The 30-Second Verdict: Quick Summary

No, Bear is not the best buy for most shoppers. The Elite Hybrid is the Bear most buyers will look at, and it costs $2,284 for a Queen. The Saatva Classic costs $2,229 for a Queen, which is $55 less. It is a luxury innerspring with over 1,000 recycled steel coils, a 3 in Euro pillow top and three firmness levels. That gives you a bigger coil bed for less money.

If you want other picks by need, Loom & Leaf is $3,179 for a deep memory foam hug. Zenhaven is $3,699 for natural latex. Saatva HD is $3,639 if you weigh over 250 lb. For a budget pick, the Casper Dream Hybrid is $1,495 for a Queen, which is $789 less than the Elite Hybrid.

Bear still wins on trial length. It gives you 365 nights at home, and a return has no restocking or handling fees. The Casper Dream has a 100 night trial. All seven core Bear beds are also fiberglass free.

Buy it only if you want a full year to test the bed at home and plan to use that trial.

Key Strengths
  • A full year to decide. The trial is 365 nights, and a return has no restocking or handling fees. You must sleep on the bed 30 nights before you can start a return.
  • Free fixes for 10 years. The limited lifetime warranty repairs or replaces a defective mattress at no cost in years 1 to 10. After that, you pay 50 percent of the current price in years 11 to 15.
  • No fiberglass in the fire barrier. Bear uses fire-resistant fabric instead of fiberglass or sprayed chemicals, so loose glass fibers are not a worry.
Good to Know
  • You wait about a week. Most orders ship within 5 to 8 business days. Then FedEx delivery time depends on where you live.
  • Setup costs extra. In-home setup and removal by Ryder is a $194 base fee. You can skip it, but a Queen weighs 80 lb.
  • It can feel firm. Sleepopolis rated the Medium a 7 out of 10, which is firmer than average. It says side sleepers under 130 pounds may find it too firm.
Chapter 01

Is Bear the best mattress for you?

Four outlets scored Bear, but they tested one of two beds: the all-foam Original or the Elite Hybrid. Read every score with its bed in mind.

Outside review scores
Review sites checked: 4 outlets. Their scores: 4.2 to 7.8, on two scales. Model they tested: Bear Original and Elite Hybrid. Each site tests in its own way, so read each row on its own.

No, not for most buyers. The Elite Hybrid costs $2,284 for a Queen. The Saatva Classic costs $2,229 for a Queen, so Bear costs $55 more. The Classic is a coil bed with three firmness levels. Bear still wins on its 365-night trial, with free returns after the first 30 nights.

Sleep Foundation

Sleep Foundation praised the firm, supportive foam and the low price. It tested the 10 inch all-foam Original, not a hybrid.

4.2 out of 5
Mattress Clarity

Mattress Clarity liked the Original on the back and for motion isolation. It may not suit lightweight side sleepers.

4.6 out of 5
Sleepopolis

Sleepopolis tested the Elite Hybrid in Medium. It praised coil support and cooling, but said strict side sleepers under 130 pounds may find it too firm.

When Bear makes sense
  • You want a long trial: Bear gives you 365 nights, and a return has no restocking or handling fee.

  • You share a bed: Mattress Clarity praised the motion isolation of the Original.
  • You want to try it in person: Bear has partner showrooms across the U.S. Call ahead to check that your model is on the floor.
When Another Mattress May Suit You Better

  • You want a deep memory foam hug: Saatva Loom & Leaf has a 5-lb memory foam core and costs $3,179 for a Queen.
  • You want a hybrid on a budget: the Casper Dream Hybrid costs $1,495 for a Queen, against $1,855 for the Pro Hybrid.

Reading the scores

Why we don't average the scores

The outlets tested the Original or the Elite Hybrid and score in their own ways, so do not compare scores across rows. We show each one on its own and never blend them into one number.

