Chapter 01

Is Wilderness RV Mattress the best mattress for you?

RV specialty, so it is aimed at RV owners, not typical home shoppers. Buy it if your bed is a non-standard RV size (RV queen 60x74, RV short king 72x74), you need radius corners, notches or hinges, or you sleep on a Murphy bed, bunk or over-cab berth. Skip it if you want to try a mattress in person, need white-glove delivery or old-mattress removal, or want a sleep trial on a custom size, since custom orders are excluded.

Amazon RV mattresses cost less, and no weight limits are published for heavy sleepers.

Chapter 02

Comfort and firmness: which mattress fits you

Why this matters to you: Feel names are the brand's words, not measurements. Use them to shortlist two or three beds, then let your body decide.

Side sleepers: Aspen, the medium-plush contouring foam. Hot sleepers: Montana Hybrid. Back sleepers and firm-feel fans: Canyon, medium-firm at about 7/10.

Full-timers and couples wanting bounce, airflow and the coolest sleep: Montana Hybrid in Plush (about 5-6/10, the most popular), Firm (about 8/10) or Soft Pillowtop (softest). Kids, guests, bunks and cab-over berths: Dream Bunk, medium-firm 8/10 and only 6 in tall.

Body type and weight-limit guidance is not published, so heavy sleepers have no published rating; sleeping-hot guidance says the coil Montana sleeps coolest while Aspen and Canyon sleep warmer.

Which Wilderness RV Mattress feel fits you?

Weight chart not yet researched

Weight and sleep position can change how a bed feels. We have not yet checked whether Wilderness RV Mattress publishes a fit chart by body weight, so use a trial, where one is offered, to test the bed the way you sleep at home.

Four alignment checkpoints against a neutral posture line Neck Shoulders Lower back Hips level with spine sink in, no pinch no gap below no sag Straight spine line
  1. Neck: on your side, your nose should line up with the middle of your chest, not tip up or down.
  2. Shoulders: your bottom shoulder should sink in. Tingling or a numb arm means the bed is too firm for you.
  3. Lower back: on your back, slide a flat hand under your waist. A big gap means too firm; no room at all can mean too soft.
  4. Hips: ask someone to look from the side. Hips lower than shoulders means the bed is too soft for you.
Figure 2.1: Four checks to run in a store, lying still in the position you sleep in most. The store test in chapter 11 says how long to lie on each bed.

Compare the mattresses

Why this matters to you: Models from one brand can differ in feel, height and layers. Match the feel label and height to how you sleep before you compare prices.

Wilderness RV Mattress lists 4 models. Feel names are the brand's labels.

Montana Hybrid: 10 in (11 in pillowtop) pocketed-coil plus foam with 961 individually wrapped coils and a cooling quilted Euro top, three firmness options (Firm about 8/10, Plush about 5-6/10 and the best seller, Soft Pillowtop), from $698, rated 4.7 from 5,393 reviews; the flagship for full-timers and frequent travelers.

Aspen: 10 in all-foam gel memory foam, 1 in quilted comfort top plus 2.5 in gel memory foam plus 6.5 in high-density base, medium-plush about 5/10, from $522, rated 4.8 from 617 reviews; contouring feel pitched at side sleepers and hot sleepers. Canyon: 8 in all-foam, 1 in quilted cover plus 2 in gel memory foam plus 5 in high-density base, medium-firm about 7/10, from $368, rated 4.7 from 390 reviews; firm and popular for Murphy beds.

Dream Bunk: 6 in slim all-foam, 1 in quilted cover plus 2 in gel memory foam plus 3 in high-density base, medium-firm about 8/10, from $300, rated 4.7 from 124 reviews; built for bunk beds, over-cab berths and tight clearance.

Chapter 05

How well do the mattresses hold up?

Why this matters to you: A mattress is a long buy. Lean on the written warranty and real owner reports to judge how it will last.

Durability data is limited. The brand points to high-density base foams, CertiPUR-US certified foams, the Montana 961-coil system and a 10-year non-prorated warranty that covers sagging over 1.5 in, which is a stronger term than most budget RV mattresses. Care rules: rotate 180 degrees every 3 to 6 months, never flip because the beds are one-sided, use a breathable protector, keep the law tag attached, and lift rather than drag or fold.

