Mainstays Mattress Review
Mainstays is Walmart's own house brand, not an independent mattress maker. It sells ultra-budget bed-in-a-box mattresses in memory foam, pocket-spring hybrid and gel-foam innerspring. Most are 6 to 8 inches thick. Prices we saw run roughly $75 to $220. Walmart ratings sit near 4.1 to 4.5 stars. It's best for kids rooms, guest beds and tight budgets. It's not for you if you want a sleep trial or premium durability.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?
Back sleepers should look at the Pocket Spring Hybrid 8 in for the most support. They can pick Memory Foam 6 in if they like a firmer, thin feel. Side sleepers will find the Hybrid 8 in is the safest of the three. But strict side sleepers and heavier sleepers will likely find all three too thin. Consider a thicker mattress elsewhere.
Stomach sleepers can choose Memory Foam 6 in Medium Firm or the Tight Top Innerspring. For kids, bunks, dorms and guest rooms, any of the three works by budget. Memory Foam is the cheapest entry. Gel foam is marketed for cooling. We found no independent cooling test data. The Hybrid breathes best of the three.
Mattress prices and value
This is ultra-budget Walmart house-brand pricing. On Walmart.com we saw Memory Foam 6 in Twin at $74.88, shown out of stock when we checked. The Pocket Spring Hybrid 8 in Twin ran around $98 to $104, with larger sizes up to about $218. The Tight Top Innerspring Full ran around $108 to $148 by thickness and size.
Prices vary by size, seller stock and rollback timing. It's strong price-per-night value for occasional use and kids beds. It's weak value if you need a daily-driver bed to last 7-plus years. A thicker mid-range bed is the better spend there.
What are the mattresses made of?
Memory Foam has a green-tea-infused memory foam comfort layer over liquid gel flex foam support. It has a stretch-knit cover. The Walmart listing states CertiPUR-US certified materials. The Pocket Spring Hybrid 8 in has individually pocketed coils with foam comfort layers. The listing states CertiPUR-US certified foam and an OEKO-TEX certified cover.
The Tight Top Innerspring with Gel Foam has a steel innerspring coil unit, a gel-foam comfort layer and a tight-top cover. The brand doesn't publish full foam densities, coil counts or cover fabric content (checked September 2026).
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Thin budget builds mean modest longevity. 6-inch all-foam and basic innerspring beds typically show body impressions and edge softening sooner than thicker mid-range beds. Walmart listings carry a 10-year limited warranty statement, with plan details limited on the page. We found no independent long-term durability testing for Mainstays models.
Realistic life is a few years of nightly adult use. It's longer for kids and occasional guest use. The brand doesn't publish sagging thresholds or impression-depth terms (checked September 2026).
Customer reviews and complaints
On Walmart.com we saw Memory Foam near 4.1 to 4.3 stars. The Pocket Spring Hybrid sits near 4.4 to 4.5 stars across hundreds of reviews. Tight Top Innerspring listings show thousands of reviews. Positive themes are low price, easy bed-in-a-box setup and acceptable comfort for kids and guests.
Complaints common to thin budget beds are firmness surprises, weak edge support, heat and early impressions. We didn't check them review by review. We have no detailed complaint breakdown (checked September 2026).
Where can you try and buy?
Mainstays is a Walmart exclusive. You can buy at Walmart.com for shipping or store pickup, and in many Walmart stores subject to local stock. There are no brand-owned stores, no independent dealers and no try-before-you-buy showroom.
Mainstays has no standalone mattress website. Shopping, checkout and support all run through Walmart. The brand doesn't publish floor-model availability by store (checked September 2026).
Delivery, setup and removal
It's a bed-in-a-box. It's compressed, rolled and shipped to your door through Walmart, or you can pick it up at local stores where it's stocked. Standard shipping terms and any freight thresholds follow Walmart's current store policy. They vary by item and location.
We found no brand-level white-glove setup or haul-away program on the listings. It's standard Walmart delivery only. Unboxing and expansion guidance ships with the product. The brand doesn't publish a full delivery-fee schedule (checked September 2026).
Sleep trial and returns
There's no brand-level sleep trial, because Mainstays is a Walmart house label and not a direct-to-consumer brand. Purchases fall under Walmart's standard store return policy. It may differ for opened bedding by location and timing.
The brand doesn't publish the exact mattress return window, restocking or pickup fees or exchange steps (checked September 2026). Check the return terms on the Walmart listing and your receipt before you buy.
Warranty
Walmart product pages show a 10-year limited warranty statement on Mainstays mattress listings. The brand doesn't publish the full warranty text. That includes covered defects, sagging-depth thresholds, the claim process and transport costs (checked September 2026).
Walmart also sells optional Walmart Protection Plans for mattresses. They cover accidental issues per plan terms, and plan pricing varies by item. Keep your receipt and law-label tags for any claim.
Mainstays vs. other brands
Against Zinus and Lucid, you get similar rock-bottom pricing and thin bed-in-a-box builds. Those brands publish fuller specs and run real sleep trials. Mainstays wins on Walmart pickup convenience only. Against Allswell, Walmart's former premium house line, Allswell offered thicker hybrids with trials. Mainstays is cheaper and thinner.
Against Beautyrest, Sealy and Serta, there's no comparison on durability, comfort options or warranty service. Mainstays is strictly a stopgap and guest-bed tier.
How we put this review together
We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
