Pikes Mattress Review

Pike's Mattress (Pike's Brand) is an Evansville, Indiana family mattress maker, in business since 1946. It went online-only after a September 2024 fire destroyed its store and plant. Six models run from about $510 to $2,900. They mix partner-built American innersprings with Ortho Mattress hospitality and latex hybrids. It's best if you want a US-built two-sided innerspring. It doesn't publish a sleep trial, and the Originals are local-delivery only.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

Side sleepers can look at Capri Plush for soft contouring at the shoulders and hips, or the Miss Virginia and St Augustine Pillow Tops. Back sleepers can try Miss Virginia Standard Top (firm, minimal sink), St Augustine Standard Top (medium-firm) or Lansdowne Ultra Firm (very solid). Stomach sleepers should look at Lansdowne Ultra Firm first, then Miss Virginia Standard.

If you sleep hot, look at Ace or Kalahari. Ace is wool plus latex, positioned as temperature-regulating. Kalahari has gel memory foam plus a ventilating quilt, per the maker. If you're heavier or sit on the edge, Miss Virginia and St Augustine cite seating-grade edge support. Kalahari cites Solid State edge. This guidance is brand and maker positioning only. The brand doesn't publish per-model sleeper test data.

Mattress prices and value

List prices are starting points, and larger sizes cost more. Capri Plush is from $509.99. Original St Augustine is from $1,300 and Original Miss Virginia from $1,400. Kalahari is $1,619.99, Lansdowne Ultra Firm $1,929.99 and Ace Latex and Cotton and Wool $2,900. Foundations and adjustable bases cost extra. For example, 5 in and 9 in foundations and a Bunkie Board from about $115, plus power bases.

Capri undercuts most US-built hotel-supply hybrids. The two-sided Originals compete with specialty two-sided shops, not bed-in-a-box brands. Ace at $2,900 is priced against luxury natural latex-wool beds. You should confirm the street price for your size when you buy. Every page we surveyed showed Sold out flags alongside live variant pricing as of September 2026.

What are the mattresses made of?

Ace has a Joomla wool and cotton top and a New Zealand wool layer. Under those sit a medium-firm latex comfort layer, a firm latex core and tack-n-jump quilted ticking. It has no springs. Capri Plush uses gel-infused memory foam, a CertiPUR-US foam core and a Tencel quilted cover, and it's single-sided.

Kalahari has a cotton-blend quilt, double-sided gel-infused memory foam comfort layers, independent 360-degree honeycomb coils and a Solid State foam edge. The maker states its polyurethane foams are free of formaldehyde, flame retardants, prohibited phthalates and heavy metals, with low-VOC indoor air-quality standards. Lansdowne uses Dunlop latex plus pocketed coils, with CoolQuilt and Solidstate comfort layers. Thicknesses and densities aren't published.

Miss Virginia is a traditional double-sided innerspring with a copper-infused cover and foam, plus seating-grade edge. St Augustine is a traditional double-sided innerspring with seating-grade edge. The brand doesn't publish foam densities, coil counts, latex certifications (such as GOTS, GOLS or OEKO-TEX) or cover fabric specs (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

All durability evidence is maker-reported. Miss Virginia and St Augustine are double-sided and flippable, which spreads wear across two sleep surfaces. Kalahari carries a 10-year full replacement warranty against defects. Ace is positioned as hospitality-grade for commercial lodging. Capri cites a CertiPUR-US foam core for stability over time.

The brand doesn't publish a sag or indentation threshold, foam densities, coil gauges or independent durability testing. It doesn't publish a brand-wide warranty length for the Pike's-built Originals either (checked September 2026). Treat long-term comfort life as unverified. Flipping the two-sided models per the maker's guidance is the main longevity step.

Customer reviews and complaints

The surveyed Pike's Brand product pages show no star ratings, review counts or testimonials (checked September 2026). The brand doesn't publish third-party ratings from Google, BBB or Yelp for Pike's Mattress of Evansville, Indiana. It doesn't publish complaint themes either.

The business changed hands in August 2024 and suffered a total-loss fire on September 14, 2024. It now sells online-only with partner builders, so pre-fire store reviews wouldn't reflect the current setup. The Ortho-built models (Ace, Capri, Kalahari, Lansdowne) follow Ortho Mattress standards and warranties, not Pike's plant warranties.

Where can you try and buy?

You can buy online only, at pikesbrand.com, after the September 2024 fire destroyed the Evansville, Indiana store and plant. There's no showroom where you can try a bed. The About page lists phone help at 812-422-5761 for firmness selection. Miss Virginia and St Augustine are local delivery only and can't be rolled for parcel shipping.

The same storefront also lists third-party mattresses (Brooklyn Bedding, Bear, Avocado, EOS via The Sleep Loft) and Pike's accessories. Those are separate brands, not Pike's builds. Ortho Mattress Inc. builds the Ace, Capri, Kalahari and Lansdowne to hospitality and reserve specs. An unnamed industry partner builds the Originals to Pike's specs with all-American components.

Delivery, setup and removal

Orders ship within the contiguous 48 states only. Areas outside need a custom quote. Rates are calculated in the cart by product and location. Most orders ship within 3 business days, and many items drop-ship direct from the manufacturer. Capri Plush takes 7 to 14 days to make. You'll wait 3 to 5 weeks for Miss Virginia and St Augustine.

Miss Virginia and St Augustine are local delivery only. They can't be rolled for UPS parcel shipping. Freight can be quoted, but it's often nearly as much as the mattress. Foundations are sold separately. The brand doesn't publish white-glove setup, old-mattress removal, delivery speed guarantees or adjustable-base specs (checked September 2026).

Sleep trial and returns

The brand doesn't publish a sleep-trial length on the product or policy pages we surveyed (checked September 2026). The refund-policy page has no mattress-specific return window, steps, restocking fees or exchange terms. It doesn't publish returns, exchanges or fees.

You'll want to confirm the trial, who pays return shipping, condition requirements and any custom-order exclusions by phone at 812-422-5761 before you buy. That matters most for the 3-to-5-week custom-built Originals. Kalahari's defect remedy runs through its warranty, not a comfort trial.

Warranty

The brand doesn't publish a brand-wide warranty length, coverage, sag threshold, exclusions or claim process for Pike's Mattress as a whole (checked September 2026). At the model level, Kalahari includes an Ortho 10-year full replacement warranty covering manufacturing defects.

Ace, Capri Plush and Lansdowne show no warranty terms on their Pike's Brand pages. Ortho Mattress Inc. builds them, so Ortho's standard terms may apply. Confirm before you buy. Miss Virginia and St Augustine show no warranty terms either. State implied-warranty rights may apply. Confirm transport coverage for freight-shipped Originals in writing.

Pikes Mattress vs. other brands

Four Pike's-listed models (Ace, Capri, Kalahari, Lansdowne) are Ortho builds. So compare Pike's online pricing and freight against Ortho's California showrooms and hospitality division. Pike's wins on access for Midwest online shoppers and loses on try-before-buy. Against national innersprings such as Sealy and Beautyrest, the Originals win on two-sided flippable construction. They lose on trial, warranty transparency and dealer network.

Against natural latex-wool specialists such as Avocado and Savvy Rest, Ace wins on hotel-luxury positioning but loses on published certifications. Against value bed-in-a-box brands such as Brooklyn Bedding and Zinus, Capri wins on its US-built hotel-supply story. It loses on trial length and review volume.

How we put this review together
