Kingsdown Mattress Review
Kingsdown was founded in 1904 and is based in Mebane, North Carolina. It sells hybrid and innerspring mattresses factory-direct and through furniture and sleep retailers. We looked at five models. Four Select hybrids start at $1,949, and the Royal Villa 14.5 in Hospitality innerspring is $1,799. A 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty headline the offer. It's best if you want a hotel bed at home. Thin spec detail is the main caveat.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?
If you sleep on your side, the plush Syrah and Viognier usually suit you. If you sleep on your back or switch positions, look at the Cushion Firm Pinot and the Royal Villa. If you sleep on your stomach or want a firm feel, the Firm Riesling is your match.
Heavier sleepers should lean toward the taller coil units, the Syrah and Pinot, and use the Full Body Surround edge. The brand doesn't publish position-by-weight guidance (checked September 2026), so test the firmness in a store if you can.
Mattress prices and value
The Select Riesling starts at $1,949. The Viognier and Pinot start at $2,349, and the Syrah starts at $2,699. Second prices run up to $3,049, which suggests periodic markdowns. The Royal Villa is $1,799. Sets with a foundation or a BedJet adjustable base cost extra.
This is premium-traditional pricing, near Stearns and Foster and Beautyrest Black territory. It's fair value on promotion. At full list it's weaker value, given the thin published specs.
What are the mattresses made of?
There are two builds, the Select hybrids and the Royal Villa Hospitality innerspring. The Royal Villa has a gel-quilted stretch-knit cover, antimicrobial fire-resistant fiber and gel quilt foam. Under that sit Tri-Tech memory foam, plush and firm gel foams with copper, silver and graphite, and a zoned Tri-Tech gel lumbar layer. The coils are twice-tempered and individually wrapped, with a reinforced center third and a foam-encased Full Body Surround edge.
The foams are CertiPUR-US certified, and it's handcrafted in the USA and adjustable-base compatible. The brand doesn't publish full Select layer specs, foam densities, ILDs, coil counts or gauges (checked September 2026).
How well do the mattresses hold up?
The headline durability promise is the 10-year warranty. Twice-tempered coils and foam-encased edges are traditional longevity positives. Expert coverage notes excellent edge support and motion isolation.
The brand doesn't publish independent long-term durability testing, sag-depth thresholds or average lifespan (checked September 2026). Treat the brand-reported construction as your only evidence, because we found no third-party durability scores.
Customer reviews and complaints
On-site buyer notes are positive. One Passions buyer reports back pain gone the first night. A Prime buyer calls it comfortable and recommendable, and a Vintage buyer praises the softness. Experts cite excellent edge support, excellent motion isolation and botanically derived components.
Their cautions are a noticeable bounce if you dislike springs, and a latex-allergy flag. The brand doesn't publish BBB or Google scores or complaint counts (checked September 2026). Most of the risk sits in firmness mismatch and thin specs, not reported breakdowns.

Kingsdown vs. other brands
Against Stearns and Foster, the hotel-luxury innerspring pitch is similar. Kingsdown generally undercuts it on price but publishes fewer specs. Against Beautyrest Black, both push zoned coils and cooling foams, and Beautyrest offers a broader retail trial network. Against Sealy Posturepedic, Sealy wins on price and availability, and Kingsdown wins on pillowtop height and hotel feel.
Against bed-in-a-box hybrids like Brooklyn Bedding and Helix, online rivals win on trial generosity, free returns and spec detail. Kingsdown suits you if you want a traditional tall innerspring.
How we put this review together
We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
