Harbor Springs Mattress Review

Harbor Springs Mattress Co. of Harbor Springs, Michigan has hand-built two-sided natural-fiber mattresses since 2004. Its five models range from a 9-inch value bed to a 15-inch flagship. All are flippable and hand-tufted. Prices are luxury, at $2,300 to $9,970 mattress-only. It's best if you're a natural-material purist near Michigan who accepts no returns. You won't get a free sleep trial, so try one in a showroom before you order.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

If you're a back or combination sleeper who wants sturdy, buoyant support, look at the Harbor Light or the Trillium flagship. The brand calls the 15in Harbor Light its most resilient. If you love plush comfort, try the Bed of Roses or the Trillium in Soft. For pressure relief without springs, or if you use an adjustable base, the all-latex Cozy is the only adjustable-base-rated model. For kids, guest rooms, cottages and tight budgets, the Moon Beam 9in fits.

All models use breathable wool, cotton and latex, with no foam or glue claims. Hot sleepers should know that per-model cooling data isn't published (checked September 2026). Firmness comes only as Soft or Semi-Firm. Mattresses can't be returned, so test one in a showroom before you order.

Mattress prices and value

These are mattress-only USD prices on the official site as of September 2026. Moon Beam is Twin $2,300, Twin XL $2,450, Full $2,600, Queen $2,800 and King/Cal King $3,000. The Cozy is Twin $3,680, Full $4,050, Queen $4,850 and King/Cal King $5,850. Bed of Roses is Twin $4,200, Queen $5,800 and King/Cal King $7,000. Harbor Light is Full $5,480, Queen $6,650 and King/Cal King $8,100. Trillium is Twin $6,070, Queen $8,300 and King/Cal King $9,970.

Box-spring sets add roughly $700 to $1,000. Examples are the Cozy Queen set at $5,700, the Harbor Light Queen set at $7,500 and King set at $9,100, and the Moon Beam Cal King set at $4,000. Financing is offered, but the brand doesn't publish terms. It also doesn't publish sale pricing (checked September 2026).

This is ultra-premium artisan pricing. It makes sense only if you prize two-sided longevity, hand-tufting and natural fibers. If you're on a budget, you'll find better value elsewhere.

What are the mattresses made of?

The official product pages list cotton comfort and ticking layers, with a 100% organic cotton ticking and cover upgrade. They also list natural Dunlop latex layers and Michigan or US wool batting. That's about 9 lbs in the Bed of Roses, 20+ lbs in the Cozy, 20 lbs in the Harbor Light and 13-14 lbs in the Trillium. The Bed of Roses, Harbor Light and Trillium have 13.5-gauge innerspring cores with reinforced borders. The Trillium topper has a second micro-coil unit. Interior and exterior hand needle-tufting replaces glue, along with hand stitching.

The brand says all materials except latex are grown or made in the USA. It claims no off-gassing, chemicals or volatile organic compounds. The brand doesn't publish certifications such as CertiPUR-US, GOTS or GOLS. It also doesn't publish foam densities, latex ILDs or coil counts by layer (checked September 2026).

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Durability signals come mostly from the brand. Two-sided flippable construction is meant to double usable life. Dual interior and exterior hand-tufting is meant to resist sagging and shifting. Warranties are 25 years on the Bed of Roses, Harbor Light, Moon Beam and Trillium. The Cozy has 10 years, and the Trillium topper has 7 years.

The FAQ notes that natural cotton and wool loft settles slightly in year one, which firms the bed a little. It gives rotation guidance. The brand doesn't publish independent long-term sag, edge-support or motion-isolation tests. We found no recall notices on the official pages we reviewed (September 2026).

Customer reviews and complaints

The on-site Judge.me reviews page showed about 200 reviews, with 199 of 200 at 5 stars, as of September 2026. Shoppers praise comfort, craftsmanship and service, including Trillium and Harbor Light reviews. One shopper's caution is to visit the showroom several times, since mattresses can't be returned.

We couldn't find ratings from Google, BBB, Yelp or Trustpilot. We also found no pattern of complaints about sagging, delivery or warranty denials (checked September 2026).

Where can you try and buy?

You can buy direct at harborspringsmattress.com with US checkout. You can also visit in person. The official showroom pages list Harbor Springs (workshop tours Mon to Sat, 9am to 5pm) and Traverse City. They also list Birmingham MI, a Rochester-area location and a Naples showroom. The comfort-adjustment phone line is 231-347-0696.

The brand doesn't publish wholesale, Amazon, Wayfair, Costco or other retail availability (checked September 2026).

Delivery, setup and removal

Beds are made to order, with a stated lead time of about 5 to 6 weeks. In Michigan, brand craftsmen hand deliver. It's free in the Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix region. It's $125 for the Traverse City region and Northern Michigan, and $250 for Lower Michigan. Setup and packaging removal are included. Old-mattress disposal is available for a fee, but the amount isn't published.

Out-of-state shipments go by freight. They typically cost $125 to $500+ depending on distance from Harbor Springs, MI. Installation is optional, and you get a final price by quote. The brand may self-deliver large or grouped out-of-state orders. It doesn't publish room-of-choice or old-mattress removal terms outside Michigan (checked September 2026).

Sleep trial and returns

There's no free sleep trial. Mattresses, foundations and custom frames are made to order. They're non-returnable, with no refunds or exchanges.

Instead, the brand offers ONE comfort adjustment within the first year. It swaps soft to semi-firm, or the reverse, by changing latex and tufting tension. It costs 15% of the current mattress cost, plus delivery charges outside Michigan. It's for the original purchaser with proof of purchase, and for Michigan residents only. Unopened protectors and sheets can be returned within 30 days, less a 20% restocking fee plus shipping. The brand doesn't publish other exchange windows or mattress return shipping fees (checked September 2026).

Warranty

The limited warranty page is titled 25-Year Warranty. You get 25 years when a new HSMC mattress is paired with a new HSMC box spring on an appropriate frame. You get 15 years without an HSMC box spring, such as on a platform or third-party base, if support is sound. The Cozy carries 10 years, as the only adjustable-base-approved model. The Trillium's removable mini-mattress topper carries 7 years and is replaceable.

It covers confirmed defects in materials and workmanship. Repair or replacement is the brand's choice. It excludes transport, handling and duties. You need to be the original purchaser and use proper support. The brand doesn't publish sag thresholds, stain and soiling details or claim steps beyond calling the brand (checked September 2026).

Harbor Springs vs. other brands

Against Casper, Purple and Nectar, Harbor Springs costs far more and has no trial or free returns. But you get two-sided natural builds with decades-long warranties. Against Avocado, Saatva Latex Hybrid and PlushBeds, the natural-fiber story and premium pricing are similar. Harbor Springs is workshop-scale and Michigan-centric. It's hand-tufted on both sides and sells only Soft or Semi-Firm, with comfort tuning for Michigan only.

Against other local craftsmen, its differences are the 25-year warranty, flippable builds and wool-heavy fills. Its drawback is non-returnable made-to-order terms. The brand doesn't publish head-to-head comfort or durability test wins (checked September 2026).