The warranty requires a stable level support. Independent long-term durability testing and foam density figures are not published, and one third-party RV YouTube review reported an unexpected issue after four months of use without stating details in its description.

Sleep trials, returns, exchanges and fees

Why this matters to you: Feel is hard to judge in a store or in a week. Know your exit plan and its cost before you pay.

100-night trial measured in calendar days from delivery, with a request to sleep on it at least 30 nights first. Returns require email approval before anything else, then a local charity donation of the mattress with proof of donation; no re-boxing or return shipping is needed, and the refund is full. Hawaii, Alaska and Canada orders refund the product price minus shipping.

Exchanges and trials are limited to one use per customer household and for new customers only. Cancellations are free before production, but cost a $49 stocking fee once in production or after shipping; shipped orders must be unopened in the original box within 30 days and the customer pays return shipping.

Custom-built sizes are excluded from the trial and cannot be returned or cancelled once in production, though a 50 percent off replacement is offered. The company is not responsible for wrong size or firmness choices, and about 1 in of variance is possible.

Delivery, setup and old-mattress removal

Why this matters to you: Delivery terms decide your first week with the bed. Confirm the date, setup and old-bed removal before you pay.

Free FedEx shipping to the 48 contiguous states with no minimum. Alaska, Hawaii and Canada pay a flat $149, described as carrier cost with no markup, and that shipping charge is non-refundable. Standard sizes ship in 7 to 10 business days and typically arrive 2 to 3 weeks after ordering; custom sizes add 3 to 5 production days and typically arrive 3 to 4 weeks out.

Transit is usually 3 to 5 business days. Mattresses arrive compressed and rolled in a 17x17x42 in box that fits an RV door, expand in 10 to 15 minutes with corners filling in over 24 hours, and can be slept on the same night. Delivery is to the door: no white-glove setup, no in-home installation and no old-mattress removal are published, and customers are responsible for correct addresses.

Typical wait: 7 to 10 business days

What do the warranties cover?

Why this matters to you: A warranty is only as good as its terms. Read the written terms and use a supported base, because the wrong frame can end coverage.

10-year limited, non-prorated warranty, so coverage on day one equals year nine, for the original purchaser in the US and Canada only. Covered: sagging or body impressions over 1.5 in on a suitable base, verifiable cover defects such as unraveling seams or faulty stitching, and zipper failure in normal use.

Excluded: normal foam softening, comfort or firmness preference changes, water, humidity or poor-storage damage, improper foundations, cuts, burns, tears, harsh or dry cleaning, neglect, unsanitary conditions and shipping costs unless agreed in writing. Requirements: keep the law tag attached and readable, use a stable level support, rotate 180 degrees every 3 to 6 months, use a breathable protector, spot clean only.

Claims go to returns@w-rv.com with order number, description and clear photos; reply target is 3 to 5 business days, remedy is repair or replacement at the company discretion, the customer pays shipping in and the company ships back. Pillows and toppers carry 3-year warranties, custom mattresses may have modified terms, and terms can change without notice.

Measuring a mattress dip with a straight edge and a ruler Straight edge across the bed Dip depth Mattress, nobody lying on it

Covered when the dip is deeper than 1.5 inches, measured with nobody on the bed.

  1. Strip the bed down to the mattress and wait a few hours so the top layers can recover.
  2. Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or long level) across the dip, resting on the flat parts.
  3. Measure from the edge down to the deepest point, then photograph the ruler for your claim.

Customer reviews and complaints

Why this matters to you: Star ratings depend on who posts and where. Read the low-star reviews for patterns, not just the average.

Brand-reported only, and not independently verifiable. The site shows 4.7 stars from 7,057 verified reviews with 91 percent 5-star, 5 percent 4-star, 2 percent 3-star, 1 percent 2-star and 1 percent 1-star; by model: Aspen 4.8 (617 reviews), Montana Hybrid 4.7 (5,393), Canyon 4.7 (390), Dream Bunk 4.7 (124). The site also shows inconsistent figures elsewhere, including 4.9 stars and 70,000+ customers.