Each score comes from that outlet's own review. Prices, models and policies can change after a review.
Chapter 02

Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you

Why this matters to you: A wrong feel costs you sleep for months. Too firm and your shoulders and hips ache. Too soft and your middle sags. Bear sells feels from 5/10 to 7/10, so pick by weight first, then by sleep position.

Bear's best pick shifts as your weight goes up, so match the model to your weight band first. The scores below are Sleep Foundation's fit scores out of 10.

  • Under 130 lb: the Elite Hybrid at feel 5 scores 8.5 for side sleepers. Bear Natural scores 9.5 for back sleepers.
  • 130 to 230 lb: the Elite Hybrid at feel 6 scores 9.0 for side sleepers. Bear Natural also scores 9.0 for back sleepers.
  • Over 230 lb: the Pro Hybrid scores 9.0 for side sleepers. Bear Natural drops to 8.0 for back sleepers and 7.0 for stomach sleepers.

Compare the mattresses

Why this matters to you: The build sets the feel and the price. Queen prices run from $998 for all foam to $3,041 for a cooling hybrid. Pick the build first, then the model that fits your budget.

Bear sells seven mattresses, and Queen prices run from $998 to $3,041. The table lines up build, height, feel and price.

Start with the build. The Bear Original is all foam and starts at $998. The Original Hybrid ($1,284) adds coils for $286 more. The Elite Hybrid ($2,284) and the Elite Ultra Hybrid ($3,041) both come in Soft, Medium and Firm.

The brand says the Elite Ultra Hybrid includes a cooling layer for hot sleepers. The Bear Natural ($2,427) has a natural latex layer. All seven are fiberglass free.

Construction Hybrid (foam + coils)
Profile 14 inches
Firmness Soft 5/10, Medium 6/10, Firm 7/10
Queen $ $2,284
Zoned Ascension Coils 8 inch coils, five support zones

The Elite Hybrid is the brand's most popular choice, a 14 inch hybrid with three firmness options. Foam layers sit over an 8 inch coil core with five support zones and reinforced edges. The brand says its copper-infused memory foam pulls heat away from your body.

It sits in the middle of the lineup at $2,284 for a Queen. The Pro Hybrid is the step down at $1,855, so you save $429. The Elite Ultra Hybrid is the step up at $3,041, so you pay $757 more. That extra money buys a cooling layer that comes built in. On the Elite it is optional.

The caution is firmness. Sleepopolis rated the Medium 7/10, which it calls firmer than average. It says strict side sleepers under 130 pounds may find it too firm. One 1-star buyer review on Bear's site says the top foam softened fast. Light side sleepers should look at the Soft 5/10. Sleep Foundation found the 5 model best for side sleepers under 130 pounds.

Best For

  • You want a 365-night trial on a bed this size. Returns have no restocking fee.
  • You sleep on your side and weigh 130 to 230 lb. Sleep Foundation gives it a 9.0/10 fit score for that group.
  • You sleep on your back, stomach, or both. Sleepopolis calls it ideal for those sleepers and scores it 4.6 out of 5.

Consider Instead If

  • You want to spend less: the Pro Hybrid costs $429 less at $1,855, and the brand rates it 6/10.
  • You sleep hot: the Elite Ultra Hybrid includes the cooling layer, for $757 more.
  • Price is the first limit: the Casper Dream Hybrid is $1,495 for a Queen, which is $789 less.

The Elite Ultra Hybrid is Bear's top bed, with a cooling layer built in. Bear calls it its most advanced mattress. It stacks cooling quilt foam, copper-infused memory foam and microcoils over an 8-inch zoned coil core. It is 13.5 inches thick. You can pick Soft 5/10, Medium 6/10 or Firm 7/10.

A Queen costs $3,041. The Elite Hybrid one step down costs $2,284, so the Ultra adds $757. That money buys the CoolForce layer, which is included here and optional there. It also buys the microcoils. No Bear model sits above it. Bear Natural, the latex bed, costs $2,427 and is $614 less.

