Airflex Mattress Review

Airflex is McRoskey Mattress Co.'s made-to-order Bay Area collection. It has three double-sided builds: Borrego, Dunsmuir and Inverness, each in Firm or Gentle. They pair pocketed or micro coils with gel memory foam, Serene foam or Talalay latex. Covers use Supima cotton and GOTS-certified wool. The collection starts at $1,799. It's best if you're a Bay Area shopper who wants a flippable handcrafted bed. The brand doesn't publish a trial or warranty (checked September 2026).

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you sleep on your back or stomach and want support, pick a Firm option, especially Dunsmuir Firm or Inverness Firm. Both put latex over coils. If you sleep on your side and want pressure relief, pick Gentle. Inverness Gentle (6 in of Talalay) or Dunsmuir Gentle fit best.

Hot sleepers get 8 brass air vents plus breathable cotton and wool in every model. Latex-heavy Inverness should be the most breathable on paper, but the brand doesn't publish comparative test data. Couples may like pocketed and microcoil units, which should limit motion transfer versus open coils. Confirm in the showroom.

If you need an odd size, all three collections offer custom sizes through a Customer Experience Specialist.

Mattress prices and value

Prices we saw in September 2026 on store.mcroskeysf.com start with Borrego at $1,799 for a twin, mattress only. A queen is $2,499 mattress only, or about $2,999 as a set. Dunsmuir starts at $2,499 for a twin, though the collection page shows From $2,249.00. A Dunsmuir queen is $3,299 mattress only, or $3,798 as a set.

Inverness starts at $2,499 for a twin, mattress only. A queen is $3,999 mattress only, or $4,498 as a set. A 0% APR Wells Fargo financing teaser is shown. Add $16 per piece for the CalRecycle fee.

The value is real handcrafted double-sided construction with premium fills. But the pricing is premium, and there's no published trial or warranty. There are only a few on-site reviews. Negotiate the delivered price and get exchange terms in writing.

What are the mattresses made of?

Every Airflex model shares a California Supima cotton cover and naturally flame-resistant GOTS-certified organic wool. You also get 8 hand-applied brass air vents, 8 box-stitched handles and double-sided mirrored construction. Sizes run Twin through California King, plus custom. Foundations come in 4 in or 9 in heights, and kings are split.

Borrego (13.5 in) uses fabric-encased pocketed coils, with 704 in a queen. It has 3 in of viscose gel memory foam and 2 in of high-density comfort foam. Dunsmuir (15 in) uses fabric-encased pocketed coils, with 1,041 in a queen. It has 3 in of aerated Serene foam and 2 in of natural Talalay latex.

Inverness (14 in) uses SoftTech fabric-encased microcoils with edge support, with 2,706 in a queen. It adds 6 in of natural Talalay latex. The brand doesn't publish foam densities, latex blend or ILD, or the full layer order (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The durability story is double-sided mirrored construction that you flip to even out wear, plus hand-built coil units. McRoskey says handcrafted variance is about plus or minus 1 in on dimensions and height.

The Airflex pages don't publish foam densities, sag or impression thresholds, or warranty terms. We found no independent durability or sag testing as of September 2026. You'll want to treat long-term hold-up as unproven beyond the flippable design and the maker's since-1899 history.

Customer reviews and complaints

On-site Judge.me widgets show Borrego at 5.00 from 1 review and Dunsmuir at 5.00 from 1 review. Both praise the product and showroom service. Inverness shows 0.00 with no reviews.

There aren't any third-party expert reviews, verified complaint threads, or rating totals from BBB, Google or Yelp for Airflex (checked September 2026). The brand lists no complaint themes. That reflects thin review volume, not proven satisfaction.

Where can you try and buy?

You buy only through McRoskey. Shop online at store.mcroskeysf.com, which has the Airflex collection page plus Borrego, Dunsmuir and Inverness product pages. Or visit the San Francisco showroom (415.861.4532) or the San Rafael showroom (415.278.7770). The Borrego page says Airflex is on display in both showrooms.

There aren't any other authorized retailers, marketplaces or separate Airflex brand site (checked September 2026).

Delivery, setup and removal

Every Airflex mattress and box spring is built to order. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for standard sizes, with extra time and cost for custom sizes. Inside the San Francisco Bay Area, white-glove delivery is included in the price. That covers inside delivery, setup and take-away of an old mattress and box spring for up to two sets.

Out-of-area and out-of-state white-glove or curbside rates apply. Old-mattress take-away may cost extra outside the Bay Area. A $16 per piece CalRecycle fee applies. See mcroskeysf.com/delivery-information and confirm timing in writing.

Sleep trial and returns

No Airflex product page states a sleep trial as of September 2026. McRoskey has an Exchanges page at mcroskeysf.com/exchanges. But it doesn't publish the exchange window, comfort-exchange fees, restocking fees or refund method in a form we could read.

Custom sizes may carry extra restrictions. Confirm trial, exchange, return and fee terms with a Customer Experience Specialist in writing before you order a made-to-order build.

Warranty

The brand doesn't publish what its warranty covers (checked September 2026). No warranty length, sag threshold, proration schedule or claim steps appear on the Airflex pages. The old warranty-exchanges link is dead. McRoskey points you to its Exchanges page and showroom specialists.

Before you buy, request the written warranty. Ask for the years, coverage, exclusions and foundation requirements. Keep the receipt and law tag.

Airflex vs. other brands

Against McRoskey's main-line builds, Airflex is the vented specialty collection. It uses pocketed or microcoil units and latex step-ups. Against national luxury innerspring brands like Aireloom and Stearns and Foster, Airflex wins on double-sided flippability and local made-to-order craft. It loses on trial and warranty transparency and review depth.

Against bed-in-a-box brands, Airflex wins on materials and handwork. It loses on price, the 3 to 4 week lead time and trial clarity. Against latex specialists, Inverness with 6 in of Talalay competes on natural materials. But it doesn't publish as many specs, and it has no certifications beyond GOTS wool.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
