The 30-second verdict
Yes: Sleep Foundation says side sleepers over 230 lb tend to do best on Firm (7). Softer options permit too much sink. The catch: Sleep Foundation found back sleepers over 230 lb are not a great fit; their torsos sink too deeply. Virtually all stomach sleepers over 230 lb found even Firm too soft.
For hot sleepers, Saatva Classic by Saatva is a better fit. Sleep Foundation lists it among its best fits and scores its temperature control 10.0/10.
Saatva's Queen list price is $2,229 to $2,249, compared with ThermoBalance's $2,532 Queen list price. Buy it only if you're a side sleeper over 230 lb who wants Firm (7).

Pros
Motion isolation. Sleep Foundation scored motion isolation 8.5/10 and noted little bounce.
Lying edge support. NapLab's reviewer called its lying edge support outstanding in all sleeping positions.
Three firmness options. Brooklyn Bedding offers soft, medium, and firm versions for shoppers who want a choice of feel.
Cons
Cooling test reading. NapLab measured a maximum surface temperature of 89.0° F, a result to weigh if a cool sleep surface matters to you.
Build revisions. NapLab lists changes to the head and foot coil gauge and support foam density by September 2026, so its tests may not match the current build.
Getting-up edge. Owners complain that the edges give too much when getting out of bed.
How firm is the ThermoBalance collection, and which firmness should you pick?
Pick from Soft, Medium, or Firm based on the feel you prefer. Sleep Foundation rated the Soft option Medium Soft (4), the Medium option Medium Firm (6), and the Firm option Firm (7) on its firmness scale of 1 to 10. Choose Soft for the softer end, Medium for the middle reading, or Firm for the firmest reading. The tester labels for Soft and Medium differ from Brooklyn Bedding's option names, so compare the exact rating as well. Sleep Foundation updated its review October 7, 2026.

Is the ThermoBalance collection right for your sleep position and body weight?
For sleepers over 230 lb, the ThermoBalance collection is a better fit for side sleeping than back or stomach sleeping, according to Sleep Foundation.
For side sleeping, look at firm (7): softer options permit too much sink. Sleep Foundation rated this fit 6.5.
For back sleeping, the 5.5 rating and reports of torso sink make it a weak match if torso sink is a concern.
For stomach sleeping, the 5.0 rating is a caution. Virtually all testers found even the firmest version too soft, and abdomen sink can lead to poor spinal alignment.
Lying edge support is a plus if you sleep near the edge: NapLab's tester called it outstanding in all sleeping positions.
Neck: lying on your side, ask if your pillow and the bed keep your head in line with your spine.
Shoulders: ask if the shoulder under you settles in, or if you feel a pinch after a few minutes.
Back: lying face up, slide a hand under your waist. A big gap or no room at all is a sign of a poor match.
Hips: ask if your hips dip lower than your shoulders, like lying in a shallow bowl.
Four checks: lie still for a few minutes in the position you sleep in most, then notice how each spot feels. These are comfort checks, not a medical test.Sources (2)
Is the ThermoBalance collection good for back pain?
The ThermoBalance may be worth considering for support, but it is not a promise of back-pain relief. Brooklyn Bedding highlights 3-zoned lumbar support. NapLab's reviewer reported feeling well supported in all sleeping positions on the ThermoBalance. That is a support signal, not a back-pain result. Use it as one part of your choice, and judge the bed by your own comfort rather than expecting pain relief.

The ThermoBalance’s listed design promotes airflow, and NapLab measured a maximum surface temperature of 89.0° F. Brooklyn Bedding lists a ThermoCool cover, ThermoPhase foam with phase-change material, quilt foam, copper-infused memory foam, and 360-degree airflow through encased coils and open-cell foams. NapLab reports a surface reading, not a warm-or-neutral sleep verdict, so treat the number as a temperature check rather than a promise about how the bed will feel.
Cooling features the brand lists
ThermoCool cover, ThermoPhase foam with phase-change material, quilt foam, copper-infused memory foam, and 360-degree airflow with encased coils and open-cell foams.
You may feel your partner move, but the outside readings suggest limited motion and bounce. NapLab rated motion transfer low at 7.45 m/s² acceleration range and bounce low at 7.80″ total height. Sleep Foundation scored motion isolation 8.5/10, and its tester reported little bounce. For a light sleeper with a restless partner, that points to a lower risk of disruption, not a promise of undisturbed sleep. Use motion isolation and bounce as key checks when comparing beds.

The listed build places the ThermoCool Cover, ThermoPhase Foam, and Quilt Foam above the coil unit, with Supportive Base Foam below.
ThermoCool Cover uses cool tech fibers.
ThermoPhase Foam is 0.75 inches of foam infused with temperature-regulating Phase Change Material (PCM). Brooklyn Bedding says it absorbs and releases heat to maintain sleep temperature.
Quilt Foam is 0.75 inches of foam.
Ascension Zoned Coil has 8 inches of encased coils. Supportive Base Foam is 0.75 inches of foam.
The construction also names copper-infused memory foam and VariFlex transition foam.

The ThermoBalance has a ThermoCool cover with cool tech fibers; its listed certifications address foam and mattress emissions. Brooklyn Bedding says the fibers remove excess heat from the sleep surface. CertiPUR-US applies to flexible polyurethane foam, while GREENGUARD Gold covers mattress-product emissions. These labels address specific scopes, not every material in the bed.
Does the ThermoBalance collection have fiberglass?
Brooklyn Bedding labels the ThermoBalance collection fiberglass free in a product image. For the fire barrier material in your own mattress, check its law tag, which lists the materials used in the bed. If you are shopping in person, read the tag on the specific mattress before making a choice.
How long will it last, and does it need flipping or rotating?
Sleep Foundation expects the ThermoBalance to hold up for at least 6 to 7 years; Brooklyn Bedding says most of its mattresses should be rotated every 6 to 8 months and never flipped or inverted. Sleep Foundation also gives it a durability score of 7.0/10. Treat the lifespan as an estimate, not a promise about how long your mattress will last.

On Brooklyn Bedding's site, owners praise the medium's comfort but commonly complain about edge give and average cooling. The site lists a 4.45 / 5 rating from 20 reviews. The score comes from the maker's own review page, so use it as customer feedback, not an outside test. Those complaints matter if you want steady edge support or a distinctly cool feel. Sleep Foundation separately reports that customers of the two luxury models praise sturdy feel and resistance to overheating, which is useful context but not a score for the ThermoBalance mattress.
