Saatva Contour5 Review (2026): Firmness, Price and Who It Suits

Type All memory foam
Firmness Medium
Queen Price $3,179
Height 12.5 in
Trial 365 nights ($99 to return)
Warranty Lifetime ($149 repairs from year 3)

The 30-second verdict

The Saatva Contour5 suits couples who want a still, quiet bed with a deep memory foam hug. Skip it if you often sit on the side of the bed or like a bouncy feel. The catch is price: Saatva listed the Queen at $3,179 in September 2026, which is a lot for an all-foam bed.

Saatva Contour5 Saatva Contour5 mattress
Pros
  • Very little motion. Sleep Foundation gave it 9.5 out of 10 for keeping a partner's movement from spreading.
  • Strong pressure relief. Thick foam lets shoulders and hips sink in, which helps side sleepers.
  • Cooler than most foam. A heat-soaking top layer and gel foam help it sleep cooler than plain memory foam.
  • Long trial. You get 365 nights to decide, with setup in your room included.
Cons
  • Soft edges. Sleep Foundation scored edge support only 6 out of 10.
  • Slow to move on. Foam that hugs you also makes it harder to turn over.
  • High price. At $3,179 for a Queen, it costs far more than many good foam beds.
  • One feel only. Saatva now shows a single Medium feel, so stomach sleepers have no firmer choice.
Feel & Fit

How firm is the Saatva Contour5, and which firmness should you pick?

The Saatva Contour5 is medium, and Saatva now sells it in that one feel only. The brand rates it 5 to 7 out of 10 and says it hugs your body without letting your hips sink too far.

Older outside reviews tell a different story. Sleep Foundation tested a Medium Firm version at 6 out of 10 and a Firm version at 8. NapLab also listed both. In September 2026, the Saatva page showed only Medium. The Firm may have been dropped, so check the order page before you buy.

Who the Medium suits best: side, back and combo sleepers from about 130 to 230 pounds. Stomach sleepers and people over 230 pounds may want something firmer.

Is the Saatva Contour5 right for your sleep position and body weight?

It fits side and back sleepers best. Stomach sleepers and heavy people should think twice.

  • Side sleepers: a great match. Sleep Foundation scored pressure relief 9 out of 10, and NapLab gave it 10.
  • Back sleepers: good. A firmer band under the lower back helps keep you level.
  • Stomach sleepers: the Medium feel may let your hips dip too low.
  • Combo sleepers: you sink in more than on a coil bed. Sleep Foundation scored ease of movement 6.5.

Saatva rates it for up to 300 pounds per sleeper. Edge support is the weak spot. Sleep Foundation gave it 6 out of 10, though NapLab gave it 10. Expect the side to sink when you sit on it.

Feel & Fit

Is the Saatva Contour5 good for back pain?

It can help with everyday back aches, but the strongest claims come from Saatva. The brand points to a lumbar layer under the middle third of the bed. It uses a phase change material, which soaks up heat, plus gel foam. Saatva says keeping that foam cooler makes it feel denser. No outside study backs that up.

Outside scores are still good. Sleep Foundation gave pressure relief 9 out of 10, and NapLab gave it 10. That means less push on your shoulders and hips.

  • Side sleepers with sore hips or shoulders: a good fit.
  • Stomach sleepers with low back pain: look for a firmer bed.

If your pain is severe or lasts, see a doctor first.

Feel & Fit

How cool or hot does it sleep?

It sleeps cooler than most memory foam, but not as cool as a coil bed. Saatva calls its cooling setup CoolVent. It has two parts:

  • A top layer with phase change material, which soaks up body heat.
  • Gel foam with air channels cut into it.

Outside testers mostly liked it. NapLab scored cooling 9 out of 10. Sleep Foundation gave it 7. Tom's Guide was happy with the temperature but said very hot sleepers should pick a bed built for cooling.

If you want foam and run a little warm, this is a fair choice. If you wake up sweaty most nights, a coil bed like the Saatva Classic will feel cooler.

Will you feel your partner move?

You will barely feel your partner move. This is the main reason to buy the Contour5.

Memory foam soaks up motion instead of passing it along like springs do. Sleep Foundation scored motion isolation 9.5 out of 10, the top mark among Saatva beds it tested. NapLab gave a lower 6.7, so the two testers do not agree. Still, thick memory foam like this is usually among the best at keeping a bed still.

The tradeoff is low bounce. You sink in, and turning over takes a bit more effort.

For the stillest setup, pick a Split King. It is two Twin XL beds side by side, so each half moves on its own.

Sizes, heights and prices: is it worth the money?

It is pricey for an all-foam bed. Saatva listed the Queen at $3,179 on September 25, 2026. Outside sites have shown lower prices at other times. NapLab saw about $2,699 in July 2026, and Tom's Guide listed $2,999 in early 2025. Prices move with sales, so check before you buy.

Sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King and Split King. There is one height, 12.5 inches.

Is it worth it? Pay this much only if a still bed matters most to you. A budget foam bed like the Nectar Premier costs far less. Within Saatva, the Loom and Leaf costs about the same and has a longer track record. The Contour5 wins on cooling and motion.

Where can you buy or try it?

