Sleep Science Mattress Review
Sleep Science is a Costco-channel value brand from South Bay International, founded in 1993. It sells thick all-foam mattresses and adjustable-base bundles at mysleepscience.com. You get a 120-night trial and a 20-year warranty. It's best if you're a bargain hunter who wants plush memory foam, a flippable firmness option or a mattress-plus-base set. Expect heavy all-foam builds. Don't expect luxury cooling or innerspring bounce.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?
If you sleep on your side, start with the Ara 13 inch mid-plush or the Sonoma on its medium-soft side. Back sleepers can try the Ara mid-plush, either Sonoma side, or the Copper if you like firm. Stomach sleepers should try the Copper 14 inch first, then the Sonoma on its medium-firm side.
Hot sleepers get airflow from air-channel bases and washable covers. The brand doesn't publish active cooling tech, so manage your expectations. Couples and base users can consider Queen or King Split bundles. The Ara sets add head and foot lift, massage and app control.
Mattress prices and value
These are direct prices we saw on mysleepscience.com in September 2026. The Ara 13 inch Queen set is $1,699 on sale against $1,999.99. The King Split is $2,499 against $2,999.99. The Copper 14 inch Queen is $899.99, down from $1,299. The King and Cal King are $1,059.99, down from $1,499. Copper sets run $1,999.99 to $3,199.99.
The Sonoma 12 inch Queen is $899.99 and the King and Cal King are $1,099.99. A Queen plus base set is $2,099.99. The value pitch is thick foam, bundle discounts and a 20-year mattress warranty.
Costco's site was unavailable when we checked in September 2026. Costco warehouse and online prices vary, so confirm the live Costco listing before you rely on a price. The brand doesn't publish current Costco shelf prices (checked September 2026).
What are the mattresses made of?
These are all-foam memory foam builds over high-density air-channel support cores. The brand publishes no innersprings. The Ara has 5-lb pillow-top and 5-lb memory foam layers, plus airflow comfort foam. It also has wedge edge reinforcement and a removable, machine-washable cover. The brand tells an allergen and mite-resistant story.
The Copper has a copper-infused visco top, memory foam and an 11 in proprietary air-channel base with patented wedge support. The Sonoma has a symmetrical two-sided stack. It has OptiAir medium-soft and medium-firm faces, air-comfort foam, a central air-channel core and a washable zip cover.
The brand describes its foams as free of flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde and phthalates. The Sonoma page states CertiPUR certified. Builds meet the 16 CFR Part 1633 open-flame rule. Paired bases are UL listed or evaluated. Full layer densities beyond the Ara 5-lb foams aren't published (checked September 2026).
How well do the mattresses hold up?
The brand positions the feel as plush and pressure-relieving. It notes a 30 to 60 day break-in. The thick air-channel base foam and wedge edge reinforcement are claimed to add usable surface. The warranty covers visible indentation over three-fourths inch from cell-structure deterioration. It doesn't cover normal softening or sag-associated impressions.
The brand doesn't publish independent long-term sag, heat-retention or edge-durability data (checked September 2026). Weights suggest dense builds. A Queen runs 79 to 118 lbs depending on the model, and a King runs 100 to 115 lbs. You'll need two people to handle one.
Customer reviews and complaints
Third-party ratings and complaint tallies were thin when we checked in September 2026. The GoodBed brand page showed no reviews. Pages on Mattress Clarity, Sleep Like The Dead and ConsumerAffairs were unavailable. Costco's site was unavailable, so we couldn't verify member ratings.
Themes we've seen for this value-foam channel include comfort-for-price praise. Complaints cover heavy handling, an initial odor for 24 to 48 hours, warmth and split-set availability gaps. Model-level counts aren't published (checked September 2026). Buy through Costco where you can, for Costco member-service backing.
Where can you try and buy?
You can try and buy at a Costco warehouse or on Costco's site when the brand is listed. You can also buy direct at mysleepscience.com. The direct storefront has Mattresses, Adjustable Bed Frames and Bundles sections. Call the Sleep Concierge Team at 1-877-622-6550, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Pacific.
The brand doesn't publish a showroom network. In-person tryouts depend on Costco floor stock, which varies by location. Confirm local Costco availability before you visit.
Delivery, setup and removal
Direct delivery options appear at checkout. FedEx parcel takes 5 to 10 days across most US ZIP codes. White Glove room delivery takes 2 to 4 weeks by appointment. It includes setup and packing removal for an extra fee. The Ara page notes it's free for King and Cal King mattresses.
Mattresses ship compressed and rolled in a box, with near-full recovery claimed. Costco delivery, setup, haul-away and old-mattress removal follow the live Costco listing. We couldn't confirm those terms because Costco's site was unavailable when we checked in September 2026.
Sleep trial and returns
Direct orders at mysleepscience.com follow the Policies page. Mattress-only orders and Sleep Bundles get a 120-Day Sleep Trial and Hassle-Free Return Policy. You sleep on it 30 days first. Then you decide between day 30 and day 120.
Adjustable-base-only orders and accessories get a 30 day return window from delivery. That covers bedding, pillows, protectors, sheets and brackets. Replacement remotes are final sale. Fees and exchange mechanics aren't published beyond that policy text (checked September 2026). Costco purchases follow Costco's own return terms on the live listing.
Warranty
The mattress has a 20-year limited warranty for the original purchaser, with proof of purchase. It covers cell-structure deterioration that causes visible indentation greater than three-fourths inch, not associated with sag. It requires proper support, such as a continuous surface or an adjustable base. The product pages also tell a waterproof protector story.
It excludes spills, soiling and unsanitary conditions. It also excludes cover fading, pilling and shrinkage, normal softening and normal wear. The adjustable base has a 10-year limited warranty for the original owner. It includes 1 year of in-home service and free parts replacement in years 2 to 5. Implied warranties are limited to the warranty period where allowed. The brand doesn't publish claim instructions or a prorating schedule (checked September 2026).
Sleep Science vs. other brands
Among Costco peers, Sleep Science is the thick all-foam bundle-value pick. Others offer innerspring or hybrid boxed beds and latex upgrades. Pick it for low sale prices plus base bundles. Skip it if you want coils or organic builds.
Against online memory-foam brands, you get similar pressure relief with heavier all-foam stacks and a flippable Sonoma option. You get less published trial transparency than 365-night leaders, and thinner review coverage. Against adjustable-base specialists, the bundles add head and foot lift, massage, app and Bluetooth control and 750-lb capacity claims. But base-only warranty service is 1 year in-home. Firmness and spec disclosures are partial compared with spec-rich competitors.
How we put this review together
We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
