Beds By Design Mattress Review

Beds By Design is a factory-direct mattress maker, founded in 2005. It builds beds on-site in Sioux Falls, Fargo and Denver, with about 20 models from $199 to $5,899. The families are Easy, Cloud, Performance, Ultra and Executive. The hook is lifetime trade-in plus comfort adjustments with free labor. But there's no published sleep trial, and the official terms say all purchases are non-refundable. You'll want to try the bed in a store first.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

Side sleepers should look at the Ultra family (Destiny, Mystery, Ultra Comfort, Luna, Mirage) and the soft-topped Performance models (Pristine, Serene, softness level 6). They're built around Duron, OmniFlow and Synergy pressure relief. Liberty (softness 8) is the plushest flagship pick.

Back sleepers who want zoned lumbar support can try Cloud 9, Cirrus and Destiny (support level 6, middle-ground feel). Revolution and Independence add firmer, high-support options. For stomach sleepers, the firmer picks are Stratus (softness 1), Easy Comfort (softness 1) and Independence (support 8). The brand doesn't publish stomach-sleeper guidance (checked September 2026).

Hot sleepers can look at the Performance and Executive lines. They cite OmniFlow cooling, Temperature Response Control and breathable Duron. No independent cooling test data is published. Heavier sleepers should look at Executive models with support levels 7 to 8 and lifetime-warrantied QuadCore, Synergy and Energy cores. Weight limits, coil counts and gauges aren't published.

The brand explicitly markets Ultra and Executive builds for fibromyalgia, back, shoulder and hip pain.

Mattress prices and value

Starting prices, twin-equivalent, on bedsbydesign.net in September 2026. Easy Comfort is $199, Perfect Comfort $299 and Supreme Comfort $399. Stratus is $499, Cirrus $599 and Cloud 9 $699. Inspire is $1,099, Refresh $1,199, Pristine $1,599 and Serene $1,599.

Destiny is $2,599, Ultra Comfort $2,599, Mystery $2,799, Prestige $2,799, Luna $2,999 and Mirage $4,199. Revolution is $5,199, Independence $5,499, Koolisimo $5,799 and Liberty $5,899. Prestige II is out of stock with no price. OmniBed is $2,599 on the series page, though its product page was down.

Sizes run Twin through California King, plus custom shapes. Box-spring add-ons run $225 to $599 by size, and adjustable bases run $599 to $3,498. Financing is advertised from $35 a month.

The brand claims factory-direct prices up to 50% under comparable retail. It says a $1,000 name-brand bed costs it $400 to $500 to build. You can't verify the value against rivals without trial terms, delivered per-size pricing and independent durability data.

What are the mattresses made of?

Named core systems include the Traditional Coil System, an offset innerspring with 500 to 1000 coils. There's also the exclusive QuadCoil (QuadCore) pocketed coil, with a zoned-center option. Comfort foams are Hyper-Support and Hypersift, plus high and low-density Duron foam.

Other layers are Synergy Core, DuraMax and Energy Core self-conforming materials, and OmniFlow, a capsule-based pressure-relief layer. There's also TRC Temperature Response Control, a Perfor-Max support layer and Dura edge with non-slip decking. Zippered quilts allow in-house adjustment access.

Softness and support levels are published per model. Cirrus is 3 and 3, Liberty is 8 and 7, and Independence is 4 and 8. All materials are stated as US-sourced with no harmful chemicals.

The brand doesn't publish CertiPUR-US, GOTS, GOLS, OEKO-TEX or Greenguard certifications. It also doesn't publish foam densities, ILDs, latex content, coil counts, coil gauges or fire-barrier details (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Component warranties run 10 years for Traditional Coil and Hypersift. They run 20 years for Duron and OmniFlow, and LIFE for QuadCore pocketed spring, Synergy Core and Energy Core. DuraMax is 30 years. Basic mattresses carry a 10-year warranty, and Performance models cite 15 years.

The FAQ says typical retail beds lose support in 3 to 4 years, while these builds last up to 30 years. Post-warranty adjustments are available for materials cost only. Rotate head-to-toe every other month the first year, then 3 to 4 times yearly. Don't machine-wash the zippered quilts. You'll need a proper frame, with 5 or more legs for King, Queen and Full, a rigid center support and 5 or more slats. Use a protector.

The brand doesn't publish independent durability testing or expected-lifespan data (checked September 2026).

