Eight Sleep Mattress Review

Eight Sleep, founded in 2014 in New York, is a sleep-tech brand. Its core product is the Pod cover system, not a traditional mattress. Pod 5 starts at $2,999, and you must also pay for an Autopilot plan. Its 5-layer Premium Mattress costs $1,899 and has a 30-night trial. It exists only as a Pod companion. It's best for hot sleepers who want dual-zone cooling. As a standalone mattress buy, it's weak value.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you sleep hot, the Pod 5 Cover is the point of the brand. It offers per-side cooling to 55F aimed at overheating, night sweats and hot flashes. The Premium Mattress alone has no active cooling and only makes sense paired with the Pod.

If you sleep on your side, the medium all-foam companion mattress should contour in theory. The brand doesn't publish per-position guidance. There are no firmness options, so one model can't serve different support needs.

Couples benefit most from the independent dual-zone climate. The brand doesn't publish weight guidance, support limits or edge-support details (checked September 2026).

Mattress prices and value

The Premium Mattress is $1,899. Page code also shows $1,999 and $2,099 points. An archived copy of the brand's site from 2026 showed $1,899 against $1,999 with $100 off. Pod 5 Cover points are $2,799, $2,999 and $3,199. A $2,999 example totals $3,298 with Autopilot.

Autopilot Enhanced costs $25 a month or $299 a year. It's required for the first 12 months, so your first-year Pod cost tops $3,200. Accessories include a heat-dissipating pillow at $199, a Pod Protector at $119 and a Sleep Essentials Bundle at $415. That bundle holds a sheet set, protector and two pillows, and the brand claims a $200 saving. Affirm and Klarna financing is referenced, with 0% to 36% APR subject to eligibility.

It's defensible only as a sleep-tech system for hot sleepers who'll use the automation daily. As a standalone mattress, the Premium is poor value. You get one model, a short trial and thin specs versus mainstream bed-in-a-box rivals.

What are the mattresses made of?

The Premium Mattress is a 5-layer all-foam build, marketed as breathable and supportive to pair with the Cover. The brand doesn't publish layer types, densities, ILDs, cover fabric or fire barrier details (checked September 2026).

The Pod 5 Cover is a fitted 1 in water-circulating cover plus an under-bed Hub and app software. Options include an elevating Base, blanket and pillow covers. The brand doesn't publish textiles, tube materials or coolant specs. It also doesn't publish CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX, GOTS, GOLS or Greenguard certification for either product.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The Pod line has a standard 2-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects in normal home use. Direct buyers with a qualifying Autopilot Enhanced or Elite membership can extend it to 5 years. A 1-year term applies to the original Smart Bed.

The mattress page doesn't state a standalone Premium Mattress warranty or sag threshold. The brand doesn't publish care guidance, weight limits, foundation needs, expected lifespan or independent durability testing (checked September 2026). The company has operated since 2014, and warranty terms name Pod 3, Pod 4 and Pod 5. That history is brand-reported.

Customer reviews and complaints

The brand's reviews page shows a 4.5 score based on 30,215 reviews. Excerpts praise dual-zone climate for couples, relief from overheating, sweating and hot flashes, sleep tracking and auto-adjustment. The excerpt shows no complaints.

We found no independent Trustpilot, BBB or Google ratings, and no complaint specifics on subscriptions, leaks, reliability or support (checked September 2026). The biggest caveat comes from the brand's own terms. Autopilot is required for the first 12 months, so you can't use the system plan-free in year one.

Where can you try and buy?

You can buy direct only, at eightsleep.com, including the Premium Mattress page, Pod cover page, accessories and reviews. We found no showrooms, dealers or third-party retail listings (Amazon or mattress chains) as of September 2026.

The live product pages are the Premium Mattress and Pod cover. The brand's Pod 5 Ultra and Pod 4 Ultra pages didn't load. The brand doesn't publish phone ordering, live chat or trial-room details beyond standard site navigation.

Delivery, setup and removal

The homepage advertises free shipping in 35-plus countries. An archived copy of the brand's site from 2026 showed orders shipping in a Jul 6 to Jul 13 window. The brand doesn't publish cost tiers, transit times, tracking or geographic exclusions (checked September 2026).

The Cover fits your existing mattress, which is 1 in thick, so you don't need to swap beds. It pairs with a Hub unit and the app. The brand doesn't publish step-by-step setup, mattress expansion or off-gassing guidance, white-glove setup or old-mattress removal.

Sleep trial and returns

You get a 30-night risk-free trial on both the Premium Mattress and the Pod. The brand says you can enjoy it at home and return it for a full refund if you don't love it. Returns are free.

The brand doesn't publish return steps, the trial start date, refund timing, exchanges or fees (checked September 2026). Thirty nights is short against the 100-plus night norm of mainstream bed-in-a-box brands. Confirm the trial start date, the Pod water-drainage return steps and whether membership fees are refundable before you buy.

Warranty

The official warranty page gives a standard 2-year limited warranty on manufacturing defects in normal home use, with free repair or replacement. The original Smart Bed has 1 year. The 2-year terms cover Pod Pro, Pod Pro Max, Pod Pro Cover, Pod 3, Pod 4, Pod 5, Pod 5 Blanket and Pod 5 Base.

Direct buyers with a qualifying plan, such as Autopilot Enhanced or Elite at checkout, can extend it to 5 years. Commercial use, misuse, comfort preference and consumables are excluded. The brand doesn't publish a standalone Premium Mattress warranty or indentation threshold (checked September 2026).

Eight Sleep vs. other brands

Against Sleepme ChiliPad and Dolce, Eight Sleep wins on dual-zone automation, biometric tracking and app intelligence. Rivals compete on lower buy-in cost. Against BedJet, it wins on silent water-based dual-zone cooling plus tracking. BedJet-style air systems compete on simplicity.

Against Tempur-Pedic and Saatva, those brands win as mattress-only buys. They have broader model ranges, longer trials and published mattress warranties. Eight Sleep wins only if you're a hot sleeper who wants active temperature technology. Pod 5 is the live flagship, and Pod 4 pages didn't load as of September 2026.

How we put this review together

Quick answers before you buy

Is Eight Sleep still selling mattresses?

Yes, one model. The Premium Mattress ($1,899) is listed as of September 2026. It's positioned as a companion to the Pod Cover, not a standalone lineup.

Is the Pod a mattress or a cover?

It's a Hub-plus-cover system. It adds dual-zone cooling to 55F and heating to 110F on top of your existing mattress. The 1 in Cover needs no mattress swap.

What does the Pod really cost?

Hardware points run $2,799 to $3,199. You'll also pay a mandatory first-12-month Autopilot plan (Enhanced $25 a month or $299 a year). That pushes true first-year cost above $3,200.

How long is the trial and warranty?

You get a 30-night risk-free trial with free returns. The Pod has a 2-year limited warranty, extendable to 5 years with a qualifying membership.

Can I use the Pod without a subscription?

Not in year one. The brand's terms require an Autopilot plan for the first 12 months.

Where can I try one?

We found no showrooms or retail partners. You buy direct from eightsleep.com, and the 30-night home trial is your try-before-you-buy path.