Sleepopolis tested the Elite Hybrid in Medium and gave it 4.6 out of 5 on October 8, 2026. It rated that bed 7/10, firmer than average. It said strict side sleepers under 130 pounds may find it too firm. If you are a lighter side sleeper, lean toward the Soft 5/10 feel.

Best For

  • You sleep hot and want a cooling layer included, not sold as an add-on.
  • You want three firmness choices, from Soft 5/10 to Firm 7/10, in Bear's top build.
  • You want a long test: Bear gives 365 nights with no return fees, while the Casper Dream Hybrid gives 100.

Consider Instead If

  • You want to save money: the Elite Hybrid costs $757 less for a Queen, and CoolForce is optional there.
  • You want natural latex: Bear Natural costs $2,427, which is $614 less.
  • You want a classic coil bed: the Saatva Classic costs $2,229 for a Queen, which is $812 less, with three firmness levels.
  • You want a budget pick with springs and foam: the Casper Dream Hybrid costs $1,495 for a Queen, which is $1,546 less.

The Pro Foam is an all-foam bed with no coils. Gel swirl memory foam sits under extra quilted foam, over 5 inches of high-density base foam. Bear rates it 6.5-7/10, which is medium-firm. It is 12 inches thick, and the brand says the gel helps it sleep cool.

Two Bear beds sit close to it in price. The Bear Original is $998 for a Queen and 10 inches thick. The Pro Hybrid adds coils for $1,855. That puts the Pro Foam $429 above the Original and $428 below the Pro Hybrid.

Here is the caution. Mattress Clarity tested the Bear Original, not this model. It said that bed may not suit lightweight side sleepers or anyone who wants a deep, sinking feel. If you want a deep hug, look at another bed.

Best For

  • You want an all-foam bed and a lower price: it costs $428 less than the Pro Hybrid.
  • You like a firm-leaning feel: Bear rates it 6.5-7/10.
  • You want extra quilted foam and 2 more inches of height than the Original, for $429 more.

Consider Instead If

  • You want a lifted, bouncy feel; the Pro Hybrid adds an 8 inch coil core for $428 more.
  • You want a deep memory foam hug; Saatva Loom & Leaf has a 5-lb memory foam core at $3,179, which is $1,752 more.
  • You want to spend less; the Bear Original is $998, which is $429 less.

The Pro Hybrid is a medium-firm foam and coil bed that feels lifted, not sunk in. Gel memory foam sits over an 8 inch core of TitanCore coils with thicker 13.5 gauge springs. The brand says the coils make it easy to change position. It stands 13 inches tall and the brand rates it 6/10. Sleep Foundation gives it 9.0 out of 10 for side sleepers over 230 lb.

It sits in the middle of the lineup at $1,855 for a Queen. The Original Hybrid is one step down at $1,284. It has 6 inch coils and stands 11 inches tall, and it costs $571 less. The Elite Hybrid is one step up at $2,284. It has zoned coils and comes in three firmness levels. It costs $429 more.

One caution is the base. Use a flat, sturdy base with slats no more than 5.5 inches apart. Bear says wider gaps void the warranty, and it lists a box spring as not compatible.

Best For

  • You weigh over 230 lb and sleep on your side. Sleep Foundation gives it a 9.0 out of 10 fit score for that group.
  • You want coil bounce under memory foam and like to shift easily at night.
  • You want a 13 inch bed with thick 13.5 gauge coils and can spend $1,855 for a Queen, $429 less than the Elite Hybrid.

Consider Instead If

  • You weigh under 130 lb and sleep on your side. The Elite Hybrid has a Soft 5/10 choice, and Sleep Foundation gives its medium (5) an 8.5 out of 10 fit score for that group.
  • You sleep hot and want a cooling layer built in. The Elite Ultra Hybrid includes the CoolForce layer, at $3,041 for a Queen.
  • You want to spend less. The Casper Dream Hybrid is $1,495 for a Queen, $360 below the Pro Hybrid.

