Kolcraft Mattress Review

Kolcraft sells no adult mattresses. It's a third-generation, family-run Chicago baby-gear maker that has operated for about 80 years. It sells five budget crib mattresses from $39.99 to $79.99, in polyfoam and 150-coil innerspring. Key models are GREENGUARD Gold Certified, waterproof and US-assembled, with 5 to 10-year warranties. It's best if you're furnishing a nursery on a budget. The catch is that kolcraft.com often shows mattresses out of stock, so most shoppers buy through retailers. You won't find a published sleep trial.

No adult-mattress guidance applies here. All five models are firm infant and toddler mattresses, and they aren't rated by adult sleep position. They're positioned as firm infant-support surfaces that meet CPSIA and flammability requirements. Follow pediatric guidance for a firm, flat, bare sleep surface.

If you want easy lifting and sheet changes, the lightweight polyfoam Fresh Start and Pediatric 800 suit you. If you want a coil core with a 10-year warranty, choose the Pure Sleep 150 innerspring. For a mini crib, choose the Pediatric Mini Crib model, because standard-crib models don't fit mini frames. Fresh Start and Pure Sleep 150 are stated to fit convertible toddler beds.

Kolcraft undercuts most name-brand crib mattresses, including its sibling Sealy Baby. Key models carry GREENGUARD Gold and 5 to 10-year warranties. But three of the five models lack published specs. The maker's site often shows out of stock. You'll need to confirm street prices at Amazon, Target, Walmart or Wayfair.

Fresh Start (and, by name, Pediatric 800) has a light foam interior built for firm infant support. Fresh Start adds a textured waterproof outer layer that wipes clean, plus rectangular corners. Pure Sleep 150 has 150 metal coils, a firm low-allergen sleep area and a Perma-Dri moisture-resistant wipe-clean cover.

The brand reports Fresh Start at 27.88 by 52 by 5.13 inches and 7.6 lb. Pure Sleep 150 is 51.63 by 27.25 by 5 inches. The brand says GREENGUARD Gold covers Fresh Start and Pure Sleep 150. It says the mattresses meet or exceed all flammability, lead, phthalate and CPSIA testing and contain no toxic fire retardants. They're made in the USA of US and imported parts.

The brand doesn't publish cover or fire-barrier details, foam densities or coil gauge (checked September 2026). It also doesn't publish layer details for Pediatric 800, Mini or Sleepy Little One, or OEKO-TEX, GOTS and GOLS status. You won't find cutaway diagrams either.

The brand reports a 5-year warranty on Fresh Start and a 10-year warranty on Pure Sleep 150, for workmanship and materials. The sitewide warranty page says crib mattresses are covered at least 12 months. Longer terms appear on each mattress label or store display. Kolcraft repairs or replaces at its option, for the original owner only.

The brand doesn't publish sag thresholds, foam-fatigue data, coil-durability figures or independent durability testing (checked September 2026). It says it has about 80 years as a family-run US baby-products maker and is one of the leading US crib-mattress makers. Its headquarters is at 901 W. Jackson Blvd, Suite 200, Chicago, IL 60607. Nobody independent has verified those claims.

We found no review system on the Kolcraft product pages. The Fresh Start and Pure Sleep 150 pages showed out-of-stock status instead of review counts. An Amazon search surfaced only a Kolcraft waterproof crib-mattress pad (4.2 out of 5 stars, 11 reviews), not a mattress.

Target, Walmart and Wayfair pages were unavailable when we checked in September 2026. The brand doesn't publish Google, BBB, Sleep Foundation or RTINGS ratings for these five models. We found no listed complaint themes with review text.

Kolcraft is a low-price crib label sold through retailers, and its site often points you to Amazon, Target and Wayfair. Feedback is scattered across retailer listings, so thin review trails are normal at this price.

You can also buy at Amazon, Target, Walmart and Wayfair, and the site has a retailer locator. The brand doesn't publish trial rooms or showrooms.

For setup, you place the mattress directly in a standard crib or convertible toddler bed. Fresh Start is 27.88 by 52 inches, and Pure Sleep 150 is 51.63 by 27.25 inches. The brand doesn't publish unboxing, expansion time, slat-gap or bunk-bed guidance. White-glove setup and old-mattress removal aren't published, and they don't usually apply to light crib mattresses. If Kolcraft asks you to return goods under warranty, you prepay the postage and insure the parcel.

The brand doesn't publish a sleep trial on kolcraft.com (checked September 2026). No trial period appears in the product or warranty content. A link labeled Shipping and Returns was unavailable when we checked. The brand also doesn't publish return mechanics, exchange policy, restocking fees or return-shipping terms.

The maker site often shows mattresses out of stock and sends you to Amazon, Target and Wayfair. The selling retailer effectively governs returns and exchanges. Confirm the retailer's trial window, return-shipping or restocking fees and exchange rules before you buy. Keep tags and receipts, since warranty claims need them.

The sitewide warranty covers Kolcraft, Contours Baby, Sealy Baby and Tempur-Pedic Baby against defects in materials and workmanship. Crib mattresses are covered at least 12 months, with longer terms on each label or store display. Mattress and changing pads get 60 days. Gear gets 12 months, and Contours earns a second year on registration. Cribs and nursery furniture get 12 months. Fresh Start has 5 years, and Pure Sleep 150 has 10 years.

The only remedy is repair or replacement at Kolcraft's option, for the original owner. You'll need proof of purchase, your tags and photos or details. Exclusions include improper assembly, misuse, poor maintenance, outside repairs and damage from damp, rust, mold, sun, sweat or cleaners. Unauthorized-retailer, secondhand or floor-model purchases are out. So are crash or freight handling, normal wear, comfort preference, paint and finish, business use and use beyond infants and toddlers.
