are thin but useful. GoodBed has 301 owner ratings for the brand, an overall 84 out of 100 (Very Good). Sub-scores are Back Support 68, Pressure Relief 65, Sleep Quality 74 and Stays Cool 76. Value and Warranty Service are N/A. By line, Posture scores 84 from 104 ratings, Sleep Dimensions 84 from 13 ratings and MemoryRest 83 from 29 ratings. So the brand scores well overall but lower on back support and pressure relief.
BestCompany has only 3 reviews, for a 4.0 out of 5, with 4.5 for Value, Quality, Service and Trustworthiness. Two reviewers give 5 stars, one saying her back problems don't stop her sleeping well. A third gives 2 stars and calls the bed a clear downgrade from a Posturepedic. BestCompany lists Variety, Handmade and Warranty as positives, and Cost and Purchase Options as negatives.
GoodBed complaints focus on sagging. One owner says a replacement was in worse shape after 3 months than a 10-year-old bed, and was told the body impression must reach 1.5 inches. Another says the mattress sinks after the first month. A third says a bed only 1 1/2 years old looks 20 years old. A January 2026 reviewer rated Back Support 3/5, Pressure Relief 3/5, Sleep Quality 2/5 and Stays Cool 2/5. A single Yelp review of the Springfield factory store was negative. The Better Business Bureau shows an A+ rating, accredited since Jan 31, 2019, 57 years in business and 0 customer reviews. We couldn't find a complaint count. We found no complaints on Reddit, Trustpilot or Consumer Reports, and no professional in-person review of a current Bemco model.
Where can you try and buy?
Bemco sells through dealers only. Its shop is a retailer catalog, and the RETAILER LOGIN leads to a dealer account area. BestCompany notes you can't buy a Bemco online, the beds are special-ordered, and you can't avoid a sales conversation. You'll try beds at independent furniture and mattress dealers.
Bemco's Coverage Area page is a radius search (10, 25, 50, 100, 200 or 500 miles). We queried it in September 2026 and it returned 107 dealers. About 84 are in Illinois, 15 in Missouri, 3 in Indiana, 1 in Wisconsin and 1 in Iowa, plus one test listing. One named dealer is the factory showroom (4952 Industrial Dr, Springfield, IL 62703, 217-529-0777). Others include Barneys Furniture, Just Beds, Rooms Direct, Darell's Waterbeds and The Room Place. Mattress Express, Mueller Furniture, Midwest Clearance and Sleep Tight are also listed. There's no dealer in the Southeast, Northeast, West Coast or any state outside the Midwest.
Furniture Mart in North Carolina (336-599-8317) calls itself a 45-year Bemco partner. It sells the Posture Freemont Firm in twin, full, queen and king, and says its Bemco beds are made in North Carolina. That fits the licensing-group model, not the Springfield factory.
Delivery, setup and removal
The brand does not publish delivery terms (checked September 2026). Bemco has no shipping page, no white-glove setup terms and no old-mattress removal offer on its site. The footer's Return Policy and Privacy Policy are plain text, and both web addresses return an error.
The warranty page excludes transportation. If you bring a bed to the Springfield, IL factory yourself, you pay to move it both ways. Delivery, setup and haul-away are set and priced by each dealer. Treat them as a line item to negotiate, and get the terms in writing before you sign. BestCompany says you must ask a local retailer for wait times.
Sleep trial and returns
The brand does not publish a sleep trial, return window, exchange policy, restocking fee or refund policy (checked September 2026). The footer's Return Policy text isn't a working link. The warranty covers repair or replacement only, and it excludes comfort preference and As Is sets.
Any return or comfort guarantee will be your dealer's own policy. Ask for it in writing. Confirm whether you'd get store credit or a refund, who pays freight, and whether there's a restocking percentage. A stained cover voids the warranty, so pair any trial with a waterproof protector from day one.
Warranty
The warranty is detailed and repair-or-replace, with no proration. Terms run 20, 15, 12, 10, 7, 5, 3 or 1 year depending on the warranty code on the law label, so length varies by model. BestCompany reports current mattresses carry 10 years, which it calls average. Older models ranged from 1 to 35 years. Coverage starts on the day you buy the set.
Covered: loose, broken or protruding coils or wires. Sagging is covered at 1.5 inches of severe compression, but only on a matching foundation and a suitable frame with center support. Foundations are covered for wood frame splits and compressed coils or modules.
Not covered: stained, burned or soiled covers, body impressions and bent border wires. Ripped handles, comfort preference, sheet fit and height aren't covered either. Neither are transportation, abuse, As Is sets and institutional sales such as hotels and hospitals.
You must rotate the mattress side to side every three weeks for six months, then every sixty days. Rotate the foundation end to end every sixty days. Use a four-leg metal frame or four slats for Twin, Full, Twin XL and Full XL. Queen needs a five-leg frame. King needs a six-leg frame with at least two center legs. To claim, contact your dealer with a dated receipt. SBI picks the set up, repairs it and returns it the next week, or you can bring it to the Springfield factory. The warranty isn't renewed or extended, and there's no loaner set.
Bemco vs. other brands
Bemco competes in a shrinking niche: the American-made, dealer-sold, two-sided innerspring bed. Against Sealy, Serta, Simmons and Beautyrest, it still builds flippable and button-tufted mattresses, and it quotes coil counts and edge ILD. Against Casper, Purple, Nectar and DreamCloud it's the opposite on every axis. There's no online ordering, no published prices and no trial, but you can lie on the bed and deal with a local business.
Against dedicated latex brands, Bemco's Talalay beds are priced well but aren't all-latex. They laminate 2 in to 4 in of Talalay over a foam core. Its Clayton, Sterling, Sloan and Weston flips cost $799.99 to $1,199.99 on sale with 70 ILD edges. SBI Mattress also owns Chattam & Wells and Spring Air Back Supporter. Bemco is the value tier, Spring Air Back Supporter the mid tier and Chattam & Wells the luxury tier.
Against regional makers, the weakness is licensing. A North Carolina Bemco and an Illinois Bemco are different beds under one name. The badge alone guarantees less than it does for a single-factory brand.
How we put this review together
We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.

How much does a Bemco queen cost?
The brand's catalog lists queens from $499.99 regular and $399.99 sale for the Melody to $3,099.99 regular and $2,999.99 sale for the Chattam & Wells Pillowtop. Every model carries a Sale badge. Nine of the 58 models are two-sided flippables. They're the Clayton Firm, Plush and Pillowtop Flip, the Sterling Firm and Plush Flip, and the Sloan Extra Firm Two Sided. Is Bemco the same company as Spring Air and Chattam & Wells?
They're related. BestCompany reports Bemco is owned by SBI Mattress, which also owns Chattam & Wells and Spring Air, and builds them all in Springfield, Illinois. Bemco is also a licensing group, so other factories use the name and build their own beds. Furniture Mart in North Carolina says its Bemco stock is made in North Carolina.