The Original is Bear's lowest-priced mattress, at $998 for a Queen. It is a 10 inch all-foam bed. Gel swirl memory foam sits over a high-density base. Bear rates it 6.5-7/10, which is medium-firm.

It is the bottom of the lineup, so there is no step down. The Original Hybrid adds a wrapped coil core for $286 more ($1,284). The 12 inch Pro Foam costs $429 more ($1,427).

Sleep Foundation scored it 7.8 out of 10 on the firm (7) feel. Its cons list names edge sagging and less contouring for some sleepers. Mattress Clarity gave it 4.2 out of 5 and says lightweight side sleepers may want a softer bed.

Best For

  • You want a Bear under $1,000 with a memory foam feel.
  • You sleep on your back; Mattress Clarity testers loved how it felt on their backs.
  • You share the bed; Mattress Clarity praised its motion isolation, so a partner's moves should wake you less.

Consider Instead If

  • You want coils and more airflow; the Original Hybrid ($1,284) has a wrapped coil core for $286 more.
  • You are a side sleeper under 130 lbs; Sleep Foundation found the Medium (5) Elite Hybrid ($2,284) fit best, with an 8.5/10 score.
  • You want a thicker all-foam bed; the Pro Foam is 12 inches tall and costs $429 more ($1,427).

The Original Hybrid is Bear's entry coil bed, at $1,284 for a Queen. It is 11 inches tall and rated 6/10, which is medium-firm. Gel swirl memory foam sits over a 6 inch core of individually wrapped springs. The brand says the springs add airflow and a more responsive feel than its all-foam Original.

The step down is the all-foam Bear Original at $998, so coils cost $286 more. The step up is the Pro Hybrid at $1,855. It has thicker 13.5 gauge springs for $571 more. The Elite Hybrid at $2,284 adds a Soft 5/10 option and costs $1,000 more.

One caution: the base. Bear says no box spring. Use a firm, flat base with slats no more than 5.5 inches apart, or the warranty is void. Buyers also report that foam can soften and leave a firmer bed, so use the 365-night trial to test the feel.

Best For

  • You want coils for airflow and a medium-firm 6/10 feel at $1,284.
  • You want a fiberglass-free bed with CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold marks.
  • You want a hybrid but would rather skip the $571 jump to the Pro Hybrid.

Consider Instead If

  • You want a soft feel. The Elite Hybrid comes in Soft 5/10 for $1,000 more.
  • You want thicker coils. The Pro Hybrid has 8 inch springs for $571 more.
  • You want all foam. The Bear Original costs $998, which is $286 less.

Bear Natural, product photo

Bear Natural, natural latex hybrid
Construction Latex hybrid
Profile 13 inches
Firmness Medium-firm
Queen $ $2,427
Comfort layer 100% natural latex

The Bear Natural is Bear's latex hybrid. It has an organic cotton cover, a natural latex comfort layer and zoned coils underneath. It is 13 inches thick and comes in one feel, medium-firm. The brand says the latex is 100% natural and the cotton yarn is GOTS certified organic.

It is the second priciest model in the lineup. At $2,427 for a Queen, it costs $143 more than the Elite Hybrid ($2,284) and $614 less than the Elite Ultra Hybrid ($3,041). The Pro Hybrid is $572 cheaper at $1,855. Pay the extra only if you want latex and organic cotton in your bed.

Sleep Foundation's fit scores for this bed fall as body weight rises. Stomach sleepers score 9.0 under 130 lbs, 8.0 from 130 to 230 lbs, and 7.0 over 230 lbs. Back sleepers over 230 lbs score 8.0. If you are a heavier stomach sleeper, look at another model first.

Best For

  • You sleep on your back: Sleep Foundation scores it 9.5 under 130 lbs and 9.0 from 130 to 230 lbs.
  • You are a lighter stomach sleeper: it scores 9.0 under 130 lbs with Sleep Foundation.
  • You want natural latex and organic cotton in a fiberglass-free bed with a 365-night trial.