Customer reviews and complaints

On-site reviews are nearly absent. Most model pages show zero reviews. Destiny shows one 5-star review (Melissa, SD, March 2018: favorite bed ever purchased). Revolution shows one 5-star review (Ryan H, MN, March 2018: best mattress ever, better than Leesa and Casper, helped his back).

The site widget shows Google 4.5 stars from 5 reviews. Listed awards are Best Furniture 2013 and Best Mattress Store 2012/13, 2014/15 and 2016/17. The brand cites pro athletes as customers. They are Connor McGovern of the Denver Broncos and Matt Cullen, a Penguins Stanley Cup champion. It also cites country star Steve Azar.

We found no scores from BBB, Yelp or full Google review text, and no model-level complaint patterns (checked September 2026). The Koolisimo and Refresh pages say more info is coming soon.

Where can you try and buy?

You can try beds in store. Sioux Falls, SD is at 2720 S. Louise Ave. 57106 (605-371-2337). Fargo, ND is at 4505 13th Ave. S 58103 (701-281-2337). Denver/Centennial, CO is at 7400 S University Blvd 80122 (303-220-6283). Showrooms stock standard sizes and build in on-site shops of 10,000+ sq ft.

You can also buy on bedsbydesign.net, with size and base options at add-to-cart. The brand sells OmniPillow, bedding, pet beds and Tesla car beds ($300). Commercial, bulk and custom sizes for boats, campers, RVs, semis and odd shapes go through info@bedsbydesign.net. The old domain bedsbydesign.com was unreachable in September 2026. bedsbydesign.net is the live official site.

Delivery, setup and removal

Showroom pickup is typically within a couple of hours for stocked standard sizes. Local home delivery in the Fargo, Sioux Falls and Denver areas costs a nominal charge. It includes in-home setup, plus old mattress and box-spring removal at no extra charge. Nationwide shipping is offered, with deliveries cited from Arizona to Maine and typical turnaround of 1 to 3 days.

The brand doesn't publish delivery fees, scheduling windows, tracking or coverage maps (checked September 2026). Contact the nearest store for quotes. Delivery includes setup of the mattress. Adjustable-base setup, stair-carry rules and out-of-area disposal terms aren't published.

Sleep trial and returns

No night-count trial is published on the FAQ, shipping, warranty or product pages (checked September 2026). The warranty page says all purchases are non-refundable.

Instead, the Comfort Commitment offers lifetime feel adjustments, softer, firmer or more supportive, with all labor waived. Bring the mattress to the store, allow 30 days between adjustments for break-in, and pay transportation plus materials only.

The trade-in program has run since 2015. You can upgrade to the same size and pay the price difference. Or you can upgrade across sizes, with the old bed credited at 50% of original price toward the new bed. Restocking, return-shipping and adjustment material fees aren't published. Confirm all terms in writing before you buy.

Warranty

Each layer carries its own term. Traditional Coil is 10 years and Hypersift is 10 years. QuadCore pocketed spring is LIFE, Duron soft and firm is 20 years, and Synergy Core is LIFE. OmniFlow is 20 years, Energy Core is LIFE and DuraMax is 30 years.

It covers manufacturing defects under normal wear. That means body indentations over 1 inch, loose, broken or protruding coils, and edges sagging 1 inch or more. It also covers box-spring wire, frame-split and beam defects. You'll need a proper foundation and frame. The brand recommends its protector and box springs for full coverage.

It excludes the wrong foundation or frame, abuse, moving damage, excess weight, stains, burns, height or sheet fit, transport costs and comfort preference. Service replaces the failed component, not the whole bed. Claim steps, registration and labor-fee schedules aren't published.

Beds By Design vs. other brands

Against Sealy Posturepedic, the brand points you to Cloud or Performance models. That's Stratus $499, Cirrus $599, Cloud 9 $699, and Inspire, Refresh, Serene and Pristine. It claims zoned QuadCoil support and OmniFlow cooling at big savings. Against Sealy Black, it counters with the Executive series, Revolution and Independence.

Against Tempur-Pedic, it points you to Liberty or OmniBed. Against Simmons, Stearns and Foster and Sleep Number, it suggests Cloud 9, Ultra Comfort or Revolution first. Its general pitch is US-made foams with no harmful chemicals, factory-direct savings up to 50%, local support and lifetime adjustability the nationals won't do.

The brand doesn't publish independent head-to-head testing to verify these claims (checked September 2026).
