Von Viva Mattress Review

Von Viva is a factory brand in Calgary, Canada. It builds six made-to-order modular mattresses and tailors each one to you through a consultation. You can choose hybrids (Von Moda, Von Jasmine and Von Orchid), pocket coils (Von Duchess and Von Empress) or an all-organic latex bed (Von Organa). Shipping covers North America. You get a 15-year pro-rated warranty and a 75% refund return policy. The brand doesn't publish prices for its standard models. US buyers can currently order components only, not finished mattresses.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you and your partner want different firmness, look at the Von Moda, Von Jasmine or Von Orchid. The brand lists them in that order of price and flexibility, with 8 or more firmness levels, or 16 counting per-side tailoring. If you have pain issues or need zoned support, the Von Orchid is the pick.

If a partner's movement wakes you, any spring-free hybrid helps. The Von Empress gives you a coil feel with less motion transfer. If you have allergies, choose the Von Organa, or the Von Empress built with organic cotton, wool and latex. If heat affects your sleep, choose natural or organic materials and skip memory foam. The brand says memory foam has little breathability. Every model can be built with or without it.

If you want bounce, the Von Duchess is higher and livelier, while the Von Empress has lower, stabler coils. For oversized or irregular sizes, ask about the Von Epica collection or a custom quote. You set firmness in a phone, web or in-person consultation about your position, height, weight and preference. If your first build misses, the brand ships new components at cost.

Mattress prices and value

The brand doesn't publish prices for its six standard models, because it quotes them after consultation. As of September 2026, the published prices are the oversized Von Epica starting prices in CAD. They are Kona $4,188, Denali $4,934, Empress $5,197 and Everest $7,349. Shipping is included in mattress prices for most North American destinations.

Component prices in USD show you the build cost. A Duchess core with micro-coils and a plush quilted cover starts at $809. Empress cores start at $1,048 with a plush quilted cover, $1,112 quilted to wool, and $1,196 with organic GOTS cotton quilted to wool. Blended Talalay latex is $239 (2 in) and $302 (3 in). Natural Talalay is $267 (2 in) and $344 (3 in). Organic Dunlop latex 2 in is $239.

High-density foam is $140 (2 in) and $182 (4 in). Dura foam 7 in is $330, and UltraCell high-resiliency foam 4 in is $81. A 5 lb memory foam layer is $210 (2 in) and $281 (3 in). Covers start at $175 plush quilted, $210 stretch knit quilted to wool and $246 organic cotton GOTS quilted to wool.

The value case is modularity. You pay material cost plus shipping with no mark-ups to replace a worn layer. The brand says its mattresses last 8 to 15 years without refurbishment. The trade-off is that returns refund 75% of the price minus shipping, and you can't comparison shop without a price list.

What are the mattresses made of?

There are three constructions. The hybrids (Von Moda, Von Jasmine and Von Orchid) have no springs. They use layers of high-resiliency foam and/or latex, which the brand says cuts motion transfer. The Von Duchess uses 9 in pocket coils plus micro-coils. The Von Empress uses 7 in variable-tension pocket coils. The Von Organa is spring-free and organic, and the Von Empress can be built with organic materials around the coils.

Named materials include natural Talalay latex, organic Dunlop latex, blended Talalay and Joma wool. You'll also see organic GOTS cotton, high-density and high-resiliency foams, 4 lb to 5 lb memory foam and plush synthetic foams. Memory foam is optional on every model. The brand recommends against it if heat is an issue. The latex is washed to remove the proteins linked to latex allergy, and you can ask for sample pieces to touch.

Every mattress is modular. Removable, flippable sections sit inside a zip cover, and you can swap, rotate or replace each labeled component. Cover options are plush quilted zip and tape edged, stretch knit quilted to wool, and organic cotton GOTS quilted to wool. The brand doesn't publish a foam density beyond the memory foam weight, and it doesn't publish a coil count.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The brand says most of its mattresses last longer than 15 years, and typically 8 to 15 years without refurbishment. It rates wear parts separately. Latex toppers last 8 to 12 years and 5 lb memory foam lasts 7 to 10 years. Softer materials lose resiliency faster, and larger sleepers speed up wear.

You should flip and rotate components four times a year, and more often is better. Spot clean only. Never wash the quilted zip cover. Metal frames need at least three support bars with one in the middle. They also need 6 to 7 legs for queen, double and single sizes, and 8 legs for king. Wood slat foundations need at least five slats with center support on the middle slat. Platform designs are the strongest and most supportive.

If a section wears out, you replace that component rather than the whole bed. That's the brand's core durability argument. The brand doesn't publish independent long-term durability testing or third-party sag data (checked September 2026).

Customer reviews and complaints

The brand doesn't publish reviews, and we found none from independent sources (checked September 2026). We found no review profile for Von Viva or its operating company Sleep Boutique on Trustpilot, Google reviews, Yelp, Reddit or the Better Business Bureau. The vonviva.com site has no customer review section, star rating or testimonials.

The only rating-style claim is the brand's own line that it's highly rated with over 40 years of experience. We can't point you to a complaint pattern, return-rate data or a satisfaction score. The lack of reviews looks like a small Canadian factory selling direct, not a service failure.

Where can you try and buy?

You buy direct from Von Viva, operated by Sleep Boutique at Suite 160, 5423 61 Ave SE, Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2C 5N7. Call 833.244.6288 toll free or 403.287.1960 locally. You can also email the brand. Orders and consultations run through vonviva.com or in person at the Calgary factory showroom, which the brand also calls its store. In-person pickup earns a store credit roughly equal to the shipping saved.