Consider Instead If

  • You want a choice of feel or a lower price: the Elite Hybrid costs $143 less and comes in Soft 5/10, Medium 6/10 and Firm 7/10.
  • You are a side sleeper over 230 lbs: the Pro Hybrid scores 9.0 for you with Sleep Foundation and costs $572 less.
  • You want two feels in one latex bed: the Saatva Zenhaven flips between Luxury Plush (4-5/10) and Gentle Firm (7-8/10), but a Queen is $3,699, which is $1,272 more.

Mattress prices and value

Why this matters to you: A Queen Bear Original costs $998. The top Queen, the Elite Ultra Hybrid, costs $3,041, so choose the model before you choose a size.

Bear Queens run from $998 for the Original to $3,041 for the Elite Ultra Hybrid. Compare the bed's own price first, because the model changes the cost more than the size does.

The size grid shows the Elite Hybrid in the Soft feel without the cooling upgrade. It runs from $1,998 for a Twin to $2,570 for a King or Cal King. A Split King is sold per half, so you order 2 to make a set.

Each step up the line adds one thing. The Original Hybrid adds coils for $286 more than the all-foam Original. The Pro Hybrid costs $428 more than the Pro Foam. The Elite Ultra Hybrid adds the CoolForce cooling layer for $757 more than the Elite Hybrid in a Queen. The $998 Original is the lowest Queen price in the line, so pay more only if a step fixes a problem you have.

Chapter 05

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Why this matters to you: Foam beds soften with use, and a dip can show up long after the trial ends. The warranty terms tell you what Bear will stand behind, so read them before you buy.

For beds bought from 02/01/2025, a dip deeper than 1.5 inches is covered, and years 1 to 10 cost you nothing. After that, you pay a share of the current price.

Bear says its foam is built to hold up as is, and each bed has a dense base foam. The Bear Natural uses 100% natural latex, the brand says. These are maker claims, and so are the cooling lines.

What to watch for, and when:

  • First 24 to 48 hours: the bed needs this long to fully expand after unboxing. Sleep on it once it is fully expanded.
  • Every 6 months: turn the bed 180 degrees. Bear says this is not required, but it can keep the bed fresh longer. Do not flip it, since it is built one-sided.
  • Any time: a dip deeper than 1.5 inches is a claim to file. Keep the cover on, and use a base with slats no more than 5.5 inches apart, or the warranty is void.
  • Year 11 and later: you pay a share of the current price to replace the bed. It starts at 50 percent.

Who owns Bear: 3Z Brands (formerly Brooklyn-Helix, backed by Cerberus Capital Management)

Where sources disagree

  • Owners disagree on softening: one 1-star review from 2026-09-15 says the foam top compressed fast and turned very firm. Other owners praise comfort that holds up.
  • Review sites use different crowds: Bear's own reviews show 4.6 out of 5 for the Elite Hybrid, Trustpilot shows 4.5, and BBB shows 4.56.
  • Testers describe feel differently: Sleepopolis rated the Elite Hybrid Medium 7 out of 10, firmer than average. CNET called its Medium a proper medium.
Chapter 06

Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees

Why this matters to you: You get 365 nights at home, but you must keep the bed at least 30 nights before you can ask for a return. The return costs nothing.

Bear gives you a 365-night trial and charges no return fee. Plan to sleep on the bed for a full month before you can start a return.

  • 365 nights from the day FedEx delivers it.
  • Free return: no restocking or handling fees.
  • Adjustable bases cannot be returned once opened. Foundations and frames get a 30-night trial.

You must sleep on the bed for 30 nights before a return can start. After that, you can ask on any night up to night 365. Bear sets the clock by the FedEx delivery date. Email Bear before night 365 ends, and Bear arranges the pickup. You get a full refund to your original payment method, less any discounts, once the bed is removed and confirmed. Only one return or exchange is allowed per customer, household and address.

