Room Essentials Mattress Review

Room Essentials is Target's budget house brand for home goods. Its only mattress is the 6-inch Gel Memory Foam model in Twin, Full and Queen. We saw about $110 to $170 on clearance. It has a firm feel, gel foam over support foam, and CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX labels. It's best for kids, bunks and guest rooms. If you want plush comfort, look elsewhere.

Checked September 2026 against the brand's own pages and public listings. We haven't sleep-tested these mattresses, so treat this as a buyer's summary of what the brand publishes.

Which mattress suits your sleep needs?

The firm, thin profile suits lighter back sleepers and kids. Heavier back sleepers will likely bottom out and want a thicker mattress. Stomach sleepers get help from the firmness. But 6 inches of foam offers limited support for average-plus weights.

Side sleepers are a poor match, with minimal pressure relief for shoulders and hips. For hot sleepers, the gel infusion and breathable cover are basic only, with no specialty cooling. Kids and bunk users are the best match, given the low profile and price.

Mattress prices and value

We saw these prices in September 2026. Twin was $110.50 on clearance (reg. $130.00), Full was $153.00, and Queen was $170.00 on clearance (reg. $200.00). They're subject to Target clearance rotation.

Value is strong for occasional use and kids' beds against Walmart Mainstays and Allswell entry models. But comfort per dollar is thin for everyday adult use. There, Zinus and Lucid beds of 8 to 12 inches often deliver more mattress per dollar.

What are the mattresses made of?

It's all-foam, with no coils. The outer cover is soft woven polyester treated with antimicrobial technology for odor control. Under it sit 1 inch of gel-infused memory foam and a 5-inch foam support base. It has a firm feel and works with adjustable bases. You can only spot or wipe clean it.

Labels are CertiPUR-US certified foam and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX (cert SHHO 060330 TESTEX on Target's specs). It's described as non-toxic and fire-resistant. The brand doesn't publish foam densities, ILD ratings or fiberglass content (checked September 2026). Origin is listed as Made in the USA and Imported.

How well do the mattresses hold up?

A 10-year limited warranty covers it. But realistic comfort life is a few years of nightly adult use, given the thin 6-inch all-foam build. It lasts longest in kids' and guest-room duty.

Rotate it regularly, use a protector and place it on a solid or closely slatted base. The brand doesn't publish independent long-term sag, indentation or durability test data (checked September 2026).

Customer reviews and complaints

Target's shared listing rating is 4.25 out of 5 across about 708 ratings and 267 written reviews, with 75% recommending, as of September 2026. Praise covers comfort for the price, easy bed-in-a-box setup, a good fit for kids and bunk beds, and firm support.

Complaints include too firm or uncomfortable for adults, chemical off-gassing odor, and a narrow or small fit with sheet gaps. There are also isolated reports of a moldy unit and difficult bulky returns. We found no third-party editorial reviews or BBB profile data for the mattress (September 2026).

Where can you try and buy?

It's a Target house brand sold only through Target. You can buy on Target.com through the Room Essentials brand page and the mattress listing with its size selector. You can also buy in Target stores where it's stocked. Same Day Delivery, Drive Up and Order Pickup are offered on eligible items.

There's no standalone Room Essentials website, no dedicated showroom and no third-party dealers. Check local store stock before you visit, since display models vary by location.

Delivery, setup and removal

It ships as a compressed bed-in-a-box through Target's standard, same-day or pickup options, depending on location and stock. Unbox it promptly and allow expansion time plus airing for odor. Shipping costs, thresholds and delivery windows follow Target's current cart-level terms. They vary by fulfillment method.

The brand doesn't publish white-glove in-room setup or old-mattress removal. It also doesn't publish frame and base requirements beyond adjustable-base compatibility (checked September 2026).

Sleep trial and returns

The brand doesn't publish a dedicated sleep trial. Target's return policy covers purchases. The mattress listing says you must return it within 365 days of in-store purchase, guest delivery, Shipt delivery or guest pickup. Returns go through Target stores or Target.com. Keep proof of purchase.

The brand doesn't publish restocking fees, return-shipping charges for bulky opened mattresses or exchange steps (checked September 2026).

Warranty

Target's specs list a 10 Year Limited Warranty. They direct you to call Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 for a copy of the manufacturer's or supplier's warranty before you buy.

The brand doesn't publish covered defects or a sagging-depth threshold. It also doesn't publish exclusions such as stains, misuse or the wrong foundation, claim steps or who pays freight (checked September 2026). Confirm the full warranty text before you buy.

Room Essentials vs. other brands

Against Allswell, Walmart's budget hybrid line, Room Essentials is cheaper and foam-only. Allswell adds coils and edge support. Against Mainstays and Spa Sensations, Walmart's budget foam, it's a direct Target-aisle rival on price with similar thin-foam trade-offs.

Against Zinus and Lucid, it loses on thickness choice, published specs and review depth. Against Casper, Nectar and Sealy, it competes on price alone. It has no dedicated trial, no white-glove service and far less support.

How we put this review together

We read the brand's own product, policy and warranty pages, then checked retailer listings and public complaint sites like the Better Business Bureau. We last checked everything here in September 2026. Prices and policies change, so confirm them on the seller's page before you buy. You can read more in our methodology and editorial policy.
