The 30-Second Verdict: Quick Summary
Yankee Mattress Company is an employee-owned, factory-direct maker in Agawam, Massachusetts. It handcrafts made-to-order beds in three collections, Silver, Gold and Black, from $449 to $4,798. You'll mainly buy through three Western Massachusetts showrooms. You get free local delivery, US-sourced materials, CertiPUR-US foams and natural latex. Yes if you live in or near Western Massachusetts and want factory-direct pricing, US-made materials and a hands-on showroom experience with material samples. No if you want a risk-free online sleep trial, free returns or nationwide shopping: three models cannot ship at all, used mattresses are never refunded, and the brand relies on comfort adjustments rather than returns, so out-of-region shoppers carry most of the risk.

Chapter 02
Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you
Why this matters to you: Feel names are the brand's words, not measurements. Use them to shortlist two or three beds, then let your body decide.
Side sleepers and anyone wanting a cloud-like feel: Nantucket in latex or Westerly in memory foam. Back and combination sleepers: York, Newport or Florence in medium. Stomach sleepers, heavier sleepers and firm-preferring couples: Fairhaven, Chatham or Conway.
Die-hard extra-firm fans and people who need an easy exit from bed: Brunswick, Revere, Rockland or Manchester. Couples who disturb each other: Gold Collection, chosen for motion isolation. Kids rooms, guest rooms and first apartments on a budget: Silver Collection.
Hot sleepers or anyone waking with aches: Black Collection latex models, which breathe and pressure-relieve. Adjustable-base owners: every model except Rockland. Shoppers wanting the lowest profile: Newport, Chatham, Revere, Manchester and the rest of the 12-inch-or-below group.

Which Yankee Mattress feel fits you?
Weight chart not yet researched
Weight and sleep position can change how a bed feels. We have not yet checked whether Yankee Mattress publishes a fit chart by body weight, so use a trial, where one is offered, to test the bed the way you sleep at home.
Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.
Figure 2.1: Four checks to run in a store, lying still in the position you sleep in most. The store test in chapter 11 says how long to lie on each bed.

Chapter 05
How well do the mattresses hold up?
Why this matters to you: A mattress is a long buy. Lean on the written warranty and real owner reports to judge how it will last.
Durability is backed by non-prorated warranties of 10 years for Silver, 12 years for Gold and 15 years for Black, with the official term printed on the law tag. The brand points to high-density foams, natural latex and reinforced coil systems with nano and micro coils as long-life components, and notes that softening plus body impressions of up to 1.5 inches are normal wear rather than defects.
Coverage depends on care: rotate the mattress 180 degrees every 1 to 2 months, use a supported foundation or slats no more than 3 inches apart, and add a waterproof protector, or a claim can be refused. Independent long-term durability testing, lifespan data or third-party lab results: Not published as of Sept 2026.

Chapter 06
Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees
Why this matters to you: Feel is hard to judge in a store or in a week. Know your exit plan and its cost before you pay.
There is no traditional sleep trial and no refund on a used mattress: once a mattress or box spring enters your home it cannot be returned, and the brand offers a comfort adjustment instead of returns for environmental reasons.
The free 100-Night Comfort Adjustment is one-time, available after you have slept on the bed at least 14 nights, adds or removes upholstery to make the mattress slightly firmer or softer, is refused on stained or soiled beds, and requires you to deliver the mattress to the Agawam workshop unless you pay a reduced non-negotiable round-trip transport fee, planning on about two nights without the mattress.
From night 101, a one-time Lifetime Comfort Adjustment runs for the length of the warranty for a fee. Non-mattress items can be returned within 7 days in new, undamaged original packaging, excluding adjustable beds, toppers and wood bedding.
A box spring or foundation height or size change within 7 days costs $49.95 handling plus normal re-delivery; special or odd sizes need a 50% deposit and are final; floor samples and close-outs are final; layaways need 20% down and lose 10% restocking if unpaid by day 60; returned checks cost $25.

Chapter 07
Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal
Why this matters to you: Delivery terms decide your first week with the bed. Confirm the date, setup and old-bed removal before you pay.
Every mattress is handcrafted to order with a typical turnaround of 1 to 2 weeks, then delivered and set up by Yankee's own truck and crew. Delivery and setup are free within 20 miles of any showroom for any order that includes a mattress or adjustable base, and $79.95 if the order includes neither. The 21-40 mile zone is a $99 flat rate, and beyond that, quoted case by case,.
Shipping outside the delivery zone is a $249 flat rate anywhere in the continental US, but only Westfield, Florence, Conway, Manchester, Westerly, Newport, Chatham, Revere, York and Brunswick can ship; Rockland, Nantucket and Fairhaven cannot. Old mattress or box spring removal and recycling costs $40 per piece and happens at delivery, with a call-ahead option if you want a heads-up when the truck is en route.
Typical wait: 1 to 2 weeks