You pay nothing for the return. Bear covers the pickup, so you do not have to haul or dump the bed. One catch: if you send back an unopened mattress, the free gifts that came with it must go back too. If they do not, their cost comes off your refund. Closeout, Clearance and Final Sale beds, plus older dated models, cannot be returned at all.

Swapping for another model or feel: you get one exchange within the 365 nights. The new bed gets no return, no refund and no new trial, so pick with care. If you are unsure, a return may be the safer move than a swap. Check the terms on Bear's official site before you order, since policies can change.

Check the terms for your seller and order date before buying from Bear.

Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal

Why this matters to you: Bear ships its mattress rolled in a box by FedEx. A Queen Elite Hybrid weighs 80 lb, and larger sizes may take two people to move, so plan for help.

Most Bear orders ship within 5 to 8 business days. FedEx transit time then depends on where you live. Shipping is free to the lower 48 states.

Bear compresses, vacuum-seals and rolls each mattress into a box. If you do not want to carry it in, add In-Home Setup & Removal by Ryder for a $194 base fee. You pick it at checkout, and it includes taking away your old bed.

Changed your mind after the bed arrives? You can add setup or removal through a Bear partner then.

Typical wait: Most orders ship within 5 to 8 business days; FedEx transit time varies by destination

  1. Order ships: most orders leave within 5 to 8 business days.
  2. FedEx delivers: the rolled box arrives at your address.
  3. Unbox: open the box and let the mattress unroll.
  4. Wait to expand: it is ready to sleep on once fully open, which can take 24 to 48 hours.
  5. Old bed: Ryder setup and removal takes it away if you chose that service.

What do the warranties cover?

Why this matters to you: A lifetime warranty sounds unlimited, but after year 10 you pay 50 to 75 percent of the current price for a replacement. A claim also needs a dip deeper than 1.5 inches and a proper base.

Bear warranty claims come down to how deep the sag is and what the bed sits on. Learn both rules before you buy.

  • Sag rule: a dip deeper than 1.5 inches counts as a defect.
  • Base rule: slats must be no more than 5.5 inches apart, or the warranty is void.
  • Cover rule: if you remove the mattress cover, the claim is void.
  • How long it lasts: Limited lifetime warranty for mattresses purchased starting 02/01/2025
  • How coverage drops over time: No cost to year 10, then 50 to 75 percent of retail
  • Dip depth it covers: Visible indentation greater than 1.5 inches
  • What voids it: A removed cover or a base with wide slats
  • Who pays shipping on a claim: Bear, in years 1 to 10

Review counts checked on each site · counts can change

Customer reviews and complaints

Why this matters to you: Three review pools run by three different parties give three different scores. Read each one on its own to see what owners praise and what goes wrong.

Bear has three separate review pools. On 2026-10-13, Bear's own site showed over 20,000 verified reviews, Trustpilot showed 151 and the BBB showed 211. Read each pool alone.

How we read the reviews
  • We read the review page on bearmattress.com, the Trustpilot profile for bearmattress.com and the BBB customer reviews page on 2026-10-13.
  • We keep each pool apart and never blend their scores into one number.
  • We noted the review count on each page, plus one dated example of praise and one of a complaint.

Bear's site shows 4.6 out of 5 for the Elite Hybrid, listed as Most Popular. Trustpilot shows 4.5 out of 5 from 151 reviews. The BBB profile is for Brooklyn Bedding, with Bear Mattress Brooklyn Bedding LLC as an alternate name. Its customer reviews average 4.56 out of 5 from 211 reviews, and its business rating is A+.

Read each platform on its own: who runs it, its rating scale, how many reviews it has, and the date we checked it.

Reported praise and concerns:

  • What owners like: relief from back and hip pain, firm support that is not hard, and no chemical smell.
  • Delivery and service: Trustpilot and BBB complaints name shipping delays, missing items and hard-to-reach support.
  • Firmness can drift: one 1-star review from 2026-09-15 says the foam top softened fast and the bed felt too firm for side sleeping.