No individual review text, reviewer names or dates are published on the reviews page, so complaint themes cannot be verified; the brand states it does not buy, incentivize or filter reviews and mentions sizing problems that were fixed generically. Third-party YouTube reviews found are mostly positive, including unboxing and multi-night reviews, with one critical title asking what happened after four months.

Trustpilot, BBB or other independent review profiles were not found as of Sept 2026.

What are the mattresses made of?

Why this matters to you: Layer names say little without numbers. Ask what is inside your exact model, layer by layer.

All foams are CertiPUR-US certified, hand-built to order in South Carolina; fiberglass content is not published. Aspen: 1 in quilted knit comfort top, 2.5 in gel memory foam, 6.5 in high-density base (10 in total). Canyon: 1 in quilted cover, 2 in gel memory foam, 5 in high-density poly base (8 in total).

Dream Bunk: 1 in quilted cover, 2 in gel memory foam, 3 in high-density poly base (6 in total). Montana Hybrid: quilted Euro top with cooling cover, fast-response memory foam, a proprietary transition foam, and 961 individually wrapped pocketed coils (10 in, or 11 in on the pillowtop).

Foam densities, ILD ratings and coil gauge are not published; the FAQ lists no formaldehyde, no ozone depleters and no heavy metals, with any faint foam scent airing out within a day.

Where can you try and buy the mattresses?

Why this matters to you: Where you buy sets the price, the trial and who handles problems. Check the seller's terms, not just the brand's.

Online only, direct-to-consumer at wildernessrvmattress.com. The company states it sells only online, and no showrooms, retail partners or dealer locations are listed, so there is no try-in-store option and no factory tour or in-person trial published; a wholesale partner program is open to RV dealerships, repair businesses and campgrounds but no partners are named.

A 3D Custom Builder lets buyers size to the whole inch and add radius corners, angled cuts, notches and horizontal or vertical hinges. RV bedding accessories are also sold. Contact: (888) 844-7701, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm CST, sales@wildernessrvmattress.com for orders and custom@w-rv.com for custom work; phone operations are in Florida and production is in South Carolina.

Chapter 12

Wilderness RV Mattress vs. other mattress brands

Why this matters to you: A fair comparison needs the same facts for both beds. Line up price, trial and warranty for each one.

RV specialty is the entire proposition: Wilderness builds only RV mattresses, in 13 standard sizes plus any dimension cut to the whole inch with corner cuts and hinges, which mainstream bed-in-a-box brands do not offer.

Its real competition is mass-market RV mattresses sold on Amazon and Walmart (Zinus, MLILY, Celestial Sleep, Dyonery, WanderRest and similar), which cover only a few RV sizes but cost less, plus other online RV-mattress specialists.

The brand is not sold on Amazon, in stores or through dealers, so it lacks in-store trials, white-glove delivery and old-mattress removal that big brands often include; its own selling points are exact fit, US hand-building, a 100-night trial on standard sizes and a 10-year non-prorated warranty. It claims construction comparable to $1,500 to $3,000 to $4,000 retail mattresses, and Alaska, Hawaii and Canada buyers pay $149 shipping.

More brand reviews to compare: White Dove Mattress, White Lotus Home, White Noise, Williams Co Mattress, Winndom, Wolf Mattress.

Competitor details reflect published prices and specs on the date shown. Mattress brands may update prices and trial terms over time.

How we research and report

This page is an early draft built from our research sheet for Wilderness RV Mattress. We read the brand's own pages and public listings, and we do not test mattresses ourselves. Fields marked "Not yet researched" are still being checked.

Desk research, no hands-on or lab testing. Sources: official product pages for all four mattresses, the warranty, return, shipping and dealer pages, the FAQ, the RV size guide, the reviews page aggregate data and third-party YouTube reviews, with Amazon checked for availability. Prices, trial, warranty and shipping terms reflect what the site published in September 2026 and exclude the 30 percent sale, which can end without notice.

We flag inconsistencies found on the site (founding year shown as 2017 and 2018, site ratings of 4.7 and 4.9, box sizes of 17x17x42 and 16x16x42, and cooling-cover wording on the Aspen), label owner ratings as brand-reported, and mark anything unpublished as not published rather than estimating it.
