The 30-second verdict

No, most buyers should pass. The catch is cost. Bear's value pick is Bear Original. For a non-Bear option, DreamCloud Classic Hybrid has a Queen price of $699.00; the Bear's Queen list price is $3,041.00. Sleep Foundation says all three firmness levels did well in its temperature tests, but that result alone may not justify the spend. Buy it only if cooling matters enough to choose this bed at its list price.

How firm is the Elite Ultra Hybrid, and which firmness should you pick?

Bear's fit notes point to Soft for lighter side sleepers, Medium for side or back sleepers, and Firm for stomach or heavier back sleepers. Bear rates Soft 5/10, Medium 6/10, and Firm 7/10. Medium is its most popular option.

Outside testers report separate readings: Sleep Foundation lists medium (5), medium firm (6), and firm (8); RTINGS gives the Medium version a reading of 49 Pa/mm; NapLab scores its medium-firm version 6 out of 10. Their labels and scales differ, so do not treat them as direct matches for Bear's options. Use Bear's fit notes to choose, and read each tester's result on its own terms.

Feel & Fit

Is the Elite Ultra Hybrid right for your sleep position and body weight?

The Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid can suit side, back, and stomach sleepers, but fit depends on weight and version. NapLab marks the Medium version as a fit for all three positions under 150 lbs.

  • For side sleepers above 230 lbs, Sleep Foundation gives the firmest model 7/10 and says this group enjoyed its supportive surface.
  • For back sleepers above 230 lbs, Sleep Foundation gives the firm model 6.5/10 and says it was popular with this group.
  • For stomach sleepers above 230 lbs, Sleep Foundation gives it 5.5/10. That is the lowest of these scores, but Sleep Foundation says the firm model was popular with this group.

Sleep Foundation scores edge support 7/10. If you sit or sleep near the edge, weigh that score alongside the position and weight results when choosing.

Feel & Fit

Is the Elite Ultra Hybrid good for back pain?

Yes, Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid is worth considering for back pain, but that is not a promise of pain relief.

Bear says its five-zone coil core provides structure, stability, and enhanced lumbar support. That is the brand's claim, not a guarantee of how your back will feel.

RTINGS.com names it the best mattress for back pain in its testing. Sleep Foundation also lists it as a best mattress for back pain. Treat those reviews as a reason to consider it, not proof it will ease your pain.

How cool or hot does it sleep?

Sleep Foundation found all three firmness levels performed well in temperature regulation tests, a positive sign if heat worries you, though it cannot promise you will feel cool. Bear lists a quilted Celliant® infrared cover, a CoolForce™ PCM layer in the cooling quilt foam, copper-infused memory foam, microcoils, and an 8-inch, five-zone coil core. It also describes the hybrid as naturally breathable. NapLab recorded a baseline of 75.8° F, a starting reading rather than proof of how cool you will sleep.

Will you feel your partner move?

Outside testing points to strong motion isolation, but it cannot promise you will not feel your partner move. NapLab measured motion transfer at a 9.89 m/s² acceleration range. It measured bounce on its own, at 8.94 in total bounce height. RTINGS.com rated motion isolation 8.1 and bounciness 7.4. Sleep Foundation rated motion isolation 8.5/10 and called motion isolation and pressure relief standout features. For a light sleeper with a restless partner, these results are encouraging, but you may still notice movement; they do not guarantee undisturbed sleep.

Sizes, heights and prices: is it worth the money?

A Queen lists at $3,041.00. That is $757 more than the Queen Elite Hybrid, one step down, at $2,284. For the extra money you get the CoolForce layer built in, where the Elite Hybrid sells it as an add-on, plus microcoils. Pick the Ultra only if those upgrades matter to you. The bed is 13.5 inches tall.

Build & Safety

How is the Elite Ultra Hybrid built, and what is it made of?

The Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid uses a layered foam-and-coil build. Its materials run top to bottom:

  • Quilted Celliant® Infrared Cover: Bear says its fabric has fibers that convert excess body heat into infrared energy.
  • Cooling Quilt Foam: Cushioning quilt foam with a CoolForce™ Layer.
  • Copper-Infused Memory Foam: Memory foam infused with copper. Bear says copper adds a cooling effect.
  • Microcoils: Steel coils, each wrapped in fabric.
  • Responsive Comfort Foam.
  • Dynamic Transition Foam: Conventional foam joins the comfort system and support core.
  • Zoned Ascension Coils: The core is 8 inches thick. It has individually wrapped coils, five support zones, and reinforced edge coils.
  • DuraDense Base Foam: High-density foundational foam.

Bear says the mattress is assembled in the USA. Queen dimensions are 60"W x 80"L x 13.5"H, and it weighs 115 lb. Check the room and frame, and plan how to move it.

GREENGUARD Gold covers the mattress; CertiPUR-US® covers the foam.

No. Bear says the Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid is fiberglass-free.

What bed base does it need?

Choose a firm, flat platform with slats less than 5.5 inches apart, or a matching adjustable base; Bear lists box springs as not compatible. Bear says an adjustable base must support the mattress and sleepers and sit in a proper bed frame. Sag or indentation from an improper or unsupportive adjustable base is not covered by the warranty. For a metal frame, add a supportive foundation or base. The floor is an exception; keep airflow and use a level, evenly supportive surface.

How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?

RTINGS.com gives this bed a longevity score of 6.2; Bear says its one-sided build should not be flipped, and rotation is optional. RTINGS.com calls its durability mediocre. The score is not a lifespan in years, so treat it as a caution, not a service-life promise.

If you rotate it, Bear says to turn it 180 degrees every 6 months; this may help keep the bed fresh longer. Bear says you can request a free return after its 30-night break-in period if you are not satisfied.

Delivery, setup and old mattress removal

Bear says the bed ships free to the US lower 48 states in a compressed, rolled box sent by FedEx. Most orders ship within 5 to 8 business days, but FedEx transit time varies by destination.

Bear lists setup at a $194 base fee plus $25 per mattress. Bear says old mattress removal is included with In-Home Setup & Removal by Ryder when offered at checkout in your area. You can also add removal after delivery through a partner.

Trials, returns and fees

Bear says the return fee is Free, with no restocking or process and handling fees. The trial lasts 365 nights. Bear allows return requests after a break-in of 30 nights if you're unsatisfied, before the trial ends. After Brooklyn Bedding LLC confirms removal, Bear refunds the full mattress cost, less any discounts, to the original form of payment. One mattress exchange within 365 nights of delivery is allowed for a new model or different feel. Only one return or exchange is allowed per customer, household and address. The exchanged mattress cannot be returned, refunded or given a trial period. Closeout, Clearance, Final Sale, Factory Clearance and older dated model mattresses are excluded.

What does the warranty cover, and what voids it?

Bear says its limited lifetime warranty covers visible indentation greater than 1.5 inches on mattresses bought starting 02/01/2025, but removing the cover voids it. An improper base with slats more than 5.5 inches apart also voids it. Bear does not cover stains or liquid damage.

Claim needs proof of purchase. Bear ships the replacement at no cost in years 1 to 10. After year 10, you pay the replacement charge: 50 percent in years 11 to 15, 60 percent in years 16 to 20, and 75 percent of the then current retail price in year 21 and later.

How does the Elite Ultra Hybrid compare?

Bear's siblings are the first comparison, with different picks for value, hybrid support, all-foam feel, and natural materials. Bear recommends Elite Hybrid for balanced pressure relief, cooling options, and deep zoned support. It points value seekers to Original, and shoppers seeking hybrid comfort and support at Bear's stated low price to Original Hybrid. Bear suggests Pro Foam for couples who prefer an all-foam feel, and Natural for organic cotton and natural latex.

For an innerspring, choose Saatva Classic. Sleep Foundation scores Saatva Classic 9.5/10 and Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid 8.8/10. Sleep Foundation names Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid Best Value and scores it 9.0/10. It lists hot sleepers among CopperFlex's best-fit groups.
