Newton Baby Mattress Review

Newton Baby is the breathable-crib leader. Its patented Wovenaire core is 90% air plus food-grade polymer, with no foam, springs, latex or glue. Babies can breathe right through it, and it washes from cover to core. It's GREENGUARD Gold certified and has a 100-night trial and a lifetime core warranty. If safety comes first, it's the top pick for newborns to age 3 (Essential) or age 4 (Original). You'll pay a premium for it.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you have a newborn in a full-size crib and want value, choose the Essential. If you have a rigid-sided mini crib, choose the Mini, and confirm fit with your crib model. If you want a thicker mattress for longer use, choose the Original, usable to about age 4. If you want built-in waterproofing, choose the Waterproof.

For older kids and twins, see the brand's Kids Twin Mattress line on the official site. All models share the same breathable Wovenaire core, so you choose by crib size, thickness and waterproofing needs.

Mattress prices and value

Essential is $199.99. The product page says it's excluded from sitewide sales. Mini is $149.99 on sale (reg. $199.99). Original is $299.99. Waterproof is $332.50 on sale (reg. $349.99). An optional Essential waterproof crib pad add-on is $49.99.

It costs more than conventional foam and vinyl crib mattresses. But the lifetime limited core warranty, full washability and 100-night free-return trial support the price if you're a safety-focused buyer.

What are the mattresses made of?

The patented Wovenaire core is 90% air and 10% food-grade polymer. It has no foam, latex, springs, adhesives or vinyl/PVC, and it's lead- and phthalate-free. The cover is a cushiony single-layer spacer-polyester eyelet (Essential, Mini) or dual-layer (Original, Waterproof). It removes with a zipper. A plant-based viscose liner is sewn in for flammability compliance.

It's fully washable. You machine-wash the cover cold on delicate and tumble it low. You rinse the core with cool water and soap, then air-dry it standing up in a ventilated spot, away from sun and heaters.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

The durability evidence is mostly warranty-based. You get limited lifetime coverage on the Wovenaire core and 2-year limited cover and encasement coverage. The washable design targets the messes that usually end crib mattresses. Independent long-term wear data isn't published (checked September 2026).

The brand's own care guidance gives practical caveats. A rinsed core needs full, ventilated air-drying. A damp viscose liner can smell until dry, and the brand suggests baking soda.

Customer reviews and complaints

Official-site sentiment is strong. Essential shows 4.7/5 from about 470 reviews. The brand cites 9,400+ five-star parent reviews and a Voted #1 Most Trusted Crib Mattress Brand in America title (2026 BrandSpark American Trust Study, per the brand). Parents often praise breathability peace of mind, washability and firm infant support.

Common complaints are the premium price and the need for a separate waterproof pad on Essential and Original. Others cite slow core air-drying, an occasional damp-liner odor and cover zipper care. Third-party editorial coverage is broadly positive on breathability, though experiences vary.

Where can you try and buy?

You can buy direct at newtonbaby.com, with the full range, the 100-night trial and financing options. It's also sold through major baby registries, baby stores and online marketplaces. Assortment and pricing vary by retailer, so confirm the exact model before checkout.

The brand doesn't publish in-store try-out availability (checked September 2026). Check local baby-store stock.

Delivery, setup and removal

FedEx parcel delivery ships free in 2 to 4 business days, with typical transit cited as 3 to 7 days. The Mini page cites a 4 to 12 business-day arrival window. Shipping is free in the contiguous 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii rates are calculated by ZIP. Canada is a flat $50 plus taxes and duties.

There's no setup or old-mattress removal service. You unbox it, air it out, and fit it to the crib with no more than two fingers of gap, per standard crib-safety guidance.

Sleep trial and returns

The 100-Night Free Trial lets you try it and return it at the company's expense for a full refund. You can exchange or upgrade within 30 days of purchase. Return shipping is free per brand terms. No restocking fee is stated on the pages we reviewed.

Confirm the current trial and return steps at checkout or on the help pages, because terms can change.

Warranty

You get a Limited Lifetime Warranty on the Wovenaire core and a 2-year limited warranty on the cover and encasement. It covers manufacturing defects under normal use and care. It excludes normal wear, misuse and improper washing or drying.

You'll want to keep proof of purchase and follow the wash and dry instructions. Confirm the full text on the brand's warranty or help pages. The URL redirected when we checked in September 2026.

Newton Baby vs. other brands

Against Naturepedic (organic latex and innerspring, GOTS focus), Newton wins on airflow and full washability. Naturepedic wins on organic certifications. Against Lullaby Earth, Serta, Sealy and DaVinci foam-and-vinyl-cover cribs, Newton is more breathable and washable. It costs more, and Essential and Original need a separate waterproof pad.

Against budget foam and vinyl (IKEA, Graco), Newton is a premium safety and comfort upgrade at 2 to 4 times the price. Against Halo and mesh sleep surfaces, the breathability-first pitch is comparable. You should compare fit, thickness and trial terms model to model.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.

Quick answers before you buy

Is the Newton really breathable?

Its Wovenaire core is 90% air by brand spec, with GREENGUARD Gold certification and brand-cited third-party airflow testing. You should still follow safe-sleep rules, with a bare crib and back sleeping.

Is it waterproof?

Essential and Original are not waterproof, so add the waterproof pad. Only the Waterproof model has a built-in barrier.

Can you really wash it?

Yes, from cover to core per the care instructions. Allow full air-dry time.

Which cribs does it fit?

Standard models fit typical full-size American cribs (52 x 28 in.). Mini fits rigid-sided mini cribs only, not play yards.

What if my baby hates it?

There's a 100-night trial with free return shipping and a full refund. You can exchange or upgrade within 30 days.

Is it worth the price?

If breathability and washability come first, yes. Budget shoppers can get safe basic foam and vinyl cribs for less.