What are the mattresses made of?

Why this matters to you: What is inside decides how the bed feels, how hot it sleeps, and how long it lasts. It also tells you which fire barrier sits under the cover and which safety labels the brand claims.

Bear's seven beds use foam, coils or natural latex. The layers, the cooling parts, the safety labels and the fire barrier below answer your questions on feel, heat and safety.

Two Bear beds are all foam with no coils: Pro Foam and Bear Original. Four are hybrids, which sit foam over a coil core. The Elite Hybrid and Elite Ultra Hybrid use an 8-inch zoned coil core. The Pro Hybrid uses 8-inch TitanCore coils with thicker 13.5 gauge springs. The Original Hybrid uses a 6-inch coil core. Bear Natural adds a natural latex layer and an organic cotton cover over zoned coils. For heat, Bear uses copper-infused or gel swirl memory foam. A CoolForce layer is optional on some models and comes with the Elite Ultra Hybrid. The brand says its mattresses are fiberglass free. The fire barrier is a fabric sock made from non-woven hydrated silica, rayon, polyester and cotton.

Safety labels, and what each one covers

Each label below checks one part of the bed, not the whole thing. Here is what each one covers, and which Bear models carry it.

CertiPUR-US
All seven core mattresses: Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid, Pro Hybrid, Pro Foam, Original Hybrid, Bear Original, Bear Natural
Certified foam meets standards for content, emissions and durability; analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories
GREENGUARD Gold
All seven core mattresses: Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid, Pro Hybrid, Pro Foam, Original Hybrid, Bear Original, Bear Natural
A low-emissions label that limits more than 360 VOCs and total chemical emissions.
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard)
Bear Natural (organic cotton yarn in the cover)
Global standard for certified organic textiles covering environmental criteria, human rights, social criteria and business conduct
eco-INSTITUT-Label
Bear Natural
Tests emissions limit values for critical substances and single substances, including at least the German indoor air guide values RW 1
What these labels do and don't prove

No single label covers the whole bed. CertiPUR-US checks foam. GREENGUARD Gold checks chemical emissions. GOTS checks organic cotton yarn. eco-INSTITUT-Label checks emissions too. GOTS and eco-INSTITUT are listed for Bear Natural, so read which models each label names.

Chapter 11

Where can you try and buy the mattresses?

Why this matters to you: A short lie-down in a store tells you more than a spec sheet. Call ahead to make sure the model you want is on the floor. If a few minutes is not enough, the 365-night home trial gives you months to decide.

Bear sells online at bearmattress.com and through partner showrooms across the U.S. Showrooms may not stock every model, so call ahead before you drive there.

Where it sells: Online at bearmattress.com, plus partner showrooms across the U.S. listed in the brand store locator; Bear also points buyers to The Mattress Shop (themattressshop.com).

Chapter 12

Bear vs. other mattress brands

Why this matters to you: Each card names a rival for one need: a deeper foam hug, latex, coils, bigger bodies, or a lower price. Every price is a Queen, set against the closest Bear model.

Pick a rival for a special need. Saatva's Loom & Leaf is a deep memory foam bed at $3,179. The Casper Dream Hybrid costs $360 less than the Pro Hybrid.

Switch for a deeper sink, a flip-over latex bed, or a bed for bigger bodies. Stay with Bear for its 365-night trial, and for the Original at $998.

Each card pairs one rival with the Bear model closest to it in type. Prices are Queen sizes and reflect what each maker lists for 2026. Pick the card that matches your top need, then read the price gap before you decide.

Memory foam hug
Saatva Loom & Leaf $3,179 (+$1,752 vs Pro Foam)

Quick Answers

Quick Answers Before You Buy

These are the quick answers to practical Bear questions the sections above do not cover. They start with safety and materials, then move to buying and policies.

Prices and deals change fast, so recheck before you buy.

Safety and materials

Do Bear mattresses contain fiberglass?

