Otis Bed Mattress Review

Otis Bed is a family-owned Buffalo, New York futon maker, founded in 1882. It sells cottonless futon mattresses in foam, memory foam and one innerspring, mostly through dealers. Street prices for a full or queen run about $460 to $720. You get true 8-inch tufted builds and a 10-year limited warranty on retail listings. The brand doesn't publish a sleep trial. It's a good match if you want a firm futon or platform-bed mattress. It's a weaker match if you're a side sleeper who wants plush, or if you need a trial or white-glove delivery.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you're a back or stomach sleeper, start with the firm end of the line. That means the Haley 110, Haley 150, Gemini or Galaxy. The Mercury, Phoenix and Liberty multi-foam models fit too.

Side sleepers have the hardest time here. The softest feels are Moonshadow, Stratosphere, the soft side of the Luxury and the 12-inch Pulsar. Amazon reviewers say even the plush models feel firm, so plan on a topper.

Heavier sleepers do best on the densest builds, like the Gemini and Haley 150 at 60 lb in full. Hot sleepers should know there's no cooling gel or latex in the line. These are polyurethane foam and polyester futons. The brand doesn't publish weight limits.

Mattress prices and value

Otis doesn't publish prices on otisbed.com, so cost depends on the dealer. The brand's own wording puts Stratosphere as the least expensive. Moonshadow, Haley 90, 110, 150 and Luxury sit mid-range. Galaxy is mid-high and Gemini is premium.

On Amazon, sold and shipped by Futonland on September 22, 2026, the Luxury was $459.99 full and $579.99 queen. Haley 90 was $515.99 and $629.99. Haley 110 was $521.99 and $629.99. Haley 150 was $719.99 full and $656.99 queen. That's a band of about $460 to $720.

You can add paid protection on Amazon for $109.99 (a 3-year plan) or $16.99 per month. Compared with bed-in-a-box queens at $600 to $800, Otis offers fewer perks. It has no trial and no free return pickup.

What are the mattresses made of?

Every model is a cottonless, compression-packed mattress. It's built from polyurethane foam, polyester batting and a 100 percent polyester cover, wrapped in flame-retardant rayon. The Haley 90 page says the brand uses foam at 1.8 lb per cubic foot or better. Other models list 2.0 lb and 2.5 lb foam.

Gemini adds 6 inches of convoluted 4 lb foam. Pulsar adds a 3-inch memory foam layer and a 12-inch Comfort Lock build. Galaxy adds a Bonnell coil unit. The Amazon Luxury listing cites a rayon layer meeting 16 CFR Part 1633, and the brand claims handmade-in-the-USA construction.

The brand doesn't publish CertiPUR-US, GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX, GREENGUARD or organic certifications (checked September 2026). It doesn't publish firmness numbers or recycled content either.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Durability is claimed, not independently tested. The brand states 10 years for Stratosphere, 10 to 12 years or more for Moonshadow, Haley 90, 110, 150 and Luxury, 10 years or more for Gemini and 10 to 15 years for Galaxy. It says the pack survives over 30,000 pounds of pressure.

Owner reports are mixed. One Haley 90 reviewer slept on theirs for over 17 years. A Haley 110 owner reports no flat spots after four months. Another Haley 110 reviewer reports divots, and a Haley 150 buyer saw strained stitching around the tuft holes. Most models rotate rather than flip, but the Luxury flips between soft and medium-firm.

Customer reviews and complaints

The brand doesn't show reviews on its own site. Most ratings come from Amazon, where Futonland sells the mattresses. On September 22, 2026, Haley 110 full held 4.3 from 58 ratings, and Haley 110 queen held 3.8 from 16. Luxury full held 4.7 from 19 and Luxury queen 3.8 from 14. Haley 150 queen held 4.3 from 41 and Haley 150 full 4.7 from 20. Haley 90 full held 5.0 from 4, and Stratosphere full held 4.0 from 11.

Of Haley 110 full ratings, 69 percent are 5-star. On the queen, 56 percent are 5-star. Haley 150 full has 81 percent 5-star, Luxury full has 80 percent, and 21 percent of Stratosphere full ratings are 1-star. Buyers praise the support, the true stated thickness and the easy handling. Complaints center on firmness, since one 2-star reviewer said it 'looks soft and plush but its super firm'. Others say the thick slab doesn't fold well into a couch, and that Grip Strips are close to mandatory to stop sliding.

Outside Amazon, ratings are scarce. SmartCustomer lists the brand with 0 reviews. We couldn't check BBB, Yelp or Trustpilot in September 2026.

Where can you try and buy?

Otis is a dealer-first brand. otisbed.com has no cart and no public dealer list. You fill out the Dealer Locator form, and the company replies with the nearest dealer. You can also call 716.825.2599 or toll-free 800.588.OTIS (6847).

The only online retailer we confirmed is Amazon, where Futonland sells eight Otis listings in full and queen. The Futon Shop doesn't carry the brand. Otis also says it supplies universities, government, military, hospitals and nursing homes. The brand doesn't publish a showroom address.

Delivery, setup and removal

Every Otis futon ships compression-packed by UPS or FedEx, including King sizes. You open the box and let the mattress expand. Amazon listings showed free delivery on the full and queen models we checked on September 22, 2026.

The brand doesn't publish white-glove delivery, setup, old-mattress removal or lead times. Plan to position it yourself. Weights run from 35 lb for a full Stratosphere to 60 lb for a full Gemini, Galaxy or Haley 150.

Grip Strips are recommended on bi-fold frames, one pair per futon. Each model pairs with a 6-inch or 8-inch box overcover. The Haley 150 is flat-only and isn't meant for futon sofas or loungers.

Sleep trial and returns

Otis doesn't publish a sleep trial, return, exchange or restocking-fee policy. Any return terms come from the seller. Amazon listings from Futonland show a 30-day refund or replacement window, and return shipping fees may apply. The Haley 150 full listing also shows a 90-day option.

There's no brand home trial, no free pickup and no firmness exchange. If you buy in a store, that store's rules apply. Confirm the terms in writing before you order, and give the mattress a few weeks to expand before judging the firmness.

Warranty

The only warranty we could verify is the Amazon wording '10 Year Limited Warranty against manufacturers defects'. It appears on the Luxury, Stratosphere and Haley 150 listings. The Haley 110 and Haley 90 listings link to warranty information without a term.

otisbed.com has no warranty page (checked September 2026). Eligibility, proration, sag limits, exclusions and the claim process aren't stated. Assume defect-only coverage, keep your receipt and ask the dealer for the written terms before you buy.

Otis Bed vs. other brands

Against traditional cotton futons, Otis argues that foam holds its shape where cotton compacts and sheds dust. Cotton futons start softer and breathe more. Against wool and latex futons, The Futon Shop advertises its own at about $616 to $1,120 for wool and $770 to $1,400 for latex. Those rivals publish natural certifications that Otis doesn't. Otis wins on price.

Against bed-in-a-box mattresses in the $600 to $800 range, Otis offers no trial and no CertiPUR-US label. If you want a risk-free trial, it's the wrong category. Against cheap imported futons, Otis offers US manufacturing and a stated 10-year warranty, though the brand has no independent testing.

How we put this review together