We found no third-party retailers, dealers, department stores or online marketplaces stocking the brand (checked September 2026). You can't test a bed in a store first. A designer program gives trade professionals a flat-rate discount, a unique code and account management. It can also arrange client consultations. US customers can buy components, but finished mattresses are paused while fire-rating certification is completed.

Delivery, setup and removal

Shipping is free across North America, based on typical shipping allowances. Remote areas, ferry-served locations, Hawaii and Alaska often cost more. The brand contacts you to approve a surcharge or cancel. For this policy, North America excludes Hawaii. Build time is 2 to 4 weeks. The FAQ says regular sizes take 2 to 3 weeks and an oversized mattress takes about 5 weeks end to end. Then add 6 to 12 days of shipping, and at times 10 to 14 days.

Mattresses ship by truck as bagged, cubed components on a pallet, wrapped in cardboard and strapped. Drop-off is normally curbside, and one person can unpackage and move it. You need no tools. The components are labeled and instructions are included. Lay down the cover, zip it open, fit the components bottom to top and zip the quilted cover tight. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes for the mattress and under 45 minutes with a foundation.

Inspect your delivery before the carrier leaves. Document any outside damage and report it to the delivery company on the spot. For US deliveries, a partnered customs broker contacts you to act as the importer. The brand says there are no hidden broker fees. The brand doesn't publish an old-mattress removal service (checked September 2026).

Sleep trial and returns

There's no classic sleep trial and no money-back window. Instead, the brand promises you'll sleep better in the first 120 days. If you aren't, it makes adjustments or exchanges components. New components normally ship at the cost of material and delivery. If concerns persist, you can keep buying replacement components. Most fixes replace one component, not the whole mattress.

You can return a mattress for any reason for a 75% refund minus shipping costs. Shipping is included in the purchase price, but on a return you pay outbound and return freight. You must repackage the mattress, and the brand helps with shipping arrangements. The brand doesn't publish a restocking fee beyond the 25% it retains and the shipping cost. Discuss shipping costs before you order if returns worry you.

Damage in transit is fixed with a replacement component or a refund. The damage must be reported to the delivery company before it leaves.

Warranty

Coverage starts the day you receive the product. All mattresses carry a 15-year pro-rated warranty. The FAQ also says 10 years pro-rated minus the comfort layers, so the published terms disagree. The pocket-coil models (Von Duchess and Von Empress) are covered or repaired for the full 15 years for broken, loose or depressed coils. Coils or wires projecting through the fabric and loose tape-edge stitching are covered too. The brand may repair locally or at the factory, and you pay shipping.

Hybrid foam and latex mattresses are 15-year pro-rated. The brand's example is a $2,000 mattress used 8 years, which gets about $1,066 toward a replacement mattress or component. Zip covers carry 5 years, excluding shrinkage from washing, and mattress fabrics carry 5 years against normal wear defects. Foams are covered for indentations or sagging greater than 1 inch. The brand decides whether softening is a defect or normal wear.

Exclusions include changing comfort preferences, bending or moving a mattress improperly, abuse, indentations under 1 inch, normal foam breakdown and transportation costs. The brand doesn't accept dirty, stained, smelly, smoky or damaged mattresses for health reasons. You must use a suitable foundation and frame, and flip and rotate four times a year.

Von Viva vs. other brands

Von Viva is a small Canadian factory-direct maker, not a mass-market brand. It says it's been building since 1976 with over 40 years of experience, in Calgary, Alberta. Each bed is built to order, so you don't compromise on one firmness. The construction is modular, with replaceable, flippable, zippable components. Per-side and per-zone firmness across 8 or more levels is unusual outside airbeds and a handful of luxury makers.

It also specializes in oversized beds, including Alaskan King, Wyoming King and family beds, plus custom sizes, depths and shapes. Organic, latex and memory-foam-free builds are available.

The trade-offs against typical online and retail brands are real. You get no published prices for the six standard models, and a 2 to 4 week build plus 6 to 12 days of shipping. Returns refund 75% of the price minus shipping, not a 100-night full refund. There's no old-mattress removal, no showroom network and no third-party review evidence, and finished mattresses to the US are paused. The brand doesn't publish independent head-to-head testing (checked September 2026), so these comparisons rest on published specs, not measured performance.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.

Quick answers before you buy

How much does a Von Viva mattress cost?

The brand quotes the six standard models after consultation. Oversized Von Epica models start at CAD $4,188 for Kona, $4,934 for Denali, $5,197 for Empress and $7,349 for Everest. Individual components run from about USD $81 to $1,196.

Can I try one before buying?

Not in a retail store. There's no dealer network and no published showroom trial program. Consultations happen by phone, web or at the Calgary factory. The brand offers a 120-day adjustment window plus a 75% refund return, not a full money-back trial.

How long until it arrives?

Build takes 2 to 4 weeks and shipping takes 6 to 12 days. Oversized mattresses take about 5 weeks end to end. US buyers can't order finished mattresses right now while fire-rating certification is pending, though components still ship.

Do I need to assemble it?

Yes, but you don't need tools. Components arrive labeled and palletized. Lay out the zip cover, drop the components in bottom to top and zip the cover closed. It takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes for the mattress and under 45 minutes with a foundation.

What if the firmness is wrong?

The brand ships replacement or adjusted components, normally at the cost of material plus delivery. It doesn't replace the whole mattress. You set different right and left firmness when you order.

What is the warranty and return policy?

You get a 15-year pro-rated warranty from receipt, with 5 years on the zip cover and 5 years on fabric wear. Pocket-coil models also have coil coverage. Returns get a 75% refund minus shipping, and you pay return freight.