No, Bear mattresses do not contain fiberglass. Bear uses fire-resistant fabric or fire retardant socks made from a blend of non-woven hydrated silica, rayon, polyester and cotton. The brand says it also skips sprayed chemical flame retardants.

Will a new Bear mattress have a smell?

Bear says its beds have little to no smell. Any scent should be slight, like new sneakers, and should fade within a couple of days. The brand says this is normal for a bed shipped rolled in a box and is not harmful.

What safety tests have been conducted on Bear mattresses?

Bear says its mattresses meet the federal fire rules 16 CFR 1633 and 1632 after extensive fire testing. All seven core models also carry CertiPUR-US foam and GREENGUARD Gold certification, which are claims from the brand.

Can I use an electric blanket with my Bear mattress?

In many cases, yes. Follow the blanket maker's safety rules. Avoid long, hot contact right against the mattress surface, because heat may wear down some foams over time.

Can I put a Bear mattress directly on the floor?

Technically yes, but Bear recommends a frame or foundation. The floor can cut airflow under the bed and trap moisture. Uneven flooring can also change how the bed feels.

Buying and policies

Can you put a Bear mattress on a box spring?

No. Bear does not recommend a traditional coil box spring, because it does not give an even surface for support. Any base with slats more than 5.5 inches apart voids the warranty.

Can I rest a Bear mattress directly on just the bed frame?

No, a bed frame alone is not enough. Use a slatted foundation, platform base, solid foundation or adjustable base. Slats should be at least 2 inches wide and no more than 5.5 inches apart. Poor support may void the warranty.

Do I need to flip a Bear mattress?

No, never flip a Bear mattress. It is built one-sided. Rotating it 180 degrees every 6 months is optional, and Bear says it can help keep the bed fresh.

How does the 365-night risk-free mattress trial work?

You can sleep on it up to 365 nights, but you must give it at least 30. The trial starts on the delivery date, based on FedEx tracking. If you are not happy, Bear arranges pickup and a full refund with no fees.

How can I return my Bear mattress?

Ask for a return between night 30 and night 365. Contact Bear's returns team by email. Only one return is allowed per customer, household and delivery address. The refund goes to your original payment method.

Does it cost me anything to return a mattress?

No, a return costs nothing. Bear charges no restocking or process and handling fees. If you return an unopened mattress, the free promotional products must come back too, or their cost comes off your refund.

Can I exchange my mattress?

Yes, within 365 nights of delivery. You can swap to a different model or firmness. Only one exchange or return is allowed per customer, household and delivery address. The new bed gets no return, refund or extra trial.

Where can I find the warranty for a Bear mattress?

Beds bought on or after 02/01/2025 carry a limited lifetime warranty. In years 1 to 10, Bear repairs or replaces a defective mattress at no cost. After year 10, you pay a share of the current price: 50 percent in years 11 to 15, 60 percent in years 16 to 20, and 75 percent from year 21.

Can I use a Bear mattress on an adjustable base?

Yes, most Bear mattresses work on adjustable bases. That includes the Original, Pro Foam, Original Hybrid, Pro Hybrid, Elite Hybrid, Elite Ultra Hybrid and Natural. Some third-party bases may not fit. Sag caused by an unsupportive base is not covered.

Do I need to let the mattress settle after opening?

You can sleep on it as soon as it fully expands. That can take 24 to 48 hours, depending on how long the bed sat in the box.

How much do Bear mattresses weigh for shipping?

Weight depends on model and size. A Queen weighs 68 lb (Pro Foam) to 115 lb (Elite Ultra Hybrid). Large sizes may need two people to move safely.

Where are Bear mattresses made?

Bear says its mattresses are made in America using foreign and domestic components.

Can I try a Bear mattress in a store before purchasing?

Yes, in some places. Bear partners with showrooms across the U.S., so call ahead to ask about a specific model. You can also try a bed at home for 365 nights and get a full refund if you do not love it.

Bear prices checked Oct 13, 2026. Recheck before buying.