Chapter 08

What do the warranties cover?
Why this matters to you: A warranty is only as good as its terms. Read the written terms and use a supported base, because the wrong frame can end coverage.
Non-prorated limited warranties that never lose value: 10 years on Silver, 12 years on Gold, 15 years on Black models, running from the original purchase date and printed on the white law tag. Covered on mattresses: body impressions deeper than 1.5 inches measured straight-edge away from stitching (up to 2 inches on pillow-top styles), coils or wires protruding through the fabric, and separation of the binding tape top or bottom.
Covered on foundations: broken or split wood frames, broken or loose metal supports, compression over 1.5 inches, non-frame-related squeaks or rattles, and fabric separation from top and sides. Excluded: normal impressions up to 1.5 inches, the fabric cover in any way, merchandise sold as-is or distressed, missing law tags, stained, soiled or burned beds, mattresses used with an unsupportive non-Yankee foundation or frame, and comfort preference.
Support rules apply, with one center leg for queen and two for king; the original receipt is required, coverage is not transferable, the company decides repair versus replacement, and the customer pays transport while the term is not extended.
Covered when the dip is deeper than 1.5 inches, measured with nobody on the bed.
Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.
Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or long level) across the dip, resting on the flat parts.
Measure from the edge down to the deepest point, then photograph the ruler for your claim.

Customer reviews and complaints
Why this matters to you: Star ratings depend on who posts and where. Read the low-star reviews for patterns, not just the average.
Yankee publishes named customer testimonials praising knowledgeable and no-pressure staff, made-to-order freshness, seamless delivery and the comfort-adjustment warranty, The company states it won Best Local Mattress Store in the Readers Raves and Readers Choice awards 2013-2025 and the Advocate Best of the Valley readers poll 2010-2025.
Independent aggregate star ratings or formal complaint records from Google, Yelp, BBB or Reddit: Not published as of Sept 2026. The most likely complaint trigger is structural rather than product quality: no returns or refunds on used mattresses, the need to bring the bed back to the Agawam workshop for a free comfort adjustment, and transport costs if you cannot.

What are the mattresses made of?
Why this matters to you: Layer names say little without numbers. Ask what is inside your exact model, layer by layer.
Handcrafted, single-sided hybrid mattresses made to order in Agawam, MA with US-sourced components. Silver: CertiPUR-US certified upholstery foams plus responsive pocketed coils and a quilted or stretch-knit cover. Gold: CertiPUR-US foams including gel memory foam and high-density firm foam, pocketed coil systems such as Quantum Edge per the FAQ, plus center and edge micro coils; Rockland instead uses a traditional rigid innerspring.
Black: FSC and Rainforest Alliance certified natural latex in Nantucket, Fairhaven and Brunswick, or high-density gel memory foam in York, over pocketed or combi coils with a nano coil layer and edge micro coils under a thick breathable cover.
Across the range: all foams are CertiPUR-US certified with no ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde or phthalates; no fiberglass and no spray-on chemicals, because a felt-like rayon barrier meets federal flammability standards; no pillow-tops and no sewn-on handles; allow up to a 1-inch size variance on handmade goods.

Where can you try and buy the mattresses?
Why this matters to you: Where you buy sets the price, the trial and who handles problems. Check the seller's terms, not just the brand's.
Try and buy in three company showrooms in Western Massachusetts: Agawam at 314 Springfield Street, (413) 786-0999; Northampton at 316 King Street, (413) 584-5858; Greenfield at 70 Mohawk Trail, (413) 325-8845. All are open Monday to Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm, with walk-ins welcome or a Calendly appointment. Buy online at yankeemattress.com, by phone, or in store; a mattress quiz helps narrow the collection.

Yankee Mattress vs. other mattress brands
Why this matters to you: A fair comparison needs the same facts for both beds. Line up price, trial and warranty for each one.
A small employee-owned factory-direct maker versus national brands and online bed-in-a-box names.
Strengths: made-to-order handcrafting in Agawam, MA, US-sourced materials, natural latex and CertiPUR-US foams, transparency with full material sample displays, no fiberglass or spray-on flame chemicals, free local delivery with setup, $40 old-bed removal and prices that skip retail markups; its beds also appear in MGM Springfield high-roller suites, Hotel UMass and D Hotel Suites and Spa.
Weaknesses: only three showrooms, all in Western Massachusetts, no nationwide retail network, no returns or sleep-trial refunds, $249 flat-rate shipping with three models that cannot ship, and no publicly available third-party rating. Choose Yankee for regional service and handcrafted hybrid value; choose a national or online brand if you need nationwide logistics, a money-back trial or adjustable-base compatibility across every model.
Competitor details reflect published prices and specs on the date shown. Mattress brands may update prices and trial terms over time.
Chapter 13
How we research and report
This page is an early draft built from our research sheet for Yankee Mattress. We read the brand's own pages and public listings, and we do not test mattresses ourselves. Fields marked "Not yet researched" are still being checked.
Reviews were built official-site-first in September 2026: the shop and mattress catalogue, all 13 model listings with per-size pricing and product tags, the store policies page, the delivery, shipping and removal page, the FAQ, the reviews page, the sale page, the who-we-are, local-commitment, beds-around-town and financing pages, plus the Black, Gold and Silver collection pages.
We then attempted third-party checks through Google, Yelp, BBB, Reddit, Trustpilot and review aggregators, no third-party ratings were found. Prices are current list prices from yankeemattress.com, and any detail that could not be verified on the official site or a credible source is marked Not published as of Sept 2026.