You can buy the Contour5 only from Saatva, on its website or by phone. Big stores and Amazon do not carry it. A bed from another seller may not come with the trial or warranty.

Want to lie on it first? Saatva has about 35 showrooms across the country. You test the beds there and order online, at the same price.

Build & Safety

How is it built?

The Saatva Contour5 is all foam, with no springs. From top to bottom:

  1. A knit cover.
  2. A plant-based fire barrier.
  3. A lumbar layer with phase change material, which soaks up heat.
  4. Gel memory foam with air channels. Saatva calls it 4 pound foam, a measure of how dense it is.
  5. A 3 inch layer of denser 5 pound memory foam.
  6. A transition foam and a firm foam base.

The bed is 12.5 inches tall. NapLab measured 12.25. Saatva lists the Queen at 92 pounds and the King at 116. Deep pocket sheets fit. Saatva does not share the thickness of each base layer.

Materials and certifications

The Contour5 has one strong safety label and one that is likely but not shown. Its fire barrier is GREENGUARD Gold certified, which limits the gases a product gives off indoors. Saatva says all its memory foam beds use CertiPUR-US foam, a label that tests foam for certain harmful chemicals. We did not see that badge on the Contour5 page itself.

Plan for a smell at first. NapLab rated off-gassing well overall but noted a strong smell for about 3 days. That is more than most Saatva beds. Open a window and let it air out.

Saatva says it does not add PFAS, a group of long-lasting chemicals.

Does the Saatva Contour5 have fiberglass?

No. Saatva says none of its mattresses use fiberglass. For the Contour5, the fire barrier is made of cellulose, a fiber that comes from trees. It wraps all six sides, and the brand names it in its list of fire barriers.

You can check this yourself. Find the sewn law tag on the bed. It lists what is inside. If you do not see "glass fiber" or "silica," the barrier is not fiberglass.

What bed base does it need?

The Contour5 works on almost any firm, flat base. Saatva says these are fine:

  • A box spring, foundation or bunkie board, which is a thin flat board.
  • A frame with a foundation on top.
  • A platform bed with slats at least 3 inches wide and less than 4 inches apart.
  • An adjustable base. A Split King pairs with two Saatva split bases.
  • A Murphy bed.

An old base is fine if it is under 7 years old and has a center support. For a Queen or larger, use a frame with 5 or 6 legs. Poor support can void the warranty.

How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?

Saatva says the Contour5 should last 10 to 15 years. That is the brand's guess, not a test. All-foam beds can soften over time, so watch for dips.

Care tips:

  • Turn it head to foot after 6 months, then once a year.
  • Do not flip it. The comfort layers are only on top.
  • Give it a few days to a month to break in.

If a dip deeper than 1.5 inches forms, it counts as a warranty claim.

Delivery, setup and old mattress removal

The Contour5 comes with free setup in the room you pick. A crew carries it in, places it on your base and hauls off the packing. It is made to order, so plan on 9 to 21 days.

Someone must be home during the 4-hour delivery window. If you ask at checkout, Saatva takes away your old mattress and foundation for free. At 92 pounds for a Queen, it is good that you do not have to move it yourself.

Trials, returns and fees

The Contour5 has a 365-night home trial. If it is not right, Saatva picks it up and keeps $99 from your refund. An exchange also costs $99.

Since this bed comes in one feel only, an exchange means moving to a different Saatva model. Give the foam a few weeks to break in before you decide.

What does the warranty cover, and what voids it?

The Contour5 has a lifetime warranty for the first buyer. A flaw in years 1 and 2 gets you a new bed. From year 3, Saatva repairs and re-covers it for a $149 fee.

Sagging deeper than 1.5 inches is covered. That matters on an all-foam bed, since foam softening is the main risk. Stains, burns, a weak base or buying it used can void the warranty.

How does the Saatva Contour5 compare?

The Contour5 stands out for stillness and cooling among foam beds. Here is when another bed makes more sense.

  • Saatva Loom and Leaf: about the same price. Pick it for a longer track record and slightly better edges. Pick the Contour5 to sleep cooler and feel less motion.
  • Nectar Premier: pick it to save well over a thousand dollars. Tom's Guide named it as the budget choice. The Contour5 has denser foam and in-room setup.
  • Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt: pick it for an even deeper hug. The Contour5 costs less and has a longer trial.

If you want bounce and firm edges, a coil bed like the Saatva Classic fits better.

Has the Saatva Contour5 changed since it launched?

The Contour5 is new, so there is not much history yet. Saatva launched it in 2024 as a body-hugging foam bed.

One change stands out. Reviews from late 2024 tested both a Medium Firm and a Firm version. In September 2026, the Saatva page showed only Medium. Saatva has not said whether the Firm was dropped for good. If you want a firmer feel, ask Saatva before you order.

How we research and report

We did not test this mattress in person. This page draws on Saatva's own product, trial, delivery and warranty pages, checked in September and October 2026. We also used lab scores from Sleep Foundation and NapLab, a Tom's Guide review and dated price reports, and we label brand claims as brand claims.

We could not find enough good evidence to answer these questions yet, so this page leaves them out: Owner Reviews.
